  • I never said Bocelli wasn't incredible, again I reiterate that I am a fan, and I do feel Michael Crawford can sing. Bocelli is trying to sing it as an opera piece, which it is more of a musical piece. I like many of Bocelli's other songs. I like his Best Of, but in this particular case, I prefer Michael Crawford.

  • he sounds really bored while singing

  • @8bandnerd

no, it's just not his mother tongue. he sings awesome, but English is not a very good language to sing in compared to Italian. words end with consonants too often, whereas Italian almost always ends with vowels, which can be sung way more emotionally.

  • @8bandnerd i guess he was just nervous (look how he closes his fist), after all he doesn't sing in english that often (not solo, at least), so maybe he had a little bit stage-feaver even if he's a professional :P

  • I recognize his level of ability, but this is a really bad rendition of an incredible song.

  • el es hermoso......

  • @Albolu

    Illidan Stormrage.

  • I love Andrea Bocelli, but can honestly say that he's not my favorite. I still prefer Michael Crawford.

  • @xanaminx it's fair you said that , it was michael crawford who was the original phantom and he was the one who really shaped the character but you can't not say that bocelli's voice isn't incredible, crawford was an actor doing a little singing , it worked because he was acting as the phantom whereas bocelli is singing it straight

  • I love Andrea, but his is not his song!

  • Simplesmente, maravilhoso!!!!!!!!!!!

  • It looks like he carried a teleprompter in his ear. He did not sing naturally. Anyway, English is not his language.

  • Amazing!!! One of the most amazing male singers in the world singing a song from one of the most amazing performances in the world. It's in a word, perfection.

  • all of the gerard butler loving retards need to get off of this video. andrea bocelli is brilliant and has more talent than any of you could ever hope to have. he was actually trained properly as a classical singer. so seriously shut the fuck up. and go back to worshiping your autotuned, scoopy, squeaky, untalented gods. you don't deserve to listen to andrea.

  • THIS IS AMAZING

  • Loud and annoying

  • @ScoutAn01 you clearly have no idea what music is.

  • Hmm nice

  • @xXSentFromAboveXx uh. no. he's famous because he is brilliant. his enunciation sounds strange because he's italian. and sings mostly italian songs. clearly you know nothing about real music or talent.

  • @nikkieup14 Uh, no. He really isn't. Bocelli has been heavily criticized over the years for his off-par technique and mediocre performances. I'm aware that he's italian and I find it funny that you think that this is a valid exuse. Operatic singers are expected to sing clearly and fluently in foreign languages; regardless of whatever their native language may be. I've also sung tenor in choir for many years, I regularly attend musicals, plays, concerts, and recitals.

  • @xXSentFromAboveXx Bocelli is heavily criticised because his singing is a unique style, because of this some people will like it some won't. Your of course entitled to your opinion but the way you expressed it was clearly wrong. You slandered someone on there video, did you really expect a good response? If you did, your an idiot.

  • @joetheking78 Slander is defaming someone with false information implied to be true, which is not what I did. I gave my honest, objective criticism of a mediocre singer. I never slandered anyone. You Bocelli fans are just butthurt that not everyone blindly worships your idol with the same fervor that you do.

  • @xXSentFromAboveXx You did slander him "The only reason he's famous is because he's blind" - for starters that isn't criticism. Us' Bocelli fans' aren't 'butthurt' (is that even a word), were just annoyed that someone such as your self with no obvious musical talent would comment on a video instead of just ignoring it. It seems to me your just an attention seeking child, please go troll elsewhere.

  • @joetheking78 What I said is slander in the same way that a pinch is assault. Pick up a tabloid in your local supermarket if you want to see real slander. Secondly, even if I possessed zero musical talent that doesn't mean that I can't spot mediocrity in an artist. And third, do you even know what trolling is? If you thinkat th I'm a troll then you have a serious misconception of that word even means. Go educate yourself in internet vernacular before you attempt using it.

  • @xXSentFromAboveXx A pinch is assault, therefore what you said is slander. If you possess zero musical talent chances are it means you can't spot mediocrity, it may mean you can spot artists styles you dislike, but not mediocrity. And of course i know what trolling is, do you think i would call you one if i didn't? And yes you are a troll and if you don't think you are maybe you should go and educate yourself on it, instead of attempting to sound like a music critic, when clearly your not.

  • @joetheking78 A couple years back I tried to take a cooking class and I failed at it spectacularly. Does the fact that I can't cook mean that I can't tell if something tastes like garbage?

Also I regularly participate in choir, theatre, and I am going to major in NYU's musical theatre concentration starting next fall. While I'm not a world class performer I have a fairly decent level of musical intelligence that I think holds some merit.

  • @joetheking78 Trolling is deliberately trying to cause controversy, which isn't what I was doing. I was criticizing Bocelli fairly and objectively. Also, try to understand that I hold classical/opera artists to a higher standard than contemporary pop artists. Bocelli is leagues ahead of most contemporary singers but when compared to other classical singers he just doesn't match up.

  • @xXSentFromAboveXx

I'm sorry to interrupt a youtube argument, but I think you are trolling. Saying 'he's only famous because he's blind,' you knew that you were going to get a bad reaction. Saying that also isn't fair or objective, that's deliberately attacking him. Your opinion is that he isn't a good singer: fine, I understand that. But to blatantly announce to his fans that he's obviously not very good and only is famous because he has a disability? That would be trolling.

  • @singout989 You make a good point. I have nothing against Bocelli the Man but I can't stand Bocelli the artist. What I think happens is people hear him carry a tune that is superior to most contemporary artists and then they discover he's blind and think "Oh wow, that's so incredible that he's able to overcome a disability like that and still sing so beautifully.", ignorant of other classical artists out there.

  • @singout989 I'd never hold a disablity against anyone but I still believe that Bocelli being blind was a major factor to his rise to stardom. Also, I think the other reason he has become so popular is that he's made classical music accessible to a mainstream audience; which is good because it exposes the public to classical music but at the same time it's bad because it's being delivered through an inferior medium (the medium being Bocelli).

  • @xXSentFromAboveXx You're absolute correct. According to Bio-Psychology, the unused brain( which was supposed to be used for the damaged sense) will be allocated to other sense; for this reason, handicapped is not that miserable.

  • @xXSentFromAboveXx There will never be one classical singer that is the 'best' some people will prefer different styles to you. Just because someone doesn't sing the same as everyone else doesn't make them bad. Just the same as if you dislike someone others may like there style. You mentioned how critics think his style is weak but there are many other critics who hold in him high esteem. Just because you dislike someone doesn't mean there bad (or mediocre).

  • @nikkieup14 Your line of reasoning makes no sense either. Because I don't like a singer that you do automatically means I know nothing about real talent or music? You know nothing about me or my life and yet you're making the assumption that I'm some uneducated hick through a youtube comment.

  • @nikkieup14 Clearly, you have no tolerance of differing opinions and cannot make a counter-argument without personally attacking me.

  • Bocelli is definitely a very good singer. However as far as this song is concerned, he doesn't come close to the performances of either Ramin Karimloo or Michael Crawford.

  • @nightsinger81 Yes, no offense to Mr. Bocelli, but even Gerard Butler put more feeling into the song than this. It's too vanilla of a performance to the music any justice.

  • @jdw99 Agreed. And just so anybody who is interested in seeing a really good performance of MOTN (and because I failed to mention his name in my earlier comment) I am adding a link to John Owen Jones' performance from the 25-th anniversary of Phantom of the Opera. Enjoy everybody: watch?v=_lzIteBGNPE

  • @nightsinger81 Very nice, he is a great singer, he makes it look effortless, even thoug it's not an easy song at all. The only fault I can find is that that version makes the Phantom seem almost too sympathetic, because he delivered such a sensitive rendition!

  • Sloppy.

  • I usually love him, but I didn't feel this version at all.... this song usually has me in tears. Lovely singer, fantastic performer, but didn't like this!

  • This Andrea Broccoli guy is pretty good.

  • @tangypasta ah- ah -ah. Did you have you fun now?

  • The song is good. The singer is excellent!!

  • The song is good. The singer is excellent!!

  • GOOOODDDD..SONGGGGG IS MY IDOLLLLLLL....A.B...SOS LO MEJOR....

  • Maravilloso!!!!!!!!!

  • well im gonna give a stupid i wish american would fucking stop with stupid music its all about nigger rap shit nothing pure anymore even our 60 70 80's atleast have a heart behind it now its becoming just fucking stupid. god i wanna lean a new language and get the fuck off this contenant

  • @karazze0285 lol cry

  • @karazze0285

    please leave!

  • I like me it, but, i'd rather Anthony Warlow's performance

  • I don't really like his version. He's a technically great singer, but he doesn't really put any emotion into this song.

  • hard to understand how many stupid people give comments here;they are the other side of the internet; they even dont disisurve attention I know, but wish could hit their asses, they are only the trouble of this world

  • :):)

  • Your voice puts me in touch with an other dimension..after this material things, is something of divine! Thanks to exist

  • I'm playing this in orchestra :D

  • Bravo Andrea!! So beautiful!

  • have you ever heard jan lemuel blanco of the Blanco family

he sang this song with his heart and he has a great voice

  • csodálom őt

  • @horvaynemaya

Ennek oka, hogy a zenei ízlés szar.

  • wir haben Dich lieb...

  • I do miss passion. There is no interpretation of the song. :-(

The voice sounds also to be always levelled to the same flat tonality.

He may also be a good singer, but I heard several better interpretations of this song by from musical theatre singers (of course they are not world stars as he is).

  • @Schaefer7391

You're right. See my insightful comment above.

  • @Schaefer7391 I've heard people with a less mature voice than his (i mean in terms of experience) who have sang it far, far better. He's just hitting the pitches in this. I've heard him put sooo much more passion into other songs.

  • a barra vermelha é do tamanho do pinto do Pe lanza !!

  • Pity The Stones or The Who or The Floyd had not played this concert. It would be well worth Diana dying just to seem them play.

  • @mihaeltomasovic Maybe the accent is some part of it. Maybe it sounds otherwise for people with the same. But for me, I cant hear the feeling in the song, and I realy miss that. But sure, maybe a point

  • He just killed the song

  • @TheEdwri well remember he has an extremely heavy accent... it's like when english/american singers attempt to sing Arias from Mozarts The Marriage of Figgaro, or Puccini's Madame Butterfly

  • Penoso.

  • I love this music. I had the honor of seeing Phantom twice on Broadway -- the most specatcular moving musical theatre ever. Bravo!

  • He has a voice for any kind of song

  • Bocelli's gift of singing comes from God. What a talent!

  • I SAW THE TITLE AND WAS LIKE "FUCK YEA!!!"

  • I miss the passion and hate fact thanthey skipped "Help me make the music of the night" where that last tone SHOULD have been!

  • Awesome

  • Great singer ... verging on legendary status

    but doesn't fit this song

idk maybe he's having an off day

  • Сплошное восхищение! Бочелли борозды не испортит!

  • I love Puccini.....

  • very high.....

    i like this

  • You all have to see John Owen-Jones do this song, He did it for years in London Theatre

  • is better Paul Bots

  • What a bunch of uneducated a22holes--he does better than any of you in any language.

  • First of all, the use of profanity generally indicates a person of lesser intelligence. Notwithstanding that point, I am quite educated; especially when it comes to singing. I would admit that I am nowhere near the talent of Bocelli, and that his accent is beautiful and quite charming in places, however in this song it is not appropriate. If you are a singer, you would know this. You change phrasing, articulation, dynamics, etc. to fit the piece, not the other way around.

  • @MER19621 Fuck yeah!

  • It's not just passion; the accent clouds the words which Crawford so eloquently articulates. There were comments about it not being Bocelli's fault because the tempo was so fast. Not true, the orchestra is giving him such a relaxed, wonderful tempo and he is RUSHING IT!! I'm not dissing Bocelli's vocal talent, but there is more to singing than mere technical precision. All that being said, something tells me he hasn't done this particular arrangement before and had to learn it last minute.

  • @MER19621 Ditto.

  • it's not synchrone... shame..

  • Nádhera

  • Sorry, 4:27?

  • Did anyone else see prince William around 1:27? Beautiful song though. I lone Andrea.

  • Andrea Bocelli is one of the classic voices of our time. He can sing anything at all and make it sound fantastic.

  • @222bexter

although, music of the night is an epic piece anyway :)

  • @222bexter I hope your use of classic isn't referring to classical music. Bocelli's voice is fine in contemporary settings, but his numerous recorded arias make me violently projectile vomit.

  • I bet that was fucking epic.

  • he is sooooooooooooo good!

  • Harry looked very moved by that.

  • @ViktoriyaTaylor well said..if he could only see crowd's standing ovations every song he makes..such a wonderful voice makes me cry..

  • I love Andrea Bocelli. Always have ever since I figured out who he was, and have always thought his voice was the greatest of this age. But... his voice just doesn't fit with this song. It's too quick, too loud, the original piece is supposed to be as gentle and as soothing as possible, he just invokes too much emotion into it, methinks.

  • Absolutely, deliciously, wonderful! I can't believe that only 65,000+ have viewed this performance!

  • Andrea Bocelli has no equal!!! SOOOO beautiful!! I get chills!! He can sing to me anyday!!!

  • his voice wow <3

  • let him sing in italian his singing doesn't come

close to his ability i think it throws him off totally to sing english i hate this recording it sucks and he listened to the wrong people to

sng in english probably makes sense on one level the results are sad

ilisten to ab everyday this is a sad representation of thje really

    great things he has done

  • wow my favorite song just absolutely taken to a new level

  • How could anyone DISLIKE this????

  • Bocelli's awesome, but he put this song to shame...

  • I can't stop wachting his videos! He's a peferct singer! And very handsome too.

  • wonderful!

  • omg that music gives me chills everytime i hear it!!! the band lol

  • It was very good. But the passion that is needed for the song, was missing a bit...

  • @MrReed314 your spot on with your coment, check jan werner from norway singing this, heart and soul in it .

  • @MrReed314 language barrier?

  • has he ever not been phenominal???

  • This is so beautiful! I absolutely love this song and "The Phantom!" viewpoints7

  • i think he wants to sing faster but the orchestra is too slow :/

  • no....i don't care for it. some of the words he doesn't even pronounce right. or at least they sound strange. "let your mind start a journey through a stange new WORD... leave all thoughts of THER LIGHT you knew before..."

.... that's just how it sounds to me???

  • @MrShaun42088 Considering that he is Italian and doesn't speak English well,he did a good job. American or British singers also make mistakes when they try to sing in a foreign language.

  • @Miriamele100 even you say he did a good job....it wasn't phenomenal...or outstanding. it was good...but as MrReed314 said, "it's missing the passion"

  • @MrShaun42088 I was referring to his pronunciation. I also prefer some of the more passionate versions, also the deeper voices. I love Bocelli but I don't think this song really suits him.

  • He'd never make a Phantom, but I love his version of this song!

  • Is He Blind?

  • @spidermanfan5 yes, he's

  • @Bocellina yes he is, he got an accident when he was playing football causing damage on his eye sight permanently when he was just 12 years old.

  • @Bocellina hes deaf u dumbass

  • @1986mvp What are you talking about? You're the dumbass! He's BLIND, not deaf!

  • @1986mvp He's blind. Stupid twot.

  • @spidermanfan5 yes, he is blind.

  • @spidermanfan5 Also, he doesn't speak English. He can only sing it. And he plays a multitude of instruments.

  • @spidermanfan5 Yes indeed, I suspect God thought it to much to give him that voice with the ability to see our reactions.. Hence the humble and wonderful singer known as Andrea Bocelli

  • @Yappa101 I agree. He's very humble.

  • @spidermanfan5 ....Yes Andrea is blind...hasn't stopped from having a wonderful career

  • @sandicatt on the contrary, friend. has helped a lot.

  • @spidermanfan5 Lost his eyesight at 12.

  • @spidermanfan5 Are u thick or what?

  • @amberzang Are u blind or what?

  • @spidermanfan5 well he is not completely blind, he has lost his sight over time... like if you watch him in the 90s he often kept his eyes open as he was not as sensitive to light back then...

  • yes didnt you know?

  • :') OHHHHHHHH phantom!!!!!!!!!! <3

  • not a fan!!!

  • AMAZING BOCELLI WOW WOW WOW.......THE BEST!!!!!

  • Gorgeous!!!!!!

  • @ViktoriyaTaylor Yes! Mine too.. And among female singers Sarah Brightman.

  • I think it is safe to say Bocelli DOES have one of the better and most noble sounding voices of today. However, I would say that there ARE better singers. Remember, Bocelli started taking lessons in his very late years. Like, latter twenties to early thirties. He is definitely a born natural. :)

  • ALW is the best of all time. Thanks to him, all this beautiful music can be sung by such amazing artists.

  • This is absolutely mediocrity! There are much, much better singers than Bocelli.

I think a lot of people need new ears!

  • @nikodemus7777

Andrea Bocelli is an awesome singer - better than ANY other singer on this world. No one sings live.. everyone is lipsync... but Bocelli sings live...

  • @MrNinoful He sings live, that´s true. But not really good. That´s also true!

  • @MrNinoful And that he´s better than any other singer - I think this is a bad joke!

  • @nikodemus7777

He is one of the best. Not THE best but one of them. What is / are you're favourite singer?

  • @MrNinoful For the Phantom? Michael Crawford! He is absolutely the best!

  • @nikodemus7777

Okay, you're right - for the Phantom is he realy better :)

  • @nikodemus7777 um, i think YOU need new ears.

  • как красиво!!!!

  • @commander901 quit trolling!!

  • @twailertwash AMEN!

  • i wish he waz singing in italian. but he sounds magnificent..

  • Perfetto!!!

  • Это прекрасно! Спасибо большое!

  • Andrea, check the words first before you sing it.

  • @commander901 it's not his 1st language, cut him some slack, and he can't exactly read over his lyrics before he goes on stage can he ?

  • The most beautiful voice in the world. He sings from de heart. Bocelli, simply you are GREAT.

  • Ce musical Le Phantome d´Opéra est mon musical préféré. Merci beaucoup à Vous Andrea de l´avoir chanté. Merci, Bocellina, pour ce clip!

  • Did Erik Just Rise From the Grave to sing This Song? I mean WOW.

  • imagine Sarah Brightman and Andrea Bocelli singing Phantom of the Opera together? It would be amazing and perfect !!!!!

  • @Jenny1996Nah

    Eeeeew.

    Not Sarah Brightman!

Her voice is like breaking glass.

She only got the job b/c of her husband Andy.

  • I think this is the most beautiful voice of the world, isn'it ?

  • Comment removed

  • Amazing and perfect.

  • Molly, this one is for you...... I think you'll recognize the song.

  • Where was this video made, whose orchestra is this, who composed the song?
