  • excellent video! THANK YOU!

  • Wow. What a blessing this video will be. My 7th grade daughter never heard of a discus until 3 months ago, got no help from her coach, and made State. I promised her I would do everything to help through the Summer and Fall, but knew less about it than she did. I coached her in basketball and softball. Discus is foreign to me.

Thank you for posting this. This year...happy to be a State. Next year, we're hoping to make a splash. Any other suggestions of videos or reading material?

  • @JakesDad5 Get her to a summer sports camp ASAP!

  • any thoughts on doing this with a recently dislocated shoulder? can i go for it?

  • This is probably the most technical sport. I don't care how big you are technique is the only way to be a great thrower

  • look at some videos from jacko gills coach they are good aswell, "dpthrowscoaching"

  • Thank you very much for this. I never knew how to involve my lower body while throwing the discus and this video will help me throw 15-20+ feet farther. I appreciate your time and effort into making this to help all of us throwers.

  • Awesome video...

  • great vid. helped so much. thanks thanks and thanks again

  • Is there anyway I could download this video?

  • i like how he had to slow down frazekas and elekna so people could see their technique when he was showing full spin

  • this vid is amazing. great help. breaks down everything and simple to understand

  • Thanks for making this video. I am a throwers' coach and I just sent this to my group and I think it will help them. Great choices in the films clips you chose, by the way. Job well done!

  • Thanks so much for this video! I've got a meet this Saturday and I still haven't completely gotten the whole spin down yet, but this video has helped immensely!

  • The first song is possibly the best wrestling warm up song ever.

  • Great breakdown. Thanks!

  • iv been throwing a rubber disc this off season that has a couple knicks in it some are pretty big...im throwing 110-116 but does anyone know hom much the distance is affected by the condition of my disc?

  • @4004mjsmith you could throw a real (non rubber) discus 5 feet more.

  • @4004mjsmith yeah, give it about 10 more feet with a good condition metal disk.

  • What about lefties?? Just do the opposite?

  • great video

  • this video was great im in 8th grade on my track team ive been throwing like 70 and 80s last meet i got 126 i was on fire like woah im the greatest lol im only like 5foot 6 inches tall to lol not to muscular but fit

  • @kersitie im in 7th grade,no offence but ur probably not throwing it perfectly and ur still throwing far. Very far. I throw around 70 ft and i havnt gotten to try this yet, but im hoping by next year i can throw 160 ft...thats my goal.

  • @waflezinc Thats really good! I will be a sophomore this coming fall and my freshmen year i threw 160.6 at the state meet here in south dakota.. My Seventh and Eighth grade years were my years where i really accelerated in the discus. I started lifting the summer of my seventh grade year by spring track season i had my bench up to 240 and squat 260 :P and i threw 116 my sixth grade year then 156 my seventh grade year then my eighth grade year i got 183.. thanks to youtube haha and lifting haha

  • I've thrown the discus for 40 years and coached for many and even I learned a thing or two watching this video. Thanks!

  • i tend to realese the disc out of bounds at the right sector line. Any idea why?

  • @Ponce459 There are a few reasons for this, but right now you can make one fast adjustment. Start farther to the left at the back of the circle (if you are right handed). Put your back directly across the circle from the left sector line. Then turn and face the left sector line and drive right at it. Release as normal -- but now its in the middle of the sector.

  • I watch this video at least 3 times a week and it has helped me so much. Tomorrow is my qualifying meet for CIF and I'm very close to going because of this. THANK YOU!

  • thank you man, great video.

  • is 1st turn just as fast as 2nd?

  • @RealFast0Food When you get good, you actually accelerate throughout the spin. But in the beginning of your career, you just try not to slow down!

  • @RealFast0Food i find it much easier while just starting out to go slow in the back, fast in the front. helps me stay balance and keep torque, just try not to go too slow. :p

  • This video helped me a ton! I went from 135 ft at full spin to 160 ft. !!!

Thank you very much for this video!

  • thanks for providing a vid that those of us without coaches can view and improve with. it has helpeed me a ton!
