1. Jones' performance was really good, he looks and sounds the part. However, Hoffman actualy got under the skin of the character. He WAS Capote.
2. Capote's a far better film because it feels real and has a grainy grittyness to it. Infamous was far too stylized and some of the characters were cartoonish.
3. Performances in Capoter were better. Daniel Craig was miscast as Perry Smith. He's too big and overwhelming for the part.
From what I heard, Jones was the more Capote-ish Capote. From all the interviews and accounts from Capote's friends, he was actually a flamboyant guy who did seem a bit like a stock character.
(sigh). I have a feeling I'd like to read In Cold Blood again, but unfortunately, it was included on the syllabus for A-level English when I was a kid, so for that reason alone, all copies will have to be burnt. Sorry about that.
I thought this movie was a masterpiece!! I really thought it was going to be nominated in every category at the Oscars that year, everyone in here is great! and the picture is outstanding, it sucks that it had an unfortunate release date, or that Capote came out first, otherwise I think this would have swept the Oscars easily. Great, great film!!
why did they remake truman capote, a yr later after capote was released in 2005.. I wonder what philip seymour thought about this... Just by watching the trailer, toby jones doesn't seem that convincing...Philip did and he won the oscar for it... Toby just probably wanted to win an oscar too lol
I think Infamous is far superior to Capote. While Hoffman might have more physical resemblance to Truman Capote than Toby Jones do, his portrayal is an impression of the man, Toby Jones IS Truman Capote. Infamous also manages to blend the humour and glamour of Capote's life with the tragedy in a beautiful way. While Capote is a very good movie indeed, Infamous is ten times better.
i havent seen this, but i will, but i can already say that, judging from this trailer, i think that philip seymour hoffman does a better job as truman capote

unfortunately i was drunk when i replied to this so i take back the word wanker and say that it is my opinion only being able to speak for myself that Infamous was better. Most likely because I saw it first. There is nothing wrong with "Capote" at all it's simply darker and I really enjoyed the story being lightened with a litle more humour (not hunour! really now!)in comparison. They are both Brilliant movies. So i'll promise to proofread my comments in future so as they're legible for you.
@Magnolia296 How about no because Capote did it better a year before. This is just another example of the Hollywood Bandwagon, no one deserves an Oscar for riding it.
I believe that the film as well as the book makes people think about this issue. The cast was superb, and I said the same about the earlier rendition, but this time the characters were fully developed and believable under the circumstances. I had been impressed before, but this film is different from the last--it is more emotional, more detailed in rendition of the characters, and more interested in showing the ideas that he expressed in "In Cold Blood".
I wish the films were reversed in order of release, then this film would have gotten all the awards it should have gotten, rather than Capote. I thought this one was better, Toby was phenominal, and the whole cast actually was exquisite. Well made, acted, written, and shot, I hope this gets a following and it will make up for its lack of recognition
imo although ps hoffman won the oscar for capote he was completely miscast + played the role too cold, it was an impersonation + hardly a transformation into character whereas toby jones was born to play truman, such a shame the wrong film came out first.
I really did preffer "Capote" to "Infamous" even though "Infamous" has its faire share of famous actors in it. They must have known that someone else was making a movie about the exact same thing, why bother?
'cause when you know you can do better you should prove it XD Toby Jones, the rest of the cast, the fim director and Killer Films, the production company proved to everyone they had it in them.

Let me settle this:
Verdict: Infamous Good. Capote Better.

I think this Movie looks more like the real Truman Capote but "Capote" had this dark atmosphere I prefer that more.
smilaygirl 1 year ago
I like the movie, but Tobey Jones and Daniel Craig haven´t much resemblance with their counterparts.
Capote had have a much bigger head and wasn´t so effiminate and Perry Smith had have a striking broad face and hair strands falling on his forhead.
P.S.: Please excuse my not perfect English.
