This is the out come of an irresponsible pet owner if your going to house large exotic pets you need to know the animals know their tempers and MAKE SURE THAT THEIR ENCLOSER IS SECURE! I have a ton of exotic pets at my house I've got dogs a cat too me and my gf don't have children but every single one of my animals enclosers are secure to the point there is no way of escape its they way a responsible exotics or just a pet owner should be any pet exotic or not is a danger to a baby!

Well in terms of these pythons (atleast in Florida) its too late to outright ban them since they're already thriving as an invasive species thanks to incompetent owners, so when i say certain i mean other animals that can become invasive or simply shouldnt be allowed to be pets due to risk to humans.

Also, dogs and horses kill and harm more people than all pet snakes, large constrictors and venomous included, kept by private citizens in the U.S. combined.

If you are the type to allow your kid to play with the dog, even while he eats, YOU TOO ARE FOOLS and you will be next, so tell your selves YOUR pet is good, and trust it with kids. Just a tragic story.. Hell of a way for a 2 year old to die....The owner of that snake just condemned himself to a lifetime of mental anguish and no prison term will ever remove it from him. I couldn't imagine carrying the weight of that severe irresponsibility. I find that a cat, turtle and fish do just fine as pets.

I think the parents killed the child and blamed it on the snake. Snakes do not kill for fun like dogs and cats do. In fact, it is not unheard of for snakes to be injured or killed when live rodents are kept in their cage when they're not hungry.
And if the snake was trying to eat the kid..why was it just laying on them? Shouldn't it be, you know, eating them?
Sounds like the druggies killed the baby and then blamed it on the snake. He also didn't sound upset in his call at all.

burmese pythons are highly endangered in the wild cause there hunted for there skins and the juveniles are smuggled into the US for the pet trade

BS. Tons of burmese pythons are bred in captivity. Buying a CB python from a breeder doesn't harm the wild population at all.
Also, dogs and horses kill and harm more people than all pet snakes, large constrictors and venomous included, kept by private citizens in the U.S. combined.
Even if the snake was trying to eat the kid, a starving dog would have done the same thing. Blame the abusive owner, not the snake. Burmese pythons are ambush predators and do not actively hunt.

Actually the snake was owner by the girlfriend and not the boyfriend and they had been asked repeatedly by their family members if they wanted a cage with a lock on it for the snake and they kept saying no.

For those of you against reptiles, think of it this way, They are animals, just like a dog, Would you let you child play with the dog's Food? Only a fool would. This guy should have had a proper cage. I have a very well trained German Shepard, But I would NOT allow my child to play with him food while he ate, its just common sence, I would not allow my child left alone with him, even though he has not a mean bone.

These people are correct. Any animal is programed to eat, kill survive. If you are the type to allow your kid to play with the dog, even while he eats, YOU TOO ARE FOOLS and you will be next, so tell your selves YOUR pet is good, and trust it with kids. Some peoples kids are just not bred right. If you take on owning any animal than educate your self, call a dog trainer, ask them if its a good idea to let the kids play with his food.
