Sounds good. I just bought one of these as a combo deal, buy the guitar and they throw a Mandolin in free for $79.99. I was reading the feedback on this guitar at Musicians Friend, and a few people say what you say, you need to take the saddle out and file it a bit to get a good sound. I'm pretty much just learning guitar, until now, all I have had is Cigar Box Guitars, so kind of stoked to get a real guitar and if it sounds like that I will be pleased. LOL
@rh8807 you will not be disappointed at that price point for sure. you may find the mandolin "unplayable". the nut was so high on mine it changed the pitch of the note a few cents pressing down to fret a note. I had to sand nut down before even looking at bridge / saddle area. If you want guitar sound good you need to put a compensated saddle in not just sand it down. Sanding down the original saddle will only make action better but intonation will still suffer above 5th fret
I'm pleased that that is coming across and appreciate you seeing that. When I was younger and a bit more foolish, I mistakenly believed it was the tool and not the man. If I can direct a learning player (especially a younger one) to focus inward more and not be blinded by the "bling" I'm pleased by that. But that concept would be beneficial to all players. I can never be completely happy with my guitar playing because I don't do it for a living, but I'm at a point where I'm very satisfied.
The song is in DADGAD, so I'm a bit confused by your C# comment. I know a lot of them, but I'm not into "tunings". I can only read in standard tuning, so once I go "open" I rely on tab for the most part. I don't do "ear" as it takes to long. At that point I read the notation just to make sure the tab is right. It's all about getting the song done, so if you can get it done in another tuning go for it. A Capo helps when the ear get tried of a song.
Thanks for your reply. Regardless of the tuning, the song is being played in the key of C# (or Db), with the lowest string tuned to C# (Db). So, maybe it is tuned to DADGAD with all strings lowered 1 fret or one half-tone. Anyway, it is a good job of playing. I enjoyed it.
Are you saying the song is in the key of C# as in C# Ionian? The tuning is DADGAD, but yes I could be flat as I don't usually worried much about pitch as I play alone all the time. The only song I have to watch out for is Queenie's Watlz as the 6th is tuned down to C. I leave from "Standard E tuning" from proper pitch. I wish I understood what you were saying better. It sounds to me your are listening to my playing and trying to drop your 6th to C# and the guitar will not go (fret buzz?)
good point, but when if you are a good player, any guitar is a decent tool. Emphasis on the word tool, which is all the guitar is--it is secondary to the music being made, it is only the paintbrush not the artist.
There are many ways to look at this. 1. the guitar is a "cheapo" so why spend much on a case if at all. 2. buy a pretty good case and use it for your next guitar. 3. if you want to move around with it a bit maybe a "backpack" type would be cool.
If you don't plan on another guitar anytime soon spend around $50 or so for a "hard shell" case. Musicians friend online has a "Musicians Gear Deluxe Dreadnought Case"... Look it up.
I don't own a case for it. It never leaves the house.
Truss rods are not for adjusting action. Its job is to adjust the "relief" of neck. Anyway the major problem with the Rouge is not "action" it's the intonation. The saddle is not "B" compensated. The guitar is a horror otherwise, unless perhaps it's just used for "fun strumming" open chord and the like. As I said before; past the fourth or fifth fret the and guitar dies. This song here would not work otherwise. Before the comp job you could get away with a "queenie" at max(see that video)
I didn't know Pat Kirtley until see this video. I was wrong! :-)
As long as I can judge, it seems that you play him very well...
It's funny to hear DADGAD sounding well in another things that "celtic" songs.
It seems also that your work over the saddle is good: the guitar sounds in tune even in high positions. I have done same work on a Jasmine guitar, years ago, but with original saddle on it.
Did not buy comped saddle. A Washburn Rover I purchased came with an extra saddle ( comped of cause). A lot of sanding later and I got it to fix in. Had to sand shorter and thinner.
enjoyed your vid mucho....nice deal on the rogue.....your a man after my own heart.......its the playa not the conveya....most can't spend through the roof.kudos from goodsonbasinger.....good song bad singer
Just get a compensated saddle and keep sanding it down until it fits in the bridge slot. Lay sand paper on table and rub saddle on it. Just be careful not to sand too much off. Keep testing for fit as you work it
Buy a compensated saddle. It will fix the intonation problem, but you need to get it to fit in the slot. The slot will -most likely - be thinner then the new comp saddle. you are looking at it in one dimension (action only top/bottom) I'm telling you side also may need reduced - i.e., too fat for the slot
thought I would have a bit more time before the wife and kids got back from walking the dog - he remembered to keep quiet anyway, but just in case I reminded him the video was recording.

how much was the saddle?

Well, I can't seem to get that low C# on my guitar. It only goes down to E. So, I can't learn this song.

Wow, excellent playing. You should upgrade to a guitar that matches your playing caliber, like a Martin or Gibson or something, though.

at 1:40 i thought you were just in the moment...
nice playing...
do you recommend i buy this guitar. its under $100... dont really wanna spend alot.
2Luke 3 years ago
Yes I do, but only if you
1. can do your own saddle work. The guitar needs a comped saddle.
OR
2 you don't play above the fourth or fifth fret.
tuikun02 3 years ago
yes i can buy the compensated saddle, and sand it if needed.
why not just adjust the truss rod instead for better action?
thanks.

is that guitar tuned to the A or B?
BrosincoZ 3 years ago
A or B? I don't understand what you are saying. The guitar at concert pitch and tuned DADGAD. I hope this helps

I mean the saddle work. How hard is it to fix it?. Thanks

But you do that when you have to adjust the action. I mean the intonation problem. Or is it fix both?.

Sorry, I don't understand your second sentence. What are you trying to say? If you need some tips on doing the saddle work let me know.

Hi, i'm thinking to buy this guitar too. The thing with the saddle is too hard to fix it in case i could have the same problem?. Thanks
