  • The drummer should shut the fuck up on ride

  • simply incredible!

  • Chi- town and Philly have a ton of funky bassist

  • can someone send me a link to where i can get the music for this on bass ?

  • he must taste really salty after all that sweat.

  • Which concert is it? I've been surching al long time but i can't find this version of the song (It's wrinkle, isn't it?)..

please help me find out which live session it was

  • ok, it really gets into it at 2:30 in the video... but man, is this guy sweating or what!!! not sure where he was, but must have been 100F!!!

  • hey everyone!

what is the name of the whole gig?

  • @kakahich i think it was "rockpalast" (germany)

  • Great chops. Finger stuff sounds a bit like Jamaaladeen Tacuma's style. I would love to see a slap battle between him and Mark King

  • super great :D

  • very great :)

  • great :)

  • great bass player

  • I still prefer Benny Rietveld any time ...that guy can play whatever, and he also played with Miles Davis undtil his death, so ...

  • thank you!

  • Please everyone, stop judging and comparing Richard and Marcus. It's all bullshit. They are both excellent bassplayers. You like them or you don't. How can you judge if one is better than the other anyway? Do you have some sort of scales to do that? If so where did you buy these?

  • @klustjerauw You are so right. People are fed this concept of always compairing by the media. I knew Richard when he played the clubs in Chicago. He's a great bass player and super nice guy.

  • token ur black u kno jow to play bass

  • DString, Marcus Miller plays it safe. Richard Patterson is far more complex and has a natural depth of feeling which translates to an audience as a deeper emotional experience. He is nothing like Marcus Miller. He draws from a broader spectrum of emotions and to me, that makes him far more interesting.

  • @thedodee Marcus is a multiple Grammy award winning legend on the bass and in contemporary jazz which he hepled take to the next level, he been a pro for over 30 years appeared on over 500 albums, Marcus is constantly reinventing himself and grooves in the pocket like no other and always being emulated by so many bass players from amateurs to pros, Marcus played with Miles Davis band in the early 80’s, Marcus played bass and wrote 90% of the songs on Miles albums Tutu(won a grammy) and Amanda,

  • Hey DString, where do you get your information about the tone being altered?? Wanna hear the original? And for your information, none of the greats hired him because he played fast. Or maybe you think Miles, David, and Stevie were that stupid.

  • @thedodee I was talking about richard playing on norman browns 1992 album, and his tone sounds like "the original" marcus millers signature tone and thats not a standard tone you have to modify your bass to sound like that, Im well aware of the people that richard has played with, and I said what I said responding to a comment someone said about richard being better than marcus miller and richard is a great bass player but no marcus miller

  • Big chuckle that someone thinks he's 'better' than Marcus Miller. He's good...but I don't think he's 'better'... Marcus rules...

  • WOW!

  • he keeps quoting "life in the fast lane"

  • @unclejunglebass

    lol yeah he does

  • Richard is a product of the chicago music scene...Southside! Played with Insight.

I have the pleasure of having him play bass on one of my recordings...2 takes that was it. Richie can play in the pocket as good as MM. YOU HAVE TO HAVE A GREAT DRUMMER THO'. Daryl jones, Larry Kimpel, Bill Dickens, Jim Cammack, Larry Gray, Chuck Webb, Michael Manson,Tony Mhoon are some of the other super bass players from chi-town all from the southside except Billy Dickens.(Evanston)

  • extra funky bass lines in the 70`s fashion...excellent

  • he is genius marcus is out//////

  • The best ever!

  • Its not the baddest i agree , but i just love this guys way of pinning down a song.

Norman brown - stormin , that unmistakeable stingray sound and loads of slap n pull.

    Great guy im sure!

  • @carbonbodyworker actually that tone was altered to sound like marcus millers signature tone

  • Just a dirty solo, not the worst...even Patitucci has done worst things...hes funny wen not inpired :P

  • I'm sorry, but that is not the baddest bass solo in the world.

  • WOW that was sweet!!!!!

  • Brandon, I will be writing the same remark about you!!!! I see you playing like this in the very near future. You just about there right now!!! You are an awesome bassist. Love your style. It's sweet!!!! The baddest little bassist this side of heaven. HANDS DOWN!!!! NO DOUBT!!!!

  • Wow! This is amazing!

  • met him last week in Wis,very very and very helpful with bass pointers for me,and and funky real funky bass player

  • better than marcus

  • @Anemonicus you are out of your mind if you think richard patterson is better than Marcus Miller just because you play a fast so does not make you better than Marcus, Ive heard alot of Richard Pattersons sideman work and he is a great bassist but not on Marcus Miller's level
