why is youtube full of fucktards who leave comments like they know every single little shyte about the topic? Pfft! grow up already, if u guys were acting like this in my bar, we'd laugh at ya and then kick you out for the fun of it...bartending is an artform, people....
you all are retarded he is showing you the proper way so that you don't waste the alcohol you sound like a bunch of wannabes and if you dont wash your hands and are a bartender tell me what bar you work at so that i dont go there Good job on demonstrating the correct way to not pour alcohol on the bar
It all depends on the spout size, I'm sure there a wide variety of sizes, Personally i like a 2 second Ounce spout for pouring alcohol and a 1 second ounce spout for Mixes
This method of measuring works only on the type of spout that have the 1 ounce/4 seconds ratio. If that differs (and usually it's faster) the measurement will be off.
And that snifter glass test works only on one type of glass also.
What you should do is get a measure, do some test pours with your type of spout and go with that. There is no "out-of-the-box" solution that works all the time.
Free pour spouts have two holes in them. One for the alcohol, and another for airflow. By pluging the hole for airflow (like he's doing in this video) the alcohol will not pour. Its a great way to contol your pour without getting your fingers all over the alcohol. Not flaming you, just lettin ya know!
Yeah, and what the fuck do you think happens whenever he squeezes fruit or garnishes a drink? When you order a drink, do you ask the bartender to wear a glove? Didn't think so.
first start with an old liquor bottle filled with water and a pour spout (preferably the short metal ones, they are the most consistent). Instead of the number "one" you count "bubble" to allow for the time of the initial air bubble to escape, then continue on the rest of your counts at about the tempo of a European police siren. back off immediately to prevent overpour after you reach 4. check your pour in a one ounce shot glass.
Ha ha ha ha! I just got done signing up for a youtube account JUST so I could tell all you guys how Hilarious you are. I'm a server at Red Robin n just found out today that I'm going to be training to be their bartender or mixologist should I say. So thats how I found this video bc I got to thinking about it and realized I don't really know shit about counts or pours. Anyways the video was pretty useless BUT all the comments below were VERY entertaining.
for begginers...why just not use a measuring glass?..1 ounce equals 30ml,half an ounce 15ml..erm..what is so hard in that? After a while you know by seeing how much is an ounce,i am no bartender, newer was, never will be..i do this as a hobby, after 2 months i can almost precisely know when i pour 1 ounce or 1/2oz.I have no special tools, only bottles of drinks, ice, and syrups..yet i can almost perfectly copy all the great drinks
with a thumb in your ass you can copy great drinks.. hence the name of this video as it pertains to bartending not to pouring drinks for yourself and probably your anal loving boyfriend. now do us all a favor and shut the fuck up smart ass. meassuring glass = slow like a bitch (your mother)
If you were my bartender and i asked for a tom collins and you pulled out a measuring cup to measure everything, i'd leave a little tip..casue thats slow as fuck...watch teh video and learn. Every bartender does the count...1 oz = 4 counts, 1/2 ounce = 2 counts and so forth.
ever tested yourself accurately? with test tubes? 2 months? you are most certainly off by 1,2 or maybe even 3 mls most of the time. perfectly copy all the great drinks? 28mls isnt 30mls. 16mls isnt 15mls.
measuring glasses are slow and a pain in the ass.
sorry, but you shouldn't comment on this stuff if you don't take it seriously because you are out of your depth.
i would not call them test tubes it's a measuring glass of 200 ml.And yes i am off some times by 1-2 ml,but nontheless as i meantioned,i do this as hobby, not as serious bartendering, all others who think this is slow, well what can i say..i am glad that everyone in here is a professional bartender:) rofl..i can not believe i said that:))
Always use an exacto-pour to practice.and dont forget bottle angle....! if not use a pouring jiggers they come in different sizes. the snifter thing is just a bar just flair. count only works for some liquers what about Baileys? or what kind of pour spout..... missed alot kid
i thought a snifter was 2oz on its side? (8 count) i was taught 1/4 oz was 1 count.. and tested it in shot glasses and jiggers for count speed adjustment
but really it all depends on the spout size..
and i think hes referring to the air hole to cover up, not the actual spout where the liquor is coming out.
Before you complain maybe you should pay attention. He's not putting his finger over the spout, he's blocking the air hole that is 1/4 of an inch up the spout. Since the air can't get into the bottle to displace the alcohol it stops pouring.
in the first pour though I agree that he did pour over 1 ounce! and instead of measuring it in a brandy balloon why doesn't he just get an exacto pour?
the count for an ounce is totally up to the bartender pouring the drink as long as he hits it correctly. The Norm is to count "Bubble/1, 2 3 4" and you cut on four. It makes sense a "supersizethis" said "4" =1 ounce, "3" =3/4 ounce, "2" = 1/2 ounce and "bubble" or "1" = 1/4 ounce. How do you measure these measurements if you count to 3 for one ounce???
yea but it's a slower three. his four was pretty fast and took about as long as the slow 3 they teach at bartending school. Personally I like his count. 4 is an easier number to work with...you just count 2 to get a half ounce and 1 to get a quarter ounce
Granted, but when he says, "Three" He has actually poured an ounce by my count (Maybe a little less) By four its definatly too much. Thre is the standard count amoungst bar tenders so why change. If you wanna count to 4 thats ok but if I was teaching someone I would definatly teach them 3. Nowadays I don t usually count though, its just kinda natural. We done a test in my bar the other day though to see if I was still acurate and I was absoloutly spot on. nice
nice vid

At my school, we use four. Pour spouts have varying speeds, so three would only pour 3/4 oz.
It all depends on what you're working with. Point is, as long as an oz. is an oz. you're fine.
