OMG I was actually crying at the Road Warrior bit (I don't even know what Road Warrior is but I get the jist). I remember seeing this on Comedy Central
I think it's a cycle. If you are an intellegent person and are somewhat connected to the world in which you live, you have really no choice but to - for the sake of not becoming suicidally depressed - turn to humor or something...
Heard joke once: Man goes to doctor. Says he's depressed. Says life seems harsh and cruel. Says he feels all alone in a threatening world where what lies ahead is vague and uncertain. Doctor says treatment is simple. Great clown Pagliacci is in town tonight. Go and see him. That should pick you up. Man bursts into tears. Says "But Doctor, I am Pagliacci."
This special was not as funny as his other two, Werewolves and Lollipops being one of the funniest comedy sets I've ever heard.
Saying this does not live up to his past work is like saying Goats Head Soup isn't Exile on Main Street or that Led Zeppelin 3 isn't Led Zeppelin 2
Patton's still one of the best around, I like him more than Louis CK, Demetri, and even Mitch Hedberg (I know, you can crucify me after the comment, just rub my tears on your belly first, excite me a bit. Let me die erect).
CK and Hedberg and Oswalt all belong in the same category. Kudos. But Demetri Martin? For shame. In the words of Patton Oswalt "he's funny, but who gives a shit."
Funny people get depressed the most. To be a humorist you have to have an informed perspective on the world, and anyone that intelligent is inevitably going to face the realities that we live in a world made of bullshit more frequently than most. If they weren't in comedy, many would probably have killed themselves.
Sorry, I'm going to have to call you out on this. Funny people do not get depressed because they see how "fucked" the world is. That is called accepting reality and it's more calming than unnerving. Many comedians are depressed in the first place. Comedians who see reality in its true light do so because they have taken a step back from society, and people with depression have had that chance.

Are you kidding me? "No Reason to Complain" was the best one he ever did. Werewolves and Lollipops was hilarious, but it's a very close second.
Of course that's just my opinion, I could be wrong.

How dare you include Louis CK with that amateur douche bag and that overrated corpse.
I agree that Patton's great, but CK in the same sentence as Martin? The fuck?
Philfa 2 years ago
You can shit on Martin all you want, but don't speak ill of Hedberg.
