@rephaim23 Ha Ha... I believe you... ... the Great Sandy Desert region of Australia used to be covered with trees.. until the great giant ice age beaver plague of '81.... it was scary.... lol
holy fuck dude... you made the worlds biggest notch and then the tree fell backwards?????? That was not the best tree to begin to learn how to go about cutting a tree down...
@1overthehillsfaraway the "notch" your looking at was not the notch that guided the tree there was one in front which was the real box notch. the large section of tree that was removed was so the cutter could get close to the tree and put wedges in it if you used ur eyes you would see on of the wedges in the tree
Nice falling. Trees this size grow everwhere in British Columbia, there is one out my window right now, standing in the back yard. Feel bad for you europeans, so much deforestation, your continent used to be covered in one big impenatrable forest. WE do the same though, intensive logging. Come to Canada and see for yourself our large timber forests.
We may not use nearly as much wood as we did before, but the main cause of the loss of so many trees is clearing land for agriculture, mining, pasture space, etc.
@marcjtdc What the fuck does that have to do with anything. No its called the computer evolution. My hole house is computer operated. I cut one like that a few years ago - took me quite a while - I had a slight lean in my favour but a fresh head wind - I had a small saw so I kept nibbling at it - i was careful not to cut through the hinge -
@o56kid work as in it took a thousand years of work for that tree to get that big. i know sometimes trees have to come down but its still sad. and there may well be trillions of tree but there arent many big trees left compared to what there used to be. just look at the smokies. i think they only have about ten or twenty big tulip poplars left. all the rest were cut down.
@ironlionkalo Well, I disagree that it took "work" for the tree to grow, its pretty automatic.
As for poplars in the smokies, i dont know, but I cut timber in the Appalachians for about 4 years and there are plenty of pumpkin poplars left. I think the guy in the vid is a complete dumbass just from the way he went about cutting it. . Equally as moronic for cutting it cause it does not appear to pose a threat to any surrounding anything. .
@o56kid how is it automatic i dont see a tree grow right before my eyes in just minutes it takes hundreds of years for trees to blossom to full height
@o56kid ya there are trillions of them If you live 300 years before mankind. Its a FACT that there are only 29 percent of trees left in the world so shut the fuck up you uneducated asshole
A question, and a downright stupid but spectacular sugestion.
Question. What species of pine is that tree?
Sugestion. Explosive cord. BOOM! "Falling tree!". Cool and quick (and violates a shit load of safety issuses, and not much control of the fall direction.)
um what was the point of cutting this tree down? It sure is wide but it wasn't really all that tall. I mean it was tall but I would imagine their are some bigger trees around. You can get quit a few boards out of this tree but not as many as those other huge trees. Oh well I guess if he doesn't get the right amount of wood he is going for then at least their are so many other tree out there waiting to be cut down :)
Exactly, CO2 STORAGE, as in they use CO2 to grow, then cut 'em down, build houses out of them and the CO2 is kept locked up, isn't it? Meanwhile, plant new healthy trees to restart the cycle.
BTW, CO2 is not a pollutant. Without it all greenery would die, and with it the production of oxygen for you and me... More CO2 in a plants environment means more plant growth and production. Only a couple of years ago did al gore decide that it was a pollutant.
@NathansBackwoods Where'd you get that one about more trees on the planet than 100 years ago? Considering the loss of trees in Brazil, Indonesia, Borneo, and the boreal forest, seems to me you pulled that one out of your kazoo.

@woodscritter, its called the INTERNET...GOOGLE. And i know they produce air, thats why we dont cut all the trees down, we will never cut the trees down, in 2005 trees were growing 47% faster than we can cut them. What that means is if we cut as much as we could there would be 47% we could not get to, WE DONT EVEN USE THAT MUCH, not even close.
What people don't realise is that cutting into the back like he did is a felling technique if the tree is way bigger than your bar. As you cut pieces out it let's you cut further into the tree and then you can fell it properly
It sure is a shame for such a good tree to come down when the guys in suits think they need to!
Humm...I seem to remember that tree, but I can't see enought of the landscape to be sure. Was it on the left after you leave the Holy Lock on the way to the Lock Eck(it's been a long time)? Sad to see it come down, but that's life. I understand why you cut it the way you did. I would have found a longer bar and made a plunge cut in the face cut so when you made your back cut you would have been able to make the full cut. Same out come, but a lot safer.
Hey i'm 18 and live in Maine and been looking into getting into working in the logging business to make some money. Any ideas on where I can go or start?
@chainsaw385 I couldnt agree more. His Face cut is sloppy, it has a chevron in it, it looks like it goes through more than half of the tree! Then it looks like he starts to put a back cut in his face cut?? I could be wrong cause that was some shitty quality but damn, and the LAST place I would EVER want to be would be inside a face cut that is that deep. Strong wind and you die. He would never be on a saw on my crew if that is his normal work. But it is bigger than I have ever dropped.
@rmmcpher the reason for wat looks like 2 lay ins is that the bar we had wud not hav made it rite through so we had 2 cut in2 the back like that 2 reduce the size
Who the hell ever taught you how to fall a tree.... looks like a beaver chewed on that. I apologize to the beaver... he would have done a better job!
I agree trees need to be cut,but somehow it seems a shame to cut the big ones down ,as most were growing long before your Great Great Grandfather got that gleam in his eye ,when he saw your Great Great Grandmother for the first time!!!
Wow, someone with some sense. I can agree with you to an extent, these old trees are beautiful. However, if the land owner wants or needs them cut than he has the right to make that decision. Sometimes these old ones are just plain dangerous.
As John Muir once said "any idiot can cut a tree down" If you take a look at what was cut down in Calif. ( in the Converse Basin) just for fence posts, pencils, and shingles!!! What a Damn shame!!! But still in the end ALL things die!!!
Get your facts straight ( o56kid) Redwood was, and still is used for some things I mentioned! Fence posts,shingles,2x4's,siding, I have an older house here in Calif.,and all the facia boards, window sills, and almost all exterior trim is clear heart redwood!!! Course first thing you need to know is what Redwood looks like!!!!!!!!!!
wow.... that dude needs a bigger bar maybe make his life a little easer but what matters most is he got that evil tree down before it hurt someone now you tree huggers can rest easy tonight you'll have tp to wipe your as_ with
boohoo we all know humanity as we know it will be ended shortly anyways. Why not cut down lots of trees. Even if otherwise we have people that are going to drop our population with their 'top secret' methods...
omg god dumb americans who cant use proper grammer make me laugh, and in his defense he did say he cuts down dead or damaged trees which is fare enough. i think the bigger issue is the culture you twats have bred in america and that is to dis anyone without thinking about all the facts and the constant need to put your fellow brothers down, this is probably because you are all so fucked up inside youhave to dis someone to make yourself feel good. engage brain before opening ones mouth.
@yellabeast i dont mean to be EXACTLY like you just said, but not all americans are like that, please consider that you are speaking about every person born in america. were not all like that. but i do agree that some people everywhere are exactly how you described
Well, I still love being out in the woods and trees are some of my favorite things but still, I have NO problem at all if I need one cut, to just cut it down. I've burned wood for years for heat but I always did try to find DEAD Elms, Oak, Hickory or Cherry trees.
@willieboy561 whether you plant 200 or 100 trees but you have no right to cut down a tree.after all trees give your place a BEAUTIFUL LANDSCAPE.stop cutting trees and find alternate methods to keep yourselves warm.
mr.maxhole2, well if you are aware of your constitutional right better go and fight for more good causes like america is gettin invaded to become arabia.
fight for cause of job outsource/ DRUGS addiction affecting youth, etc.
i'm not narrow minded but i believe LIVE AND LET LIVE TREES.for they take co2 & give oxygen & save planet.they add beauty to a place why would you want to cut 1 ?? if you are doing for survival lets try to find alternatives.
@dimputhegreat , more like America gettin invaded to become mexico ! They've already snuck in an army of over 14 million , and nobody gives a shit. And don't buy that save the planet bullshit dimpu ! The planet doesnt need our help to defend itself.
@maxhole2 at least mexicans dont blow buildings.& are educated humans.well talk about giving shit when you are overtalen and lost your right.till then sleep tight.see understand my point maxhole2 man has to CO-EXIST with trees coz we share earth with them.we dont have right to say what should exist and not.planet certainly needs our help! stop cuttin trees coz TREES COOL THE TEMP AND GIVE FRESH AIR FOR HUMAN SUSTAINANCE.
@dimputhegreat You are so totally right!! I cant support you any more that I do at this moment right now!! I was wondering if you would be willing to offer yourself up as firewood to keep my family warm in order to save a tree!?!? What a noble thing you have suggested!! I promise you will serve a purpose as I burn you! THANK YOU SO MUCH!! See I was wrong, even though they are smelly, narrow minded, and generally contrary to everything, hippies can still serve a purpose!
I live in Northern Michigan, surrounded by natural, replenishable forests and when there is 3 feet of snow and no sun out your solar panels and bicycle wont cut it. Our forests are replenishable and sustainable with management. I burn wood for heat, wood that i risk my own life and health to get during winter. I only cut down dead or tornado damaged timber and there is not a thing wrong with doing so. With no due respect...... Kiss my ASS.
lame,,,blah blah blah,,,you can use alternatives rather going on a chopping spree,at least you have electricity in yo place (hope its not north pole) to keep yo self warm this is totally uncalled for chopping down huge old trees which add pristine beauty to yo place.
wat u cant c in the vid is the houses an main road all within falling distance of the tree. also there were 2 new houses gettin built near the tree and it wud b 2 dangerous 2 leave it
@fryza250 Go hump a stump you hippie leaf licker. You have no idea about the circumstances for why that tree was felled. The top looked to me (even though the video was TERRIBLE) that is was dead. Maybe it was a hazard tree and needed to come down? Not everyone is out to destroy the world. Open your eyes.
getting kinda sad seeing a tree being chopped down is just normal, whether it's a good or bad thing to chop a particular tree down is a different story
Well, in my life I have been directly involved in planting over 200,000 pine tree seedlings and I have watched them grow. I'll cut any dang tree I want to cut. I've paid my carbon tax and a few others taxes besides.
@willieboy561 Booyah!! I have cut down literally hundreds of trees in my time too. And I feel great about it because I am a firefighter for the USFS and if you count the amount that I have saved it is in the millions. I too am all paid up.
To All you Eco Dummy's ... One more time... Let me tell you something. Its not all about one tree or 100,000 trees, these things grow back in one of our generations..They absorb CO2 and store it like a bank.. .Ask coal or oil to do that... It replaces itself relatively fast... In Fact: We have more board feet of timber in Montana Than ever in recorded history. Thanx, to global warming these trees are growing big once again. Just like the old days..............
@VQ1whales to ALL you peanut sized brainies, trees are saviour of our climate, they add beauty to your place.give shade, keep the place vibrant with birds and squirrels. STOP CUTTING TREES COZ THEY ARE BENEFECIAL TO MAN IN MANY WAYS. if you still feel the urge go have six pack and sleep.SPARE THE TREES.
@VQ1whales Ya just can't reason with some of these whackos. They think it takes a gazillion years for a tree to replenish itself. Granted, that was a pretty old tree but man, I grew up in the woods basically. We had to harvest our trees about every 15 years, just on a rotational cycle. Besides, as I said somewhere in another post. I have been involved in planting over 200,000 trees and I'll cut one down any dang time I want to. I've paid my dues.
@VQ1whales i could give a shit less about the earth and it's well being its the simple fact that the tree has existed for hundreds of years and has more value than the men cutting it down.
Eco friendly to... That tree would heat my house for a year... Saves in natural gas, electricity and the oil used transport it. ... Hell...all those dead trees just up the road can replace the "new" frigan wind mills / solar panels. But, it takes effort..and hard work..... BOO! HOO! Take a kid today and cut a tree down and burn it for heat...Your kid will thank you for using a renewable resource..
cut all the trees you want, but not the old ones and please leave some standing once in a while and reforest if you really care! did you see on this video that there is not a single tree left around? take your kid and show him the mess you left behind! show him how it was before you bacteria came and destroyed your kids once beautiful planet!
The older a tree, the more animals live on it. Thats called eutropic levels! an old tree can hold up to 5 or more levels. Ex: animals, that feed on animals that feed on animals that feed on animals that feed on other animals (for the case of 5). When you cut them you kill an ecosystem! Beetle kill is because of monoculture! You have to plant different kinds of trees so these beetles will have trouble spreading (biodiversity)! Our society is a monoculture too! Beetles are no problem, we are!
Well, 7514328 i have to say u said something that is very true China sends us a lot of finished wood products the particle board, and go to a Home depot and check out where there hard wood plywood come from "China" and i bet the oak and brich is from the USA and that is very sad
No reason to have to clear cut EVERYTHING. 10-30 Sq miles of old growth patches left every so many miles would certainly be a good thing. However, clear cutting EVERYTHING for the sake of replanting fast growing trees for the mills/profits is not my idea of conservation. Yes, loggers have a job to do. I respect. I do not respect clear cutting EVERYTHING and destroying indigenous life beneath its canopy for the sake of exporting wood chips to China for particle board furniture. Fuck 'em.
WTF??? Loggers are eco-terrorist ??? u tree huggers make me sick these "MEN" are doing one of the the hardest and very dangerous job in the world and they only cut what they are told to cut
Yes. How much is enough? A million board feet? A trillion board feet? How about all of it? They are no longer called forests. They are called tree farms. Just like yourself. You may think you have a name, but in the end you are nothing more than a number. Another sheep on the farm. Do what your told. As long as you do that you will forget to think twice about your own actions and the profound affect it has on the very life that sustains YOU. Are you really that smart? To think beyond that realm?
mar504: You dumb sumbitch. There never was (other than greed and stupidity) reason enough to clear cut all those stands of old growth timber. They continued to clear cut SO MUCH until it was all gone and than scratched their dumb-shit heads when it was all gone. I love to see families loose their homes as a result of mill layoffs of every time I hear of a severe logging accident I laugh at the hypocrisy.
I'll let you in on a little secret; the earth doesn't care what we do, it was here before us and it will be here after us. The earth will be here forever, you will not, so what are you so upset about?
Oh. A big part of me already died. When I took a look at the entire Stott Mountain range (now called the nuke zone) which is barren of the once beautiful and bountiful varieties of ever greens, floral and wild lifes. Not a single tree left standing. They could have left 50 acre patches of timber every 10 miles or so. Replanted with fast growing firs with no variety. Such is the logic of greed and maximizing profit.
Oh crap what are you talking about when almost 3/4 of the wooded land in this country is protected in parks reserves and other set asides? Take a look at the big picture. You're lookin at the glass half empty. It's half full with new trees and life sprouting while the economy and our schools benefit from the revenue and more. Cry cry cry lol
Ah.ha.ha.ha.ha.....are you really serious? You must be kidding. All of your money hungry "gold digging" officials (Country Commisioners) can think about is how to extract more revenue dollars out of them trees. The Natives on the coast wisened up. They built casinos. Its nice to see those county officials, schools and long shore on the coast go broke for its own greed and dependency on the forests. They were worthless, anyways.
Where the hell did you learn how to cut ? Looks like you took lessons from a beaver....

I work for California Department of Forestry and Fire protection. It always shocks me when people complain about felling fire damaged trees.

But it is bigger than I have ever dropped.
rmmcpher 1 year ago
@rmmcpher the reason for wat looks like 2 lay ins is that the bar we had wud not hav made it rite through so we had 2 cut in2 the back like that 2 reduce the size

I agree trees need to be cut,but somehow it seems a shame to cut the big ones down ,as most were growing long before your Great Great Grandfather got that gleam in his eye ,when he saw your Great Great Grandmother for the first time!!!
stuballs42 2 years ago 3
Wow, someone with some sense. I can agree with you to an extent, these old trees are beautiful. However, if the land owner wants or needs them cut than he has the right to make that decision. Sometimes these old ones are just plain dangerous.
DLBBAM 1 year ago 12
I agree with you also!!!
But I still hate to see them go !!
As John Muir once said "any idiot can cut a tree down" If you take a look at what was cut down in Calif. ( in the Converse Basin) just for fence posts, pencils, and shingles!!! What a Damn shame!!! But still in the end ALL things die!!!

redwood wasent used for any of that except shingles & that was rare...

Get your facts straight ( o56kid) Redwood was, and still is used for some things I mentioned! Fence posts,shingles,2x4's,siding, I have an older house here in Calif.,and all the facia boards, window sills, and almost all exterior trim is clear heart redwood!!! Course first thing you need to know is what Redwood looks like!!!!!!!!!!
stuballs42 1 year ago
not pencils and other products made of cheaper wood. Redwood is some of the finest wood avalable.
BTW most of my family is from california, my great grandparents built a house in monterey that is full of redwood. . . . . .

omg god dumb americans who cant use proper grammer make me laugh, and in his defense he did say he cuts down dead or damaged trees which is fare enough. i think the bigger issue is the culture you twats have bred in america and that is to dis anyone without thinking about all the facts and the constant need to put your fellow brothers down, this is probably because you are all so fucked up inside youhave to dis someone to make yourself feel good. engage brain before opening ones mouth.

Well, I still love being out in the woods and trees are some of my favorite things but still, I have NO problem at all if I need one cut, to just cut it down. I've burned wood for years for heat but I always did try to find DEAD Elms, Oak, Hickory or Cherry trees.
willieboy561 2 years ago 3
@willieboy561 whether you plant 200 or 100 trees but you have no right to cut down a tree.after all trees give your place a BEAUTIFUL LANDSCAPE.stop cutting trees and find alternate methods to keep yourselves warm.

i'm not narrow minded but i believe LIVE AND LET LIVE TREES.for they take co2 & give oxygen & save planet.they add beauty to a place why would you want to cut 1 ?? if you are doing for survival lets try to find alternatives.

dimputhegreat 2 years ago
@dimputhegreat
Kiss my ASS.
om3gadagg3r 2 years ago
lame,,,blah blah blah,,,you can use alternatives rather going on a chopping spree,at least you have electricity in yo place (hope its not north pole) to keep yo self warm this is totally uncalled for chopping down huge old trees which add pristine beauty to yo place.

VQ1whales 2 years ago 13
@VQ1whales to ALL you peanut sized brainies, trees are saviour of our climate, they add beauty to your place.give shade, keep the place vibrant with birds and squirrels. STOP CUTTING TREES COZ THEY ARE BENEFECIAL TO MAN IN MANY WAYS. if you still feel the urge go have six pack and sleep.SPARE THE TREES.
dimputhegreat 2 years ago
@VQ1whales Ya just can't reason with some of these whackos. They think it takes a gazillion years for a tree to replenish itself. Granted, that was a pretty old tree but man, I grew up in the woods basically. We had to harvest our trees about every 15 years, just on a rotational cycle. Besides, as I said somewhere in another post. I have been involved in planting over 200,000 trees and I'll cut one down any dang time I want to. I've paid my dues.
willieboy561 1 year ago
@VQ1whales i could give a shit less about the earth and it's well being its the simple fact that the tree has existed for hundreds of years and has more value than the men cutting it down.
scar504 1 year ago
Eco friendly to... That tree would heat my house for a year... Saves in natural gas, electricity and the oil used transport it. ... Hell...all those dead trees just up the road can replace the "new" frigan wind mills / solar panels. But, it takes effort..and hard work..... BOO! HOO! Take a kid today and cut a tree down and burn it for heat...Your kid will thank you for using a renewable resource..
VQ1whales 2 years ago
cut all the trees you want, but not the old ones and please leave some standing once in a while and reforest if you really care! did you see on this video that there is not a single tree left around? take your kid and show him the mess you left behind! show him how it was before you bacteria came and destroyed your kids once beautiful planet!
pipolopulus 2 years ago
Beetle kill, will get all those 80+ year trees. Older ones help spread it. Look it up.
VQ1whales 2 years ago 2
The older a tree, the more animals live on it. Thats called eutropic levels! an old tree can hold up to 5 or more levels. Ex: animals, that feed on animals that feed on animals that feed on animals that feed on other animals (for the case of 5). When you cut them you kill an ecosystem! Beetle kill is because of monoculture! You have to plant different kinds of trees so these beetles will have trouble spreading (biodiversity)! Our society is a monoculture too! Beetles are no problem, we are!

Well, 7514328 i have to say u said something that is very true China sends us a lot of finished wood products the particle board, and go to a Home depot and check out where there hard wood plywood come from "China" and i bet the oak and brich is from the USA and that is very sad
diggerdave51 2 years ago
No reason to have to clear cut EVERYTHING. 10-30 Sq miles of old growth patches left every so many miles would certainly be a good thing. However, clear cutting EVERYTHING for the sake of replanting fast growing trees for the mills/profits is not my idea of conservation. Yes, loggers have a job to do. I respect. I do not respect clear cutting EVERYTHING and destroying indigenous life beneath its canopy for the sake of exporting wood chips to China for particle board furniture. Fuck 'em.
7514328 2 years ago
WTF??? Loggers are eco-terrorist ??? u tree huggers make me sick these "MEN" are doing one of the the hardest and very dangerous job in the world and they only cut what they are told to cut
diggerdave51 2 years ago
To think beyond that realm?

mar504 2 years ago
mar504: You dumb sumbitch.

7514328 2 years ago
Oh crap what are you talking about when almost 3/4 of the wooded land in this country is protected in parks reserves and other set asides? Take a look at the big picture. You're lookin at the glass half empty. It's half full with new trees and life sprouting while the economy and our schools benefit from the revenue and more. Cry cry cry lol
104bigTruck 2 years ago
Ah.ha.ha.ha.ha.....are you really serious? You must be kidding. All of your money hungry "gold digging" officials (Country Commisioners) can think about is how to extract more revenue dollars out of them trees. The Natives on the coast wisened up. They built casinos. Its nice to see those county officials, schools and long shore on the coast go broke for its own greed and dependency on the forests. They were worthless, anyways.
