This has a great message. Imagine if every parent saw their child's innocent face in their ashtray before they started to smoke, it would perhaps make them think twice before lighting their cigarette. Good job! I'm going to subscribe now :)
Great art, great message. It is shocking, that there isn't a law, protecting children, from second hand smoke, that their parents subject them too. It causes asthma, so it is obviously physically abusive, to the innocent child. Parents can easily go outside, if they cant quit- this is what we do
Thanks man, as i've said further down the comments page. this is not a preacher video, just thought it needed to be made. As the Smoking Ban in the Uk is tomorrow. Thanks for the support :)
We have dug ourselves into a terrible hole!! A pack of cigarettes cost about .32 to make and distribute - the rest of the sale price is taxes -- parts of which funds our healthcare system (local and regional). If everybody quit smoking today - our health care system would collapse! The more people that stop smoking -- the less money the healthcare system gets -- so cost as passed to the health care purchaser. If you have a solution, tell Washington DC - they only have excuses!
Omg lol! That was great! I love how your choices of materials reflect on the work symbolically (ie - the lego being symbolic of playing with children's lifes). I am apologising in advance if I have interpreted that wrongly but that's the great thing about art in how individuals perceive it differently.
So yeah, the symbolism aspect of it just adds so much depth and really enhances your point. A very clever and unique idea. Congrats (you've made me jealous) lol.
Thanks man, yeah sometimes Art is very vivid to understand and sometimes what you create isn't always the best outcome. but it was an expression of self so therefore i guess i can't be self critical lol
I smoke, and while I feel it should be a persons right to choose whether or not they want to smoke, I absolutely believe children should not be subjected to it. That's why I smoke outside of the house and never around any of my nieces or nephews.
Yeah man, this was never going to be a judgemental approach. just the belief that everyone should have a choice in the matter. children should not be inflicted with passive smoke in my opinion
Cool twist. I like the art but I fail to see what it has to do with second hand smoking around children except for the ash trays being used for something other than smoking. Take an average room. Divide its volume by that of the volume of human lungs (~.2m). Second hand smoke is so diffuse that it probably does nothing at all. Stats can be doctored in tricky ways. I suppose it sets a bad example though. So I wouldn't smoke around my kids.
smoke stinks and it gets into clothes and hair. smoking around anyone is rude. what if you had to stand next to someone who was farting consecutively for 8 minutes, and left you smelling like that. stink is stink, what's the difference. just go outside man.
I don't think the art itself was supposed to bring the awareness of the dangers. I think it has to do with the reason the art was created. The materials that went into it allude to it somewhat, but it's the spirit in which it's made. Sometimes in my own art it's hard to tell what message I was trying at without the backstory, which is unfortunate. I can totally understand what you are saying.
why not cars, emissions, perfumes all the things that ruin there life from the start with skin allergies and asma should make people guilty for the pollution we have caused and letting it continue instead of making a individual feel guilty for there pleasures any sensible smoker already knows and are considerate to others anyway ,so i take it your aiming this at idiots and as if they would understand it anyway, is nice work though
Making art is good therapy for the artist....this one is good therapy for the world. I wonder if people who smoke in the house with their kids know that when the children go to school they have nicotine withdrawl. The same goes for kids who drink caffeine before and after school. It just adds more things to get in the way of learning. Good on ya mate!
yeah im not against smoking, its optional recreation. but i see a lot of people in my area, openly smoking infront of their kids... i think you get my drift lol
wow. i thought this was a very powerful message delivered in the most eloquent way. i like that it's not preachy like other anti-smoking ads. it says, if you're going to smoke, just don't do it around the kids.
that's a really good piece. i'd seen the ashtrays and lego on your freewebs site, but didn't really understand what it was for. Now, it all comes together, and it all makes sense.
I'm impressed not only on an 'art' level, but with the fact that you're using your art to convey messages; not just painting for a quick buck, or sticking to the conventional.
That was great. I hate people who smoke around little innocent kids. Especially in cars. LOSERS.
