Anak keeps having annual or bi-annual small eruptions. If enough pressure could build beneath the volcano in the crust, it could very well destroy itself like the original Krakatoa. Hopefully that doesnt happen in out life time
Im' sure the pressure on this volcano got to low that it couldn't repeat the 1883 eruption. but if it doesn't erupt for some time, now that's a bad sign...
The famous painting known as The Scream, was painted when the effects of Krakatoa's ash cloud appeared over Norway. The artist himself was inspired when the skies changed. "The skies suddenly turned blood red. . . I stood there shaking with fear, and felt an endless scream passing through nature." Quote from Edvard Munch, the painter of the scream.
I think Tambora still holds the record for the most powerful eruption in recorded history. Krakatoa had a VEI of 6, and Tambora is registered at 7. When one of the major super volcanoes erupts though, Tambora's grim, long standing record will surely fall.
The 1883 was more violent? That's an understatement. It's only the most powerful Volcano in recorded history. Also made the loudest sound ever recorded on earth. The shockwave circled the earth 7 times. The horizon all over the Earth was read for 4 years.
it wasnt the most powerful eruption ever. it was the most powerful eruption in recent times. there have been far more powerful eruptions all throughout history.
Actually, the eruption of Santorini in the mid 15century BCE was more violent than Krakatau's, and that is technically within recorded history. It is sumised that the eruption may have inspired the legend of Atlantis in the writings of Plato, as it corresponds and was perhaps responsible for the collapse of the Minoan civilization. Additional theories relate the eruption to the collapse of the Xia dynasty in China and possibly some of the plauges of Egypt in the Old Testament.
666 and let it erupt as soon as possible.

I say Tambora was the most "agressive"
92,000 people died in 1815 10 april, not all mostly cuz the eruption, but the famine the eruption triggered.

@simplycoolNo1 it seems the 1800s got it real bad eh fuck first Tambora then Karkatau jeez
dragmaster 1 year ago
@dragmaster it was the most violent it threw in the atmosphere 5 times volcanic matter then Krakatau ¬¬

No, it's the fish canyon caldera volcano. In geological times though, the ontong java plateau was far bigger still.

i think the only erruptions to trump krakatoa is yellowstone, and that wasnt in human history we only know about that because of geological evidence
ingibingi2000 2 years ago
Well, the Tambora eruption in 1815 was the most powerful eruption to have been seen by humans. It registered as a VEI 7.
