I've seen this done in the GSL. It's just as fast as the 3-3 split if done perfectly, though it's more micro intensive so most people use the 3-3 split.

to be honest it doesn't really make a difference and who really cares if you are behind by ~15 minerals in the beginning. it's just for pros to show off their skills at even a mundane level.

the only reason pros split is to work on their apm and all if you are not an apm whore grabbing all /sending to 1 patch is all you have to worry about . Hell clicking on you 1st worker to build is more important than the split so select all /send 1 node click on command stucture and build asap

it's called the f1 split. you don't actually click on each worker. you click f1 , right click , f1 right click, f1 right click, f1 right click. what it does is you select an idle worker.. it's better than the 3/3 split with practice.

I do this as well, and it's very easy once you've done it afew times. Press F1 to select idle worker, then right click a mineral patch. Repeat x6. Once you've done it afew times you get really fast and it looks gosu in replays.

I've seen masters split 1 by 1 extremely fast all going to different mineral patches which looks like a very effective way to start mining if you can manage it... I feel like showing it on normal speed isn't doing anything more than just making sure you can make fun of someone :/
