Where can I find sheet music for the recorder so that I can practice past the grade school level? I am really sick of Mary Had a Little Lamb, and really want something smooth and elegant hopefully with a haunting and beautiful sound to it. Please reply.
@TheRemyD There's a lot of stuff on Amazon, look for Baroque books...unfortunately most of the better sheet music is not free. If you have a local music shop, they may have a used bin of music that's where I get a lot of my stuff.
Hi Alain, Indeed I have studied 6 main instruments at the conservatory (not all at once), I never could decide what I liked more and still don't know.
Amazing! You've truly brought out the recorder's beauty! The tones sounded really great! Did you learn the recorder by yourself? And if you did, how did you learn vibrato (i think that's whats it's called)
I think you mean his trills, and yes, they are superbly done. Beautiful recorder playing. Does my heart joy, as I am a recorder player myself. Your fingering was spot on, as was your tone. Brilliant job, keep up the good work.
Just amazing. I really enjoyed the paintings interspersed with seeing you play. It gave visual diversity to the video. It's marvelous to hear how beautiful the recorder can be.
lovely piece, although your breathing is a little intrusive, you could work on letting the air in without a large gasp of breath it would result in a more professional overall sound and become sweeter and more lyrical, perhaps you overblow slightly sometimes and your tone sufers. Otherwise, well done, keep it up! Why did you tune it down?
thanks for commenting. in fact we have 2 pieces here. With recorder you have to overblow sometimes, to get a tone in the right pitch and the recorder can become a little intrusive then. Tuning down has to do with the old French tuning a = 398 and makes the tone sweeter to my taste.
Yes indeed, it was just a typographic error. I wonder why you lowered the pitch, although I liked the sound of the recorder as I am searching for such a voiced recorder.
I am looking for examples to demonstrate the typical sound of different varieties.
"searching for such a voiced recorder", does this mean a recorder with a voice like that, or one with some sort of special attention afforded to fulfil an expectation?
Thank you! For me every instrument, presents the same problem: to make it sing. I never could - and still cannot - make a good choice what instrument I like most of all. It often differ, from time to time.
Hey, your remark makes me recall the time when I started studying 'Kodály concept', which taught me so much. Kodály wrote that Toscanini was always telling his orchestra to sing: Cantare!
Yes, or otherwise a flowingly speaking is also very helpful. To point out to people who can't properly sing, to sing on their instrument, is also a problem.....
That sounds great!Never thought it would be possible to compose something so beautiful for recorder (other than Bach's work of course) Too bad you do not know who wrote this.. May I ask why you think it is written by Quantz?
Well I just "know" it for many years, but I'm not sure what the latest opinion is, about these pieces. They come from 15 (anonymous) solo-pieces edition Schott and are also to be found at the end of a method by Giesbert. I normaly don't play recorder anymore and don't occupy myself a lot anymore with the recorder repertoire. If one compare those pieces with the solfeggi for Frederick the great, they must be by Quantz, I would say....
These pieces appeared as part of SONATE / DE Mr BRAUN / A FLUTE TRAVERSIERE / ET BASSE ... (1740). Many of them also appear in a Quantz ms in the Giedde Collection, Copenhagen. 15 of them published in the 1930s by F.J. Giesbert from a Darmstadt ms lost in WW2 war, with no indication of the composer(s). Quantz collected extracts from other composers' works for teaching purposes. It seems reasonable to attribute these pieces to Jean Daniel Braun.
