Didn't see the funny side in the Doctor wanking (sic) over a pair of tits... I actually thought it was offensive.. don't even think that sort of comedy was actually very funny back then either.
Sweden did a ri-off of this show to called Albert and Herbert, they authors of Steptoe did some new material for it since they ran out of scripts to broadcast in the end
I`m now watching this episode for the 43 time. I know the jokes, the outcome, almost the whole script and still find it infinitely better to all the so called comedies on tv today.
who gives a fuck whether they hated eachother, who gives a fuck which way they swang? they were one of the greatest comedy duets of all time. and i dont think anybody can argue with that. long live steptoe and son =]
@finalfantac I won't argue with that, think lot of that was all blown up out of total preportion about their so called rift, but anyway like you say who cares, in my eyes there one of Britains best comedy double acts of all time.
What`s with the thumbs down for people stating facts here?
Is there still so much homophobia around that people don`t even like seeing the word? Or is it because people see their favourite actors somehow blemished?
@PhilipPorter youtube has a way bringing out the truth in people. however...an actor's sexuality is possibly the least important thing about him, or any person really. it's the TALENT we're here to enjoy, not the actor's private life. if that's what you're into, you should love the state of "celebrity culture" these days, which is nothing more than an excuse to snoop and be a voyeur.
@PhilipPorter Don`t be silly! It should be obvious that I couldn`t care less about his sexuality. That is why I am annoyed at people making an issue of it!
And another thing. I hate the culture of celebrity we have today. Fewer things are more abhorrent in my view!
as was joe meek the telstar man. police in the early 60s would hang around public toilets trying to entice anyone into engaging them just so they could nick them. that in itself is criminal. homosexuality was illegal in those days carrying a prison sentence - ridiculous. Loads of perfectly innocent homosexual men including Bramble had their names dragged through the press because of deliberate and systematic police persecution.
@jimmywires500 it's the opposite- it's well reported but inaccurate. there may have been some friction between them later on but it was blown out of proportion by the makers of the documentary on channel 4. galton and simpson said as much in an interview

@bunterx True, although it has to be said Joe Meek was a few hit records short of a singles chart, if you know what I mean.
