  • a bloody impudent genius

  • best fucking artist ever!!

  • This is better than the album version. Amazing. Pity about the synch.

  • you know he is a badass when he can play and sing that song flawlessly and never lose the toothpick.

  • what guitar is it? O.O

  • @supermoserre Lou is playing a Stratocaster. But it might be a Fernandes Stratocaster copy or a G&L instead of an actual Fender Stratocaster...I can't see the headstock clearly.

  • New York is an awesome album and Lou is the man

  • synchronisatie sucks

  • is that rob wasserman on bass????

  • @timpani25 yessirree bob that is the most fine mr wasserman

  • @timpani25 Yes it is!

  • @timpani25 what a question

  • I've never heard this song, what album is this from?

  • @renaldomoonespecial The album is New York. If you think he ruins his own songs when he performs them, check out his covers. OH GOD.

  • i love this song too !!

  • Caught between the twisted stars/the plotted lines the faulty map

that brought Columbus to New York

Betwixt between the East and West/he calls on her wearing a leather vest

the earth squeals and shudders to a halt

    Sheer brilliance.

  • he was a musical poet good stuff

  • he never made this song rock live like it does on the album

  • great song and track-this one is really fucked

  • My favorite song!!! I <3 Luo!!! mmmmmmm

  • no idea what that song is talking about!

  • most underrated guitarist ever

  • tao me zuando com esse audio ridiculo fora de ponto.poste um video direito mané

  • I can't tell -- is the audio ahead of the video, or behind it?

Or does it switch from shot to shot?

Are they even doing the same song?

    .

    .

Not that I'm complaining, mind you; I'm just shutting my eyes and listening to the brilliance....

  • @smartalek1 the audio is behind, but I listen for the sounds, and not for the video so who cares? =D

    This is music, man! :)

  • "Her perfume burned his eyes / holding tightly to her thighs . . . "

    Superb.

  • one of my favorite Lou Reed songs

  • one of my favorite Loo Reed songs

  • the song is as timeless as the story. This man is,and has always been a class act,and his music is just as relevant now as it ever was, maybe more.LouReedFTW

  • The Latin is "Ad asperum aestimare fimi aliquid hodie"

  • @colleenboye thank you so much for the companion video - i enjoyed it very much.

  • @colleenboye He is allways better live personaly. He seems to care more...

  • @colleenboye

THANK YOU, Thank You, Thank You!!! I always wondered what was written on the little NYPD decals on the cop cars---now I know!!!

New York was Lou Reeds's finest Non VU LP. What is amazing is that he gave his sweet BRONX CHEER to NYC with only two guitars and a base!!! I qoute Lou Reed every chance I get "GIVE ME AN ISSUE and then GIVE ME A TISSUE and I WILL WIPE My ASS ON IT!!! Hey LOU, Chill out, Dude. What they do? Tow yer car AGAIN? Shoulda taken da subway!!!

  • The perfume burns his eyes. Holding tightly to her thighs....

  • an excellent one.

  • truly nice.

  • Loving that dude at the start.

    @rl7650048 Kravitz

  • HAMMER !!!

  • @PhatLewtznU so is dylan just talking. but how does that make it bad? isn't every single bit of rap just talking?

  • there really is such a thing as the coolest song in the world, and this is really it. no, really. lou reed is the julius caesar of punk.

  • best version

  • @pmpcorrea agreed. i love wasserman on stand up bass, the leaner less produced sound appeals to me more than the album version, chich i love as well. something very special about this though, in spite of the mangled editing (not mine). thank you for your comment.

  • Lou Reed wanted seinfeld's hair, seinfeld's hair wanted Lou reed.

  • @tappacappa

lucky girl that you are one of the few people who know about this genious music at the age of 15! it took me 22 years to discover it.... blame my parents!

  • POETRY IN ACTION

  • as far as I'm concerned, Lou Reed is God.

  • His brutal honesty brings tears to my eyes.

  • fantastic tunes

  • something flickered for a minute.........then it vanished and was gone

  • Oh Yes!

  • WOW...GREAT, and moving sexy singer....too much to take...thanks

  • I could kiss his eyes for this!

  • Lou is about the only guy I can listen to even when he's talking instead of singing.

  • audio e video fuori sincrono. prova a riproporzionare il video così da "allungarlo" in proporzione al video ;)

  • lou had 20,000 volts give the guy a break,

  • This is the real shit right here

  • Damn the music is so off from the video

  • @advancecassete tragic isn't it? i just close my eyes.

  • New York is one of my favorite Lou Reed albums. Love this song.

  • Rob Wassserman on the upright.....GREAT STUFF...HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!

  • you can take Manhattan in a garbage bag with Latin on it written that says 'it's hard to give a shit these days'. hell yeah. But what's up with the toothpick?

  • @brilmistake The toothpick is because Lou Reed is the coolest Mother Fucker on this Planet! Everything about him is smooth! I love him.

  • i love this album.

  • NIle Rodgers & Lou Reed, cool

  • what are the lyrics about? they are so strange....

  • rock on

  • this man is a weapon

  • Even if he makes a sweet sounding song there's still a small sharp knife in the cushion you're sitting on..!? :o)#

  • i guess it's more kinda rapping. it's unique. you have to try singing the first verses and then tell me if you find it easy to spit words at that speed

  • @diestel123 well if you call that commenting ...

  • you know you're a rock n roll legend when you can sing with a toothpick in your mouth

  • Is Lou signing with a toothpick in his mouth? Talk about mad skillz

  • I love this! Had this CD when it came out every song is great on there!

    Thanks for puuting it up.

He's so laid back in this seems like he found some peace after all the drugs and hard living.

  • toothpik llllllllll

  • Is that not, like, the actual album version dubbed on top of the video?

  • no, that is a live version from some vh1 broadcast. it does have a dubbing issue sadly, which is how it was when i found it. at one point, there was a longer version of it which i had seen, but some yokel edited it for length. bastards!

  • @fauxtaux so close your eyes and enjoy

  • @sharqi666 i do and often ... sometimes i do not even close my eyes

  • @incongra you dont wanna mess with, like, lou reed.. lOL errr

  • @TheThroney stay cool, big daddy-oh!

  • Tiene un palillo!!

  • her voice it was like a bell

  • his mputh looks funny. or maybe my computer is doing that. idk but it looks weird. he way its moving i mean.

  • he's got a toothpick dangling from his lip

  • new York New York ..........Lou Reed new York ,that s when my American dream began......And the worl is an halloween Parade every sight i take around ....

  • loverly, thanks for sharing... i felt the same way while living in san francisco throughout the 80s. i could just walk out the door and find something groovy. being a middle aged housewife just doesn't compare.

  • Being a middle aged housewife is tolerable when one can listen to this stuff, my most treasured possession is his Berlin album, the original vinyl one....sigh!

  • Whenever I feel really depressed, I put Berlin on, and it cheers me right up. :)

  • LOL @Timmybear

  • Lou always glares at his guitar players like they fucked up big time. All except Robbert Quine.

  • He did that too. In fact Quine was responsible for Reed becoming more than his "Coney Island Baby" persona and Reed basically discarded him sadly enough. Reed only plays guitar on his albums and on his tours today because Quine encouraged him to play leads and to revert to the great guitarist of the early Velvet Underground-era while they were preparing for "The Blue Mast" .

  • Lou Reed is the man. Love VU :D

  • I love the NY-record. One of his best. Great posting!

  • thank you, it's an all time fave of mine as well. i'm glad i could find this and get it posted for you. . . .

  • STREET POET! NOBODY TOUCHES LOU REED!

  • Lou Reed wanted Poetry and Poetry wanted Lou Reed

  • And someone wanked for a minute, and then flickered and was gone...

  • ♪♫ And Lou Reed had his Poetry

And Poetry had her Lou Reed ♫♪

  • Amazing.

    Under Kiyookan Skies.

  • Where can we ever get this version?

  • great

  • Pity that it is off-sync

  • such a style !!!

  • R&J forever....

  • lou reed is one of the greatest songwriters ever

  • Clearly, real good music does not need many instruments or a wide range of tones. Nor lyrics by all means, but that's another story.

  • "Something flickered for a minute,aw, then it fanished and was gone."

  • A beautiful line from one of the very few "rock" artists that can actually write good lyrics. Or stated in other words; now will never come again.

  • vanished*

  • Vanished, indeed- stupid error, sorry

  • a God of music. New York is one of the single greatest albums by anyone ever.

  • Loue Reed's one of the very few that enbodies Rock'Roll

  • very well put, and I think the song "Rock n Roll" sums that up just perfectly.

  • I remember seeing Lou play live in Manchester. A paper cup hit his arm so he stopped the set, told the audience off and only continued his encore when the audience agreed to behave. Bl**dy amazing. A real pro.

  • Is he lip synching? The audio and video tracks don't match up too well. Cmon' folks, the album version is fiercely better than this version, although Lou plays a few nifty leads.

  • Is there any way to have this version. It's just the greatest thing.

He takes his time with poetry here. Damn it, Lou!

    Where can I find this?!

  • What kind of bass guitar is that? It looks special and it has a lovely growl :o)#

  • singin with a toothpick in his mouth....lol.

    gotta love lou reed.

  • Lou Lou Lou fantastic

  • A diamond crucifix in his ear

is used to help ward off the fear

that he has left his soul in someone's rented car

And inside his pants he hides a mop

to clean the mess that he has dropped

into the life of lithesome Juliette Bell.

Why can't I write lyrics like this?

Perfect. And a great version. Thanks for putting it on.

  • pure poetry, isn't it? you are so welcome, i was glad to be able to track this down....faux

  • A true Rock Poet. :o)# And still doing his thing, I sincerely hope.

  • sterling morrison was a good guy

  • THE most underrated guitarist of the 20th Century in my opinion.
