Just watched this movie and wow. Amazing movie (9.5/10). Much credit goes to Joey Wang. The only point loss are the fake looking baby and the not so realistic snake form, but still pretty good considering it was made in the early 90s.

ps. The nude scene in the trailer is the only one in the movie and that was just some random woman giving birth.

I was just rewatching a clip from Hero (film I love, it's so beautiful) and someone said Maggie Chung was good in this too so I found a trailer... nice... And I thought Crouching Tiger started all that jumping around fantasy asian stuff (I guess that was the only one really advertised overseas anyway up until that point)

This movie was GOOD! I finally got to c it..and the muzik was slapping, kewl, lol. Surprise the heck out of me =) Wasnt as good as Painted Skin -aka- Wa pei (2008)tho, but than China's film making has progress much since 93 n has always been better at films than any other Asian country. And in this, they hooked Joey Wang n Maggie up the prettiest they've ever been in ANY film! To bad homely Vicki Zhao can't rate w/ or w/o makeup, n her acting is irritating!

It's really not scary. I watched this when I was 10 with no problems; no nightmares, and it was easy to understand. Well, easier if you know the Legend of the Green Snake; two snake demons assume human form come down their mountain to the mortal world. The elder of the two, White Snake, falls in love with a human man, but fails to tell him who she really is. Which causes problems when a monk becomes set on telling her husband the truth to save her from stealing his soul.

This movie is a classic from 1993! I love the costumes in this one with the layering and draping of sheer fabrics. The film definitely has Buddhist philosophical themes, morality tale about enlightenment. Basically lowly creatures practice the religion for thousands of years for the right to become human which Green and White have been endeavoring at but no matter what the monk thinks they are nothing but evil creatures and walk in sin among men. Or something like that.

I love those layered costume too. They are known as "Hanfu", which is the traditional ethnic costume of the Han Chinese, wore by Han Chinese people. There are many Chinese in China wearing this kind of ethnic costume too. Search for Hanfu in google or bing image if you like to see more of them in modern days... =)

I don't know about this. It looks like a lame sex film. Tsui Hark is pretty hit or miss and I think he mostly misses, especially lately. Double Team and Knock were brilliant though.

This is actually one of the few Hark creations that I enjoy. It is not a "lame sex film." If you know your wu xia and wire-fu, you know the elements involved. A legit DVD can very easily be obtained off the interwebs. I own a copy. R1 versions can be bought from eBay or Amazon at the lowest of a mere 10 dollars, new.
