@JoBroMad He dated her for quite some time but the relationship ended a while ago (not sure how long ago). He's written several blog posts alluding to it. He obviously cared about her a lot and still thinks about her. This is a really personal song for him where he is saying everything he wishes he could say to her now that she's gone.

Can I also add his voice sounds amazing. On Jimmy Kimmel, he was sick and sounded not so good, and on tumblr people were trying to argue with me, saying he always sounds like that, and it's sounds good; it's what he does. But this, this is how he sounds. Perfect. Especially since this is a super emotional song, and he pulls it off very well.
