I have got a very good hint for you to keeping the nice old Engine in good shape with todays ultra dry eco fuels: Use 1:100 API TC two stroke oil / fuel mix as regular driving fuel, that keeps the old fuel-system gaskets, rubber parts, alloy parts etc... and cast iron metal surfaces of those vintage engines in excellent shape...and it also lubricates the valves and upper piston regions. Most Porsche vintage owners in Germany do so :) Also keeps carbs and tank clean and rustfree!
im not very educated on this so im asking. what is the benefit, wait first off is there now 5 vavles per cylinder or am i just retarded and is it a different concept. and whats the benefit to converting to a 20v head, more power?
@str8gone04 a silver top comes with 165hp a black top i think is 140hp and the red tops come with 140hp and the blue top has 130hp. the ITB gives it a little more, so depending if he did the cams and valves, he could anywhere from 170-220 hp.
ST is 158, BT is 162, BlueTop EDM/JDM spec with MAP is 124, BlueTop USDM with MAF sensor is 112 hp, JDM Red Top is 140.
Cams and valves might get you 200 hp in a hurry but the engine will definitely die.
Best to do full tune-up job type 220hp plus minus.
It will last you a season if you do good with oil changes, for winter use a stock blacktop with velocity stacks and open filter, you`ll have 165-170 reliable horses for winter fun while saving up for overhaul for the race engine :)
@zeeer0psi I never said aftermarket cams and valves kills engines, but if you are gonna put them on you need new buckets, shims, rebalancing etc etc, thats basically an entire head jobs worth, if youre going to do that, might as well tune up the entire engine for race instead of going thru all that work for just 10-15 hp increase ;)
To the best of my knowledge trumpets on a blacktop must be run with an aftermarket ECU. However, a silvertop 20v can be run with the blacktop ECU just fine.
Its the opposite. Blacktops have a MAP sensor which allows them to run open throttles..silvertops have the AFM sensor which means they cant run open throttles unless they put in a map sensor and blacktop ECU.
As long as one of the TB's has a vacuum port behind the butterfly, you could connect a line from that to the sensor and get a reading. That or run a line off of each TB to a common vacuum log and connect your sensor to it.
You definitely should use filters when driving, as it doesn't take much crap to damage an engine. However, for videos most people take the filters off. They definitely work without, remember that you can never get enough air into an engine :P
@arbpotatoes Some guy at the drift events I attend has a filter-less intake on his corolla and says he has had it like that for 8 years and never had a problem.
from 0 to 61 mph in less than 7 seconds.. on an otherwise untrimmed engine exept the ITB`s.. That alone is fast, THEN comes tuning potential on top of that..
when moto was helping me look for an engine he told me bt's could be revved to 9k.. don't think you'd want to because of the loss of power, but still it can. he's taken his to 9 before i know that

@anasamla Do you drive an american car?
Stock 16v 4ag - 125hp 9.4:1 compression - rev limit 7800rpm
Stock 20v 4ag - 165hp 11:1 compression - rev limit 8200rpm
20v is just newer too, so a little more oomph with more technology behind it.

Silvertops are 158 hp and blacktop is 162.
Both Silvertop and Blacktop comes with ITB`s but there are a few differences between the two.
JDM/EDM 16v Bluetop (Bigport.) with MAP is 124 hp, USDM 16v Bluetop with MAF is 112 hp. These numbers I am absolutely sure of.
Redtop (Smallport.) (JDM/EDM.) I am unsure of, around 130 to 140 hp? Google it :)

Well, it does 0-60, if you watch the speedo, pretty respectably.
Just remember, these engines haven't got that much torque to move a car.

i'm not sure but
when you had the 16v config, you passed the gear at more of 8000 rpms but with the 20v engine, you pass the gear at 8000 rpms
the 20 v is supposed to be more powerful than the 16 v,there is a problem no??
(sorry for the middle english,'im french =) )
InoX420 3 years ago
when it was 16v itb'd, i had a megasquirt ecu and had the redline set @ 9000 rpm. with the 20v, the redline is @ 8300 rpm with factory ecu.

bt's redline at around 83-8500 i think..

true. they do redline @ 8500 rpms (only 5speed ecu's). i heard the the 6speed ecus only redline 7800-8000 rpms, im not sure tho.
jdmjohn619 3 years ago
when moto was helping me look for an engine he told me bt's could be revved to 9k.. don't think you'd want to because of the loss of power, but still it can. he's taken his to 9 before i know that
