All I can say is WOW! So far American shelters I have seen are more like death camps or hellholes, not even to mention gassing and heartstick facilities. This video shows what shelters are supposed to be. Great job, congratulations!!!

This is a WONDERFUL shelter- I wish every shelter in the country was like this. There are far too many animal concentration camps and killing fields that pose as shelters throughout the US, and the communities that house them should be DEEPLY ASHAMED! My pets came from shelters: 2 of them are purebreds, the Balinese being a somewhat harder to find breed of cat. Shelters save lives.

What an amazing SHELTER! :) I post for dogs in NYACC and they all get ill with kennel cough/cold in a matter of days and usually end up dead within a day or 2 of that! This place in Washington NEEDS to get the message across to the NYACC... The WASH shelter decreasing 90% of airborne diseases! WOW!!!

its a great job. but I think there is a scope for LOT of imprvement. Please visit the VSPCA shelter in INdia to understand how they have reduced cost to be more effective by generating their own electricity and several other such projects which help to use the donators money to help more animals.. The way the Washington Animal Rescue League is run is exactly how every animal shelter in every city/county in every state should be run. I think Executive Director Scotlund Haisley should be appointed to the highest position possible so he could make sure every state made the necessary changes to every animal shelter to operate exactly like the one in Washington, D.C.

I think it's a shame that several people go to breeders instead of visiting an animal shelter. There are way too many perfectly good pet animals in shelters and they are in desperate need of a warm home, why would you encourage the birth of new animals when there are already so many animals without a nice owner? No offense to people who went to a breeder, but please try to give these gorgeous animals a chance as well.

@Kzinix Have you seen the videos about the Beagle Rescues? The animal research facilities pay breeders $750 PER PUPPY for beagles to be kept in cages and used to experiment on. After 3-4 years, they are put down because they're no longer useful. As long as these places are allowed to pay breeders, there will always be ruthless breeders with no conscience. Not really what we're talking about here, but I just found this out tonight and am upset about it.

My dog is in this video at minute mark 3:35 and also at 8:07 (the pretty lab mix to the right). As she snores and sleeps next to me on the couch right now, I am teary-eyed as I watch this video.

This place is heaven on Earth for homeless dogs and cats. My dog was there nearly A YEAR before we met her and adopted her. In most shelters she would have been euthanized after a matter of days or weeks.

I am so grateful to WARL. They are in my will and I am a monthly donor. Please donate! ;-)

I hope all shelters can try to be like this place. My sister took her pitbull to get nuetured at a local shelter close to where we live, and he came home with kennel cough! So he basically had to take vitamins, antibiotics, a cone around his head to prevent him from licking his surgical inscision. He's better now but we were like sheeshe, poor dog!

@WebkinzRockerGirl . go to Battersea in England. Battersea Dogs and Cats Home. They have probably the best place for the dogs. It is a very big shelter and the kennels are really big. as big as horse stables! much bigger than here. not saying there is bad it is good but BHCAD is amazing

Everything Washington do here Battersea also do. and everything is like glass and it looks real nice- the kennels are much bigger than there. They also have heated floors, amazing vets, play areas for cats and dogs. in Battersea cats are allowed also to run free. the whole building has a carbon fiber out lay so it can't get hot. it is amazing. overall a cost of 202 million pounds. about 400 million u.s dollar ( a bit more)

My dog Shelly is in there twice - I freaked when I saw her! They are such an amazing place. I've never really been involved in animal causes but the WARL had drawn me in. They are INCREDIBLE. I'd be lost without Shelly and without WARL she'd never have been around had she been anywhere else. Give them some money, even $5 helps or get a pet from them! Places like WARL will help eliminate cruelty like Michael Vick's.

God Bless Ya'll. I wish the St.Bernard and St.John parish animal shelters in Louisiana would take lessons from ya'll. So many of the shelters in Louisiana are horrible and are so quick to put them down. I know this for fact. The Lafayette shelter puts dogs down on Thur & Monday. So if one comes on Fri it's down on Mon. It's awful. Ya'll place is unbelieveable and beautiful.
