  • Interesting, any possibility that you have placed some kendo aspects into this martial art? Just wondering...

  • This is great stuff. U cn see their techniques. Beutiful.

  • I'll be a black sash someday lol! XD only a little purple belt at this time heehee!

    these guys are good!

  • i friggin love those pants, and i love the stance at 3:10

  • where did this martial art originated first? in north or south korea?

  • The origin of Hwa Rang Do is over 1600 years ago in the Southeast Kingdom of Silla. When it was founded as a modern martial art system by our Dr. Joo Bang Lee, he established it and introduced to the public for the first time in Seoul, Korea in 1960. We will be celebrating our 50th Anniversary this year.

  • btw im sorry for giving another question but how can you tell what rank a person is.. i mean is it just like a black belt higher than a brown belt kind of type? and will be their an exibition in the upcoming 50th aniversery? again sorry with the question..

  • @ilikewasabe The ranking is very simple. The color sashes wear the white top and navy bottom and all the Black Sashes wear all Navy uniforms. Yes, we will have our weapon competitions for the 50th. The Friday is all dedicated to weapon forms and fighting. The weapon fighting will be Gumtoogi: long sword vs. long sword, twin swords vs. twin swords, and open division with all different size swords. Bontoogi will be the same but with sticks.

  • @WCHwaRangDo do you guys have any school in Montreal Canada?

  • What's the different between a normal staff and this kind of stick weapon? Just a mid-length staff kind of weapon? Or a different form of fighting?

  • Not exactly sure what you are asking, but the staff used are made of rattan so it's flexible and light, reducing the possibility of injury to opponent. We fight with different size rattan staffs and batons. Here it's Jangbong (long staff) vs. Jangbong. Hope this answers your question.

  • what is the name of this martial art and where does it come from?

  • The name of the Martial Art is Hwa Rang Do and it's origins are from Korea.

  • wow! these fighters did really well. they kept calm and rapidly produced defensive techniques and advanced offensives. i would hate to engage either one in a staff fight. makes my technique feel really sloppy: - self taught

  • Not to spoil any ones facts, maybe you should look at some quality FMA. Sword, Knife, stick, hand and leg strikes. Done for Centuries. This however, seems a lot more organized. Best of luck with all your training.

  • Thank you for the clarification. Yes, you are right, there has been different types of weapon combat that of course apply stikes and cuts to the legs. However, this is the first time utilizing the kendo/kumdo applications and rules with the addition of the patent pending leg protector to legally strike to the legs for points. We hope this has made it more clear to our audience. Thank you for your input.

  • wow, lol I'm really fascinated by this. really lol.

is this relatively new? I can imagine some crazy techniques lol.

can you use ANY type of weapons? do they have to be the same? can one person use like 2 swords vs like a staff? that'd be crazy. If I ever goto cali I would definately check this place out... o.o

  • Gumtoogi & Bongtoogi are ground breaking evolution in Eastern Sword & Stick Fighting metohds. Innovated by 8th Dan Grandmaster Taejoon Lee, this new application of weapon Fighting is the first in history to include leg strikes, completely changing the way two warriors face off against each other. Gumtoogi is also the only Sword Fighting System that matches competitors with different sword types against each other; from long swords, short swords, twin swords, and many other weapon combinations.

  • Um just wondering what age do you guys teach because I'm 13 and very interested in this, but it seems only adults are learning.

  • No there are children in the class. 13 is fine.

  • Oh okay thank you I didn't know because they are wearing the uniforms.

  • es un gran video sobre ese arte marcial tradicional , muy bueno,

  • Pretty cool vid.

  • Great!

Gum Too Gi and Bong Too Gi are hard and effective ways to train the traditional weapon fighting.

The Grand Master Taejoon Lee is a martial art genius.

  • tx for sharing !

We do cross over sparrings fro quite a while now and made good experience and development therefrom.

Good to see traditional arts opening up and giving the fighters a field for testing their skills in an advanced environment.

  • Nice :)

  • When I first saw this at an experimental session at the beach, I was awed by the reach and force one of the staffs hits the leg with, when swung 360 deg into the opponent's leg. Now that's some crazy weapon fighting!
