  • My school bought like a few hundred of these some years ago and they are the crappest computers made for even their time. T.T Really didn't like them and they looked terrible. Dislike the school ones, i know they are getting better as time goes on though...

  • Lol

  • Gee billy thats a really OMFG VISTA EVERYBODY GET THE FUCK OUT

  • Comment removed

  • @iceshiel thinner part is true...

  • That's Just Rong.

  • Beautiful, I wish I had one.

  • I have 6 year old x41 with kingspec SSD running debian and it boots up in 6 seconds. Runs circles around any modern netbook. Sleek linux install is perfect pair for this laptop.

I prefer Thinkpad's functional looks too and would take X40 or X41anyday over any mac (which imo look plastic and ugly). So it's all in eye of the beholder.

  • 2 years later .. I am still using my x40 .. boosted with a 32GB kingspec ssd and a brand new battery. This machine is awesome.

  • Good work. The camera is a bit shaky but good work!

  • what happened to the new soul song??? you should have used that

  • thinkpads has the fugliest fuckin design ever!!! Dude Macs are the best in terms of design and performance

  • Vista SSSSSSSSUCKS bitch. Thinkpad sucks dick. And that song blew. 1.

  • comparing a mac to an ibm is just like, comparing barbie and rambo

  • thinkpad beats macbook any day!

  • cool laptop but i see one problem..... IT'S RUNNING VISTA!

  • @lewisvz

Vista's actually pretty good after they updated it and fixed the big stuff.

  • lol vista ultimate

  • XP awesome. vista not so much. linux no idea. OS X worst of them all(on my opinion).

  • er, have you used OS X or are you just going by what you have heard?

I think its: Snow leopard > Windows 7 > everything else

the thinkpad is the only thing keeping me tied to windows though :p

  • used one...i own one.

  • @wackoman28 oh ok, then I can kinda respect that... as long as you tried it and its not for you...

  • Pretty awesome except for the Vista part.

  • what song is it?

  • excellent laptop for sure ! I have got one :)

  • My favorite laptop I've ever owned. It's a durable little thing!

  • Linux ROX why... CUZ IT VIRUS FREE... i hate my XP

  • wtf it can have vista?!?!?!!?! my friend has the same 1 with win98 does it run good?

  • clever.

but i dont think anyone actually watched the video.

they all have their heads up their asses in the platform wars.

i use a thinkpad r40 and im having more problems every day

i might just say f*** it and use my xbox1 running xdsl. waaaay faster than this p-o-s

  • needs the original song

  • hey you stole my computer video!!!

  • Good Good ;)

  • yea yea ugly... it has to be beautiful... i mean who cares if it is faster or cheaper i mean it absolutely has to look gorgeous otherwise i wont do my homework!

  • i love macbooks.....not the air just the regular white standard one. i dropped it and it still works fine. not even scratched. STAUNCH lol

  • This guys right, I mean the thinkpad keeps getting compared to the air but it's not even in the same league! The macbook is still thinner than the thinkpad and it has: 2 USB Firewire which the thinkpad doesn't DVD RE-WR Can have more RAM Can have 250gb (500gb third party) Optical which the thinkpad doesn't have The CPU is nearly twice the speed of the thinkpad Don't get viruses Better OS (OS X has PROVEN better performance!) Looks nicer Better built... Oh, and it's cheaper! I win :-D
  • thinkpads are better built. everything you said is nonsence, there's no optical drive in macbook air.........nearly twice the speed of a thinkpad...better OS........Oh i did not notice you were being sarcastic, sorry. i bet when you droped the macbook it wasn't more than a couple of inches.

  • I said macbook. NOT macbook air. Mine fell 6 foot while switched 'on' and it didn't even crash or restart or nowt, just worked. Macbook air 2.3ghz C2D, Lenovo 1.2 C2D (of the top of my head, can't remember exact).

OS X staggers vista and XP, it whips them all over.

  • Macbook air has 1.8ghz C2D, and, OS X 10.5 is as buggy as the vista

  • MacBooks are 2.4 C2D, I was comparing the MacBook, NOT the Air.

Leopard is not buggy, my MacBook hasn't crashed a single time since I bought it 9 months ago, where as EVERYONE I know who has Vista has had some kind of problem with it! And to top it off Leopard only uses 300mb Wired RAM, where as Vista uses over 1gb!! Have you even used Leopard?

  • Which thinkpad are you comparing the "thickness" to? X300 has 0.92" max. thickness. Way thinner than your macbook at 1.08". And by the way..OS X has virus. NOTHING is virus free.

  • The Lenovo is .92 all around, you said max. as though it gets thinner, it doesn't. The Macbook air is .16 inches at it's thinnest point, in what way can the Lenovo, a 'super-thin' computer be compared to another computer's thinness when it is nearly 6 times the size!? The macbook (not air) is less than 1/17th thicker than the Lenovo and you act like that makes it invalid? Talk about double standards o_O

I have had no firewall on OS X for 9 months and I haven't had a single virus yet.

  • 1. I never said the x300 is "super-thin", don't put words in my mouth.

    2. I thought your original argument was lenovo thinkpads were thicker than your macbook, quote "The macbook is still thinner than the thinkpad". NOW, why do you start comparing the lenovo to the macbook AIR?

    3. Back to the comparison between x300 and macbook (NOT AIR). Is 0.92" greater or less than your 1.08" macbook? simple math, greater or less? And it does make your statement invalid, If its thicker, its not thinner.

  • I've seen an X300 and a macbook next to each other and I can guarantee that the macbook is thinner.

Lenovo have probably lied about the thickness in order to make people believe that it can be compared to the air instead of the macbook.

Fact is though, even if you presume that the the Lenovo is thinner, it is still closer to the macbook in thinness than it is to the macbook air.

  • Thinkpads are better built than macbooks or macbook air...

    It was proven dozen times.

The only thing that mac have is excellent OS (windows is s...), and design.

But, thinkpad users don't buy thinkpads for design, and we know that no laptop in the world is better built than thinkpads.

    Nobody's perfect.

  • Hmm, i've used VAIO and Thinkpad, and I use a Macbook now. SONY's quality is shit. I've never heard one VAIO owner say SONY's quality is good. Thinkpad has amazing build quality. With regards to your question "since when have IBM been known for quality," actually IBM has pretty much always been known for its quality. One of the very reasons why I bought a Thinkpad is because my computer friends recommended it. But yeah, I love my Macbook now :-P

  • Bro, see the video "A LENOVO NOTEBOOK CRASH TEST BY ME" and then try to do the same w/ any Macbook (even the new Aluminum one), believe me ThinkPads have a build quality!

I am not a fan of any brand, I am open for the best, and I have played w/ different brands, but no one comes close to the ThinkPad. I was following closely the Aluminum Macbook (I played w/ one). Very well build body, but the screen and the keyboard have still a long way to go, especially the keyboard feels very cheep.

  • I dropped my macbook accidently from a similar height while it was on sleep mode, and it didn't do a thing to it either. Maybe I was lucky, but they're still amazingly well built. I like the feel of the keyboard although I think the macbook would have suited better from white keys on the aluminium background than black, they don't look right as black.

  • IBM created D-RAM, the Hard drive, wav files, PCI slots, VGA, PS/2, all the processors in the wii, XBOX 360 and PS3... They were the first to put CD drives in laptops as well.. they pioneered personal computing.

Tell me how IBM is bad in quality?

Apple used IBM's power PC processor for a long time (a little joke on IBM's part, they wanted to give Apple a crippled CPU for their machines) - this can be attributed to Apple stealing IBM's "THINK" motto into "think different"

  • So? What's you're point? Mercedes-Benz invented windscreen wipers, airbags, sat-nav, the revometer, AND the car (Benz motorwagen was out 25 years or so before the Model T) - and yet, Mercedes were recently found to be the world's 7th worst manufacturers based on build quality.

The PS3 doesn't use IBM chips, it was a joint IBM/Sony venture, and the majority of the chip was Sony's creation. IBM just manufacture it.

    Dan

  • You're so wrong. ThinkPads have great build quality, and when you actually type on one and use it, you will see how what everyone's talking about.

I've met many a Mac user who said that if ThinkPads came with OS X, they'd buy them in a heartbeat.

The fact that you mentioned Sony shows that you know nothing about build quality in laptops, but judge build quality by looks.

  • And how is Sony bad build quality? As a rule of thumb, anything Japanese is well built, it's just a fact. My guitar is Japanese, it's light, nible, and yet a lorry running over it wouldn't stop it working. I had an American tele before it, and I'll never go back, the Japanese one was cheaper too :-p. It's just how things are, Britain invents everything, America claims THEY invented it, and Japan nicks all the ideas and makes them 10 times better, and makes them so well they'll never break.

  • Lenovo ThinkPads are designed by engineers in Yamato, Japan, just an FYI.

Sony Vaios are really not that great. I'd seriously take a Dell over one.

  • Doesn't matter where it's designed, it's where it's 'built' that determines 'build' quality :-p

  • Both are built in China, brosef.

  • Sony products are built in Yokohama(よこはま), ニほん, Japan.

  • Sony Vaios are made in China, dude. Most laptops are.

  • Maybe they're assembled in China, but the individual parts are Japanese, just trust me on that one ;-),

    Dan

  • By your line of thinking, I have a Samsung phone and it can take a beating. I guess my next car is a Kia!

The fact that you asked a question like "since when is IBM known for quality" shows that you aren't terribly experienced with business hardware.

Oh and by the way your Vaio isn't made with any proprietary components besides the chassis and motherboard. Display's Korean, hard drive is made in China, optical drive is made in China, battery, keyboard, so on and so forth... :)

  • Samsung and KIA are both South Korean, not Japanese...

I don't have a Vaio, I have a MacBook, someone else brought Sony into conversation and I just ran with it cos I lived in Toky for a while, and I've been to one of the Sony plants in Yokohama. コにちわ,わたし は だにえる です。ドぞ よろしく!! ;-).

Where is the IBM's parts made by the way?

    Dan

  • 1) dude, that's the point. :)

    2) MacBooks are far better than Sony Vaio garbage. The Vaios may have been made in Japan before, but they're made in China now.

    3) IBM doesn't make PCs anymore, that's Lenovo. The laptops are assembled in Shenzhen, China, their "Think" lines (thinkpad, thinkstation, etc.) are designed in Yamato, Japan, and the company's Chinese headquarters are in Beijing while their US headquarters are in Morrisville, NC.

  • @dan892k7: Hecho en Mexico. At least that's what it usually says on the bottom. lol

  • On Thinkpads or macs?

  • @dan892k7: ThinkPads.

  • Thinkpads are better built than macbooks or macbook air...

    It was proven dozen times.

The only thing that mac have is excellent OS (windows is s...), and design.

    Nobody's perfect.

  • the OS fucking sucks.

  • and thats why i run linux on my thinkpad XD

  • @carpechris

    soo true..

i have a thinkpad and i've been useing it for 7 years. my friend got a new laptop and her broke in a year..

  • @carpechris (thinkpad users don't buy thinkpads for design)

Thinkpads has the best design. all other laptops are ugly

  • @carpechris Exactly, I own a Mac, only because I don't want to hassle with Hackintosh...

  • @carpechris and now with Windows 7 we are rocking both the hardware and the OS! :)

  • @carpechris I am an industrial design student and I bought my thinkpad because of the design.

  • I must say it might be better then the air and macbook (not pro) caus eits not as light as hell so it wont fly away, and it prlly has more memory space :D nothing can beat the pro tho

  • I LOVE thinkpad... my nice 7 year old one is plodding along nicley :D I am going need a newer one soonn though. They are a lot better built than macs

  • The Thinkpads seem to be very good notebooks.

Classical, functional, robust - instead of excessive glossiness..

And I think Ubuntu fits very well on them :)

  • x40 is lovely. i have one and its a true classic ibm.

  • lol i got one too ,and yes its thin, ill love it

  • They're not as thin as macbook air, but damn they are WAY better, if i wanted a thin laptop (with FUNCTIONALITY ,unlike macbook air shit)id get that!

  • I Agree on that

Mac is designed to be aesthetic

IBM is designed to be functional

  • wow that is really thin!!!!

  • Lol nice

  • Haha nice

  • Its... so thin...

  • Nice! I always thought ThinkPads were the best laptops around. Sure, they might be thicker than the holy macbook air, but they are extremely rugged, versatile and don't sacrifice anything for design, such as all but one USB port ^^ I almost got me an X61, but went with the R61 instead, as it was cheaper and had an optical drive.

  • OMG, this video is so cool. The director was inspired by the ridiculous Macbook Air which has 1 USB port...like, OMGWTFBBQ??
