thier onot hrps or convicts , they are honduran red points. there is very little differences between them but the red coloring in the tail and anal fins indecates that they are red points
definitely HRP's, look at the red tinge to their back tails and underbellies. awesome fish I am so jealous you found somewhere with so many. My LFS has had 2 in the past year, a pair that was breeding at the shop and now in my aquarium they aren't so good of friends :-(
by the way, the earlier comment about hybrids is true. a convict/hrp cross could be indistinguishable from some pure HRP's. I'd say you it's a safe bet yours are real.
Hi Shirley, sorry for opening the first comment with "Hi Dude'....I didnt even think :).....the guy who wrote that article seems to have an active hatred for hybrids, which i guess is fair enough from a professional pov, but that doesnt mean your fish are ethically no good, the ethics lie in your handling of the hybrids, ie:not trying to sell them as purebreds. The article kinda sounds a bit mean towards ppl who accidentally have hybrids somehow lol...I think its cool that you have unique fish !!
haha i ran out of room in last comment....anyway they're pretty cichlids and i guess u will find out what they really are if /when they go on to breed. Sweet footage btw, I wish all vids on here were this clear ! -here is a some helpful info on cichlid hybrids -- cichlid research. com/hybrids .html
Hi dude, I think what you have here are HRP's, tho they arent usually this colorful.Alot of the time its really hard to pick convicts from red points just by their look, the easiest way is by their behaviour...convicts are quite agressive, claiming territory, chasing every fish except their breeding partner,etc..where red points are more timid and will spend more time hiding. Its very possible that they are a mix of both aswell. All i can tell you for sure, is that they are not purebred Convicts

Possibly hybrids, but body shape is more HRP than Cons. (longer and not as high)
