  • COOL AND EASY THANKS

  • How did I get here from tf2? Worth watching though.

  • I came for the rice.

  • @xInstinctful But this is a garlic shrimp recipe.

  • @ChefTips I like rice. The picture had nice rice. I came for the nice white rice.

  • @xInstinctful Aha. It's just steamed sticky rice, prepared as directed on the bag. The bits of cooked garlic make it very tasty. :)

  • I really like your videos. Good explantions. Easy to make. Great results.

  • @AyashiFX55

    Thank you!

  • so you just add in the 1/8 cup of white wine and that's it? It is ready to be serve? You don't need to cook it any longer after the added wine?

  • @gureifox

I let the wine cook off for a few minutes, then it is ready. You can add more if you like, it will just take a bit longer to cook off. It's really for a quick deglaze on the pan.

    Cheers!

  • @ChefTips ok, thank you for clarity sake ;)

  • It looks really good .. :)

  • Wow I love this recipe. Thanks for sharing :).I have a question though. Is there any substitute of wine?

  • @SadiaIffate

You can leave out the wine, or add some lemon juice. It's really just a splash to help deglaze the pan a bit.

  • i happen to have shrimp in the freezer but no garlic, only garlic salt, and its snowing and icy outside so not going to market...grrrrrrrrr

  • @Pauly69s Darn. Hopefully you can make this soon. :)

  • Do you peel the shrimp after you cook it or before? I only had shrimp one time and it was years ago and really want to try this recipe.

  • @5692873 Peel after it is cooked.

  • hm,,, interesting but I dont understand why you use flour.. I never put flour on my Shrimps before seems odd

  • @haloneya It allows the sauce to stick to the shrimp.

  • so i just had this today at Giovannis (north shore) and I'm still craving for some more!!! So I figured I'll try to make my own....mouth's watering

  • @TheIslandcoconut

Do it. You'll be happily surprised!

  • Soooooooo much garlic! YEAHA!! YOU ARE MY MAN :-)

  • @luticia

    Thanks!

  • 3 minutes each side is too much, maybe 2-3 min total. Otherwise it was perfect, tastes exactly like the shrimp from North Shore, thank you.

  • I've rewatched this video every year when I make this dish for Christmas dinner. Great job....

  • @luujeff

Thank you for them comment. Merry Christmas.

  • That looks sooooo fricken good!!!!!

  • @ThePatuna You have to take it off the heat right when it turns light golden brown.

  • gracias por la receta, la probaré!

  • thanks for the recipe, i will try it

  • @nonniesview Hope you enjoy it!

  • prawns...

  • I made this but skipped the clarified butter and replaced with just some butter. My friend's head blew up and now I'm wanted for murder. Delicious murder.

  • Made this last night...was GREAT!!

  • @Evilkitty64 Glad you enjoyed it!

  • Im born and raised in Laie on the north shore and graduated from Kahuku high where giovani's is located so I know all about GARLIC SHRIMP and you did it exactly the way we do it in hawaii only thing you missin is mac salad!...I seen some comment's where people wrote about the shells cutting their lip if you cant pell a shrimp good dont eat it .....but you did it HAWAIIAN style my brada so I DO RECOMMEND THIS RECIPE TO ANYONE WHO LOVE'S SHRIMP!!!!

  • @hayangel21

Thanks so much for taking the time to leave this comment. I am not sure exactly how Geovanni's does their shrimp, but I feel I came pretty pretty close with this recipe.

    Thanks again!

  • Looks delicious!

  • Beside using wine, can we use other ingredients that is non alcoholic?

  • @UziyashiNarzashdoen Just leave out the wine if you like.

  • @UziyashiNarzashdoen use 7up or sprite. it would be sweeter but it will compliment with the shrimp.

  • @UziyashiNarzashdoen can I use ingredients that are more alcoholic?

  • @ cheftips um i know this is dumb but since you cooked it in the shell can you eat the shrimp whole or no shell ?

  • @fangx17

Hello. You peel the shell before eating.

  • @fangx17 You can eat it whole sometimes the shell can get stuck in your teeth though

  • @irocallday24

    I don't recommend doing this....

  • @ChefTips Is it bad? We eat them like that in Japan.

  • @irocallday24

I don't know if it's bad, it's just not a common practice to eat the shells of a shell fish here in the U.S.

It seems like you can cut your mouth. Maybe I am wrong. I like to use the left over shells to make a soup stock.

  • @ChefTips Oh I see, well it has never happened to me but you could probably be right and it's better to be safe then sorry :).

  • @irocallday24

Is there a way to soften the shells so that they can be chewed easier. How do you prepare them Japan?

    Thank you!

  • @ChefTips Well they will sofen if you put them in a soup. I only eat them with the shells when they are fried.

  • Oh my goodness this looks so YUMMY!!! I will be making this for dinner!! Thanks!!

  • You are *hot!* :)

  • Can't wait to make this!!!! Yum!!!

  • did you take out the weins from the shrimps back? :O

  • @aaandreah

I did not. They veins were already removed.

  • is it ok if the white wine isn't included? what can i substitute with it?

  • @darkgirl3422

You can leave out the wine and it will still be great! =]

  • wow,it looks so gooood!

    from japan.

  • @tonytheabc Thanks! Hope you like it!

  • i just got here cos of the Shrimpin' Business according to Pvt.Bubba of "Forrest Gump"

  • you look and act like tom hanks man ..

  • @themahdz Really?

  • @ChefTips yeah .. anyways cool recipe , i made that last week for my girlfriend she loved it .. thanks man keep it up , im a food lover

  • I think I can smell the garlic cooking. Yummy!

  • @CookingwithSugarTV Thanks!

  • It does not matter what style you cook the shrimp it will not loose its high cholesterol, OK to eat a little and eat other fish with it to keep it healthy so you will make it back from Hawaii.

  • @aoknponte Everything in moderation!

  • im hungry now .... that looks so yummy

  • Oh geez that looks so good. Can almost picture it in person, with those toasted bits of garlic on the shrimp, and a golden liquid butter dripping onto the plate and mixing with the rice a little...

  • Great video, simple but tasty

  • @dragonbut Thank you!

  • mouth gets watery yeah open the fridge and make a sandwich...sigh

  • BTW this looks amazing! Hope it's just like Giovanni's :)

  • @Devonnparkerr It is. I don't think you'll notice any difference! :)

  • using only flour and not egg or milk ISN'T to create a coat. It's to thicken the butter. If you've gone to the shrimp truck in Kahuku you'll know what I'm talking about.

  • sucks i cant find shrimp like that around here\

  • yummy!

  • I wish I could get this excited about food, or rather, cooking food. Like this guy.

  • This is one thing I'll miss when I leave my Island home:( The smell is sooooooooooo ... ono;)

  • i'm so hungry

  • hi mr .cheftips...any sauce recipe for the shrimps please...I tried some or your recipes..its perfect

  • @Ahwen90a Thanks! I just posted a new one called grilled marinated shrimp.

  • @ChefTips thanks.....

  • PLEASE check out my video. best shrimp recipe out there

  • "oh man, all that orama takes me back the north shore" hahahahahahahahahahahhaahahha thats great

  • This was amazing

  • Tip, take the shell off, its the same taste less work when actually eating it.

  • @supertrex2 Yes, you should take off the shell before you eat it.

  • I made it and everyone was asking for more, thank u

  • @BEATRIZ1733 Awesome. Thanks!!

  • I just made this & it was DELICIOUS. Only changes I made is I replaced the Paprika/Cayenne with Homemade Cajun seasoning.(Cajun Spice Mix on allrecipes) Also to anyone wanting to make this, DO NOT waste all of this flour. An entire cup of flour for 10 shrimp? Jesus, what a waste! I used 1/4th a cup of flour (plus a proportional 1/2 TB of seasoning) for 5 shrimp & I STILL had about half of it left after dredging the shrimp in it. Fast, Easy, and delicious lunch for one. Thanks Jason!

  • yum yum

  • I ate GARLIC SCAMPI SHRIMPS up at Kahuku 2 weeks ago and going again!!!

  • @07navyblue Mmmmmmm.

  • from alton brown on food stars ALL SALT IS SEA SALT

  • how hot was your pan when you put the shrimp in? low, med, high?

  • @ugk4ever

Hi. I usually start with a med/high heat.

  • @ChefTips thanks

  • @ChefTips i noticed the shrimp were really floured up. was tht intentionally or did you just not wanna do the milk then put them in the flour again for tht full flour coat

  • @Dano78229

Good question. There is no need for a full coat for this recipe.

  • Omg this looks so delicious ! I wish I can make this but my husband is allergic to shellfish :( can't remember the last time I had shrimp ..

  • Num-Num_Num!

  • im hungryyyy, i wanna taste this

  • Wow looks good!

  • @sensation92024 It's delicious! One of our favorites!

  • is there anything that i can use other than the wine?

  • @aqr20197 Leave it out.

  • Now that I think about it, this was actually the first youtube recipe I made.

  • One of the best cooking video on youtube.. fast, easy and delicious!!!!

  • @lidhre Thank you!

  • im hungry

  • Why do need the flour?

  • @Svedesina69

Hello. The flour gives the shrimp a nice flavorful coating.

  • Jason, you need to move into my house lol

  • but my religion says I can never use wine any other thing to use instead of wine?

  • @princeicio

You can leave out the wine.

  • @princeicio: you could use just plain water or chicken/vegetable stock.

To replace 1/2 cup white wine use:

1/2 cup broth + 1 teaspoon wine vinegar

1/2 cup broth + 1 teaspoon lemon juice

  • Thanks

  • Great recipe! Thanks Chef Jason! :D

  • اوه لالا

  • Poor shrimps, they don't deserve such sad ending.

  • @NasimATBird

Every ending is a sad ending.....

  • @ChefTips Unless its a happy ending

  • How do you take out the poop shoots w/o peeling the shell?

  • @curletz88

    Ha ha! Good question!

The vein has been removed by cutting down the back through the shell.

  • @ChefTips thanks..I'm preparing this recipe now for lunch..*starving

  • How do you get to Kahuku from Honolulu without car? Thanks, I will try this recipe. But where's the recipe for the sticky rice?

  • @nemoryer

I would check with the bus system.

For the rice recipe I use Calrose rice. The cooking directions for the rice are on the bag/box.

    Cheers!

  • @ChefTips hello!..uhm..do you have a shrimp recipe that is good for brestfeeding moms?. thanks :)

  • do u cook with the shells on or no

  • My god man! i made this bout a year ago. been addicted ever since!

  • @itsRyanLiew

Thank you so much for you testimony!

    Cheers!

    Jason

  • do you peel the shrimp before you bread them?

  • @drinkandski

Hello. No, I cook them with the shell on. It adds flavor and keeps the shrimp moist.

    Cheers!

  • yummmmmmmmm

  • the prawns are so overcooked. to get a better result, cook the garlic on low heat but for a longer duration before putting the prawns in.the prawns should never be overcooked, a good indicator would be when the prawns almost make a U shape.

  • is there a substitute for the wine? Thanks

  • @niteaway You can leave it out.

  • ugh...this made me hungry...I soo love shrimp! :D

  • @forrj131 Thanks!

  • @ChefTips welcome! your vids are so great! umm...can I just ask if I can cook the shrimp with the heads?, I love eating crunchy shrimp heads...hehe thanks

  • @forrj131 You sure can!

  • @ChefTips Ah! I see! Thank you! :D

  • yo lo ise y se acabo alparecer q do muy bueno

  • Is there any thing we can use instead of wine

  • @londonfella Just leave it out...

  • awhhhhhhhhh~ this is nice!

  • Mahalo for putting this up. I've tried more than once to make this but, knew I was missing something in there...now I know what, the wine! Thanks a million!

  • why dont you remove the shell?

  • @Zoorah

The shell adds flavor while cooking. And helps keep the shrimp moist.

  • u-15 shrimp?! ...sound like an airplane :))

  • @kamikazeOS

Ha ha! I know. What it means is that there 15 shrimp per pound in a bag. This makes for a very large shrimp.

  • @ChefTips aaaah, got it ...thanks :D

  • @kamikazeOS 16/20 SHRIMP SIZE

  • @pkrska I think you eat the shell

  • @videofreakmanic123

Hello. No, you do not eat the shell.

    Cheers!

  • @ChefTips i do....

  • To people asking about not adding the wine because you can't drink alcohol - the actual alcohol completely dissipates when you cook with wine/any kind of alcohol. That includes wine, brandy, cointreau - anything. Babies, children, and cirrhotics can eat food cooked in booze, provided it boils. It's only for the flavour - so don't deprive yourself - I promise you'll still go to heaven.

  • Hey jason, if i use regular shrimp from my grocery store what will i have to do differently?

  • @mayflowerstein

Hello. If they are smaller, there will be less cooking time. I like the big shrimp for this recipe. It provides a nice presentation.

  • I prefer this without the shell on. If you have the shell on, all that garlic flavor is stuck on the shell. Wasted.
