Surprised you didn't review STRIKEHOLD. Best cleaner, solvent, metal conditioner, lube (dry) that exists today. You can run AR bolt dry after treating with STRIKEHOLD.
I too was amazed at this stuff, I use it for almost all my gun cleaning, I still occasionally use hoppes #9 solvent and bench rest oil, but I always wrap up clean up with a fresh coat of ballistol to protect againt rust/corrosion, this stuff is really second to none.
The true test, is to use this stuff on a AR15. And see if it can clean and lubricate effectively . Can it stand up to the heat of rapid fire? Can it lube for 2000 rounds? can it remove the carbon and crud build up? If ballistol can clean & lube the black rifle then it's a good product.
@RIPbiker13 Well that's pretty the same deal, M16 AR15. How about making a video, shooting with ballistol as the lubricant. Then cleaning with ballistol. I have not seen any videos where ballistol was used on these rifles. you would be the first.
First off what type of holster is that you use? You may have said it just didnt catch it and should you have to worry about Ballistol messing up your nightsights?
@edd217 What are you carrying? I carry a G26 in an IWB during "descent" weather and in a smartcarry when it gets hot with not probs, very comfortable. check them out. more comfortable then you'd think they are.
Ordered some Ballistol today from firehawktech - competitive pricing. Check out an interesting history of this oil/cleaner. There is a section about unusual uses that includes dippipng a shaving razor blade in some of this oil to significantly extend the razor's life.
@edd217 It all depends on the gun/holster combination. I have been carrying a gun in both my professional and personal life for over 10 years. To me, it's uncomfortable to NOT have it. There is a saying I heard, "Carrying a gun isn't supposed to be comfortable, it's supposed to be comforting." Some holsters are terribly uncomfortable, but the set-up I am using (as seen in this video) works fantastically well for me.
@seven47katana Is VA the only place were Ballistol is available at every Sporting Goods store and Police Supply? I notice EVERYONE has to order and wait for it.
@TheBAWBIS The ballistol works as a lubricant and in my use I have not found it to collect much dirt. That gun is carried 7 days a week so I clean it at least once a week wheather I shoot it or not. So far I have had no nagative effects from using this product on ANY part of the gun.
Also did know about putting Ballistol on leather. Been treating my Galco stuff for years now with the Galco cleaner. Might have to try it out on a test piece of leather.
I don't use Ballistol just because CLP does a better job and lubricating and protecting, and Kroil does a FAR better job at cleaning (compared to anything I've ever used).
Going to have to post a video response to this if you don't mind (a corrosion test).
@MegaGevehr Do it. I'm working on a test myself. I want to see what kind of products do to protect. And I had some random ideas too. I have yet to try kroil.
@NeverEnuffAmmo Unfortunately I can't seem to find it locally and nobody I've heard of has yet. But I posted the website in the description. That's the cheapest place I found it, and I shopped a lot. The shipping is fast too.
I bought the two exact same cans of Ballistol you feature on your video after watching Hickok45's video last year. Two things:
I could never, and I mean never, get the spray straw into the 6 oz can. I wound up breaking or bending the straw trying to get it in. What's the secret?
I also have the large 16 oz can, and I have no idea to do with it. It isn't an aeresol can as you mentioned, so how do you use the 16 oz version???
@brig2221 No secret to the straw expect patience. Get it in the first time you never have too much trouble again. ;-)
For the 16oz can I use a spray trigger, like on water sprayers and the like. Shoot it onto a rag, or just pour a little into a container and use it like any other solvent. I'd use small resealable containers for that so you don't contaminate the whole supply with dirty brushes.
I gotta switch out my Rem Oil and BreakFree for some Ballistol and Militec. But first I have to run out of what I got. Those respective cans have lasted me for months and will probably last for a year more. Yeah, I don't got much and I don't shoot much but there ya go.
@DemonHide I've never liked Rem Oil. It never stayed it place and it doesn't protect against rust. At least, not in my experience. Those bottles of Hoppes 9 I've had for over a decade, and they're still half full.
I was using break free for years until I used Rem Oil. Threw the break free away and never looked back. I also use Militec-1 products. I can't find Ballistol locally, when I do I will try it.
Datapoint: Ballistol is food safe.

I got Ballistol and I found that it doesnt really clean the bore as good as I'd like it, I prefer gun solvents on my bores.

As long as it cleans and lubes at the same time, and non-toxic, that all I care for. Oh it also disinfect my wounds. No kidding.
