Am I crazy if I say that the greatest countertenor ever is Paul Esswood? It's just my opinion. I'm not an expert, but I've listen to recordings of Handel's music for 30 years or so.
Philippe my darling. You look so hot with your gay manners. I love you so much. I cry every time I hear your sensual, orgasmic singing. It drives me crazy as a man. You are so handsome with your full sexy lips and feminine soft hands, slender shape. True French diva. Brava.I want to make love with you and marry you. Are you interested?
You are such a pervert! It is a shame that persons like you have the freedom to post such perverted comments. Do you understand the term purity? BIG SHAME ON YOU!
@happybecchinoo Darling you are so rude. I love him and wanna make love with him. I wanna live with him. His sensual singing drives me crazy. Can you help me meet him?
à votre avis POURQUOI LA VOIX DE PHILIPPE A UN SON COMPLÈTEMENT DIFFÉRENT à celles des autres contretenors?? Moins affectée, beaucoup plus naturel, plus puérile... Infiniment plus douce et adorable????
1. Countertenor training methods are more advanced today than in previous times. 2. The particular voice teachers & conductors for Jaroussky have influenced his sound. 3. Every person has unique physical traits. I believe that these play a larger role with Jaroussky than some other singers. He has good vocal agility, which shows especially with Vivaldi arias. His voice is light, however. For emotional, dark, "pathetic" arias such as Alto Giove, I would prefer a voice like Paul Esswood.
@erikamabra couldn't agree more. It really is just the old addage "horses for courses"....however good or great the voice the choice of repertoir is paramount!
I studied with a countertenor in my late teens, Robert Jones, so have always loved this voice ... BUT Philippe is the most wonderful countertenor voice I have EVER heard. Thank you so much for sharing this.
It has the listenable-ness of any pop song, but is also imbued with tonal beauty and dramatic depth by virtue of the operatic context and Jaroussky's interpretation.
Wow, I heard Jaroussky for the first time a few weeks ago. I do love his way of doing delicate things delicately, not in the cannon-hurrah way of many others. I've always loved to play baroque (how ever one spells that monster), but his took my interest one step further. Already recruited a few friends for stroll around the baroque musicscape (a swear word really, but ah, so describing) next spring...
Bis from B'Rock & Philippe Jaroussky, at Early Music Festival, in Sint-Walburgakerk (Brugge), August 4, 2006. Concert "I Castrati di Venezia: Bernacchi versus Nicolini" (program with arias of Scarlatti and Händel).
Breathtaking. Thank you.

Paul Esswood's voice isn't "thick", or "dark" either.

Aria di Arsace:
Ch'io parta? sì, crudele,
parto, ma senza cor;
che nel mio sen fedele,
nel luogo ov'era il cor,
è il mio dolor.
