Filipinos: Asian or Pacific Islanders? Filipinos vs Fil-Ams (Fil-Am Identity Crisis)

I am a REAL pacific islander from the region of Micronesia. I have noticed that Filipinos will say Pacific Islander to Americans, but NEVER say they are Pacific Islander when they are with Hawaiians, Chamorros (Guam/Marianas), Samoans, etc.. Why is that? Maybe because in the reality, they know that Filipinos are NOT Pacific Islanders.

I guess not all Filipinos don't know much the Racial Caste system exist during the Spanish Colonial era. The Indio intermarried w/ the Negritos & The converted Chinese Merchant that embraced the Catholicsm & were Hispanized that they mix with the Indio that's why Mestizo de Sangley term was born they intermarried to the Mestizo de Espanol or Blanco to have tornatras..

The identity crisis comes mostly from Fil-Ams, especially the ones who discriminate against Filipinos. This is a fact. "Filipinos" in the way the word is used today, did not officially exist until the 20th century.

This adds a lot of miseducation to Filipinos and to people all around the world because it leads people to believe. Original Filipinos are pure spanish descent BORN in the Philippines. They are the Filipinos, but today the meaning of Filipinos is a mixture of different ancestry.

Filipinos is composed of different races or ethnic/ancestry background: Negritos, Austronesian/Malay, Arab, Spanish,Indian, Mexican, Chinese, American, other european & asian settlers. Filipino is just a nationality because anyone can be a Filipino citizen now. a lot with foreign ancestry were granted a Filipino nationality or a Philippine passport same with the other countries.

Pacific Islander - No, The link that links to us is our Austronesian Heritage (Culture, Language and some ethnic including Malaysian, Indonesian, Polynesia, Micronesia and Melanesia)

Hispanic - is also a culture definition that links to Spain.

Latino - are refered to people that speak a latin language

Austronesian started as a language family and there are plenty of Austronesians found throughout SE Asia. @ImSoPinoyPride spanish loanwords were just adopted due to the result of colonization. chavacano is not a fully spanish but a spanish creole. a lot of mexican words were adopted as well specially from the nahuatl and aztec as some of these people intermarried to the local residents of the Philippines during the galleon. What i understand with the word Latino were inhabitants of the countries that speak latin language specially the European Roman Languages.

@impinai79 Chavacno isn't even an official language nor is it spoken by the majority of Filipinos. That's like me trying to argue that there's a small population of Chinese speaking in Puerto Rico, therefore Puerto Ricans are also Oriental. The official languages are English and Filipino (based off Tagalog). Filipinos are not Latino, just because some words are borrowed doesn't mean much. AGAIN, Vietnam has a Latin-based system, are u going to call them Latinos? i didn't think so.

Also, just like the term "Asian", it is socially constructed. In the U.S., Latino refers to people from Latin America and Spanish speaking countries. Filipinos and the Philippines do not fall under that category. Just because people in Singapore speak English does not make them Latin or European either.
