  • good video.. i'd just like to point out that if you plug the cable in back to front or otherwise incorrectly, its not just a case of it not working, the cable has a good chance of melting and/or catching fire (as the last 4 cables are the power supply) just as mine did about 12 years ago when i plugged it in while drunk.. haha oops :P

  • i was wondering if anyone could tell me how how to install amiga 500 games onto the hard disk i tryd to install monkey island 2 but i really dont get what the hell its means by name a place one your hard drive to install the instruction manual sez some stuff about typeing }DH0: or something like that i really dont get it

  • Red wire on ribbon always goes to pin one which is usually always marked on circuit boards

  • Very helpful tutorial!

I have an Amiga 500 with 1mb RAM, is it possible to add this CF card as a hard drive? Or is it just for the A600 and A1200? Thanks!

  • @zonaps2 Sorry but no, the A500 does not have an IDE slot on the motherboard so you wont be able to do this.

  • @Retrosofer have you seen the video uploaded by MN12BIRD called amiga 500 hard drive it seams he has a modded amiga 500 that has a harddrive added do you have any idia how this was done cheers

  • @zachthezombie From what i understand, because the A500 doesn't have an IDE port, you have to get a IDE controller and mod the system so it connect up. I dont know the specifics, but that basicly it in short from what i can tell.

  • Can I put Amiga ROMS on the card and play them on the machine?

Also Do I need to use workbench to access the files?

  • No you dont need to have workbench to access any files on Amiga, you could use Classic Workbench. The roms on Amiga are in adf format which is disk images, these will work in real or emulated Amiga's. Also with WHDLoad they can be installed onto the hdd and the games played from there insted of the from disks.

  • Thanks for these vid's

Time to replace my 2.1gig hdd in my A1200 with a 4-8 gig cf card

You can use as big cf card as you want up to 128 gig's...with OS3.9 SCSI.DEVICE is patched to allow bigger drive and partition sizes but you must keep your boot partition within 2 gig's

  • Cool, glad the video helped. I was aware that you could have a hdd over 4gb with Workbench 3.9, but thought most people will have 3.1 or earlier so didn't mention it.

Also dont know how to partition the hdd with 3.9 because partitioning the drive wipes the drive clean, which in turn will remove the cd rom software, making the instalation of 3.9 impossable, im sure there is a work around, but i dont know it, will look into it for a future video though.

  • There is no IDE interface in an A500 (though I am not sure about the A500+) Otherwise great info! Amazing we can use these now!

  • I checked, it appears built in IDE support began with the A600 then the A1200...............

  • Thanks dude, i didn't know that, i have forgotten alot of stuff so working from memory which is a bit patchy in some areas.

  • No problem man, I love AMIGA to this day but my A1200 was sold before they started having great options like this. I really tried getting into Atari computers even lately but I don't see them comparing in the least, AMIGA was incredible!
