I too was at that game, seated mid level behind the winning basket. MIzzou beat Washington in the first game. At 4:30 as ND deliriously starts to leave the court you can hear the boos. Those were for Adrian Dantley who had gotten into a scuffle with Cincy's Pat Cummings under that same basket minutes before the video begins. A great game even though the crowd was pulling for Cincy!
Man, I love the simplicity. Plain uniforms, clean looking court without all kinds of corporate logo crap or overbearing college logos at center court. Less is more.
@2nd2nun1 - also, no shot clock, no 3 pt shot = this is proof that neither is needed in the college game. NCAA basketball is still fun - but it was so much better in those days.
@2nd2nun1 I find this a little funny because this clip is of a game played at Allen Fieldhouse, which now has one of the largest logos at center court of any arena in the country.
Damn did people actually dress like this??? What the hell jacket was the Cincy coach wearing? It's hard to believe that anyone would think this was an appropriate way to go out of the house. I was about 10 when this game took place and I can only hope my folks had more fashion sense than that....
I was at this game as an 8 year old KU fan with my dad to watch some good tournament games. I remember being impressed by the irish fans and the excitement of the games. good memories. thanks for posting
during this time the dunk was still outlawed in basketball or as they called it "the Lew Alcindor Rule" and then was reinstated during the 1976-77 season
This is what I like about YT, I was born in Cincy and at the time of this game, I was a big Bearcat fan, but I was 10 years old, I remember the Bearcats losing this game, but I didn't see it on TV, if it wasn't for YT I would've never seen this, boy how time flies.
Dick Enberg was and still is terrific as an announcer. Too bad, there are not more true Adrian Dantley highlights... such as his gold medal Olympic performance... Or other archival footage of Notre Dame basketball including John Shumate over UCLA and Tripuka and Woolridge.
Enberg was great- heads and shoulders over many of today's announcers. I thought of him yesterday when watching the Rose Bowl- a game Merlin Olsen and he did for a long time.
Dantley was a great and classy player. I couldn't help noticing there wasn't a single dunk here and yet the game was riveting. The slam dunk is such an overdone, overrated thing.
I am a KU fan and have regular season tickets for KU basketball. Neat to see Allen Field House in 1976. I never knew it was a two level arena. The floor even looks smaller. Hard to believe that was 32 years ago.
it's incredible how little recognition Duck Williams gets for his input to ND basketball. granted he played alongside Dantley, Paxson, Tripucka and people like that but damn was he a clutch plyer
Too bad there wasn't a Rick Barry doing that game because it was Rick who alerted that there were two seconds in that 1976 OT game between Phoenix vs. Boston.
Back then, the rule in college basketball was that the clock would continue to run after a basket was made. That rule was changed more than a decade ago to allow the clock to stop after a made basket in the last minute of the half, game, or OT.
You can see the Cincinnati players trying to call time out with 2 seconds. left. You are supposed to grant a time-out regardless if they did have any or not.
His jersey isn't even retired by the Jazz because he outsmarted that cheapskate, backdoor-racist, Jazz owner, Larry Miller during contract negotiations in the mid-1980's.
Majesticon is right, I had to adjust to what I was seeing. No 3 point line, no "flipping" sign on the scorers table no painted logos all over the place and the players could shoot the ball into the basket without dunking and styling

I like watching broadcasts of 70's tourney games. This is the way it was before the 64-team tourney and the office pools.

Hard to believe, but the notre dame basketball team was wearing green jerseys a year before the football team did.

Wow...Adrian Dantley right after the last of his "fat kid" days. Hard to believe he used to be "that fat kid." Should DEFINTELY be in the HOF.

You wouldn't happen to have a clip of NBC Grandstand (aka the postgame show) would you?

My clip of NBC Grandstand that follows this game lasts only about 10 seconds before cutting off.

Still would be cool to see it -- I've never seen any part of Grandstand. Thanks for the basketball video.
