The late show was the best- back when "vintage clothes" were still "used clothes". I met John Belushi there, and Thai Styx autographed my Heartbreakers at Max's record. Later in that interview Jerry N said that McClaren had sneered at the Dolls for using the safety pins whilst on tour in England, but "the Dolls are where (he) got the whole idea for the Sex Pistols. He was a hanger on then. He did have a sense of fashion, that's the only thing I liked about him".
Found the story- my mistake-Village Voice R&R quarterly July 1991. "We had a friend who owned a second-hand clothing store who used to give us clothes. His name was Frenchy and he became our valet. We took him all over the world with us, because he knew how to iron, he knew how to sew.We were always in a pinch, and if Frenchy did not have enough time to sew before a gig, he would put our clothes together with a safety pin. We were rough on our clothes, they ripped all the time"
we all know what heavy drugs lead to..see you on the street at 2 am btw how are you payin for your rent? it's a fantasy. in the 70s you could get away with it, now in this yuppie neo fascist world you up for a bump. know wat i mean?
Jerry Nolan was the seamster for the Dolls. He originated the safety pin chic of punk inadvertently when he got tired of having to stitch up everyones clothes after every show
Jerry was an awesome rock drummer. Little known fact: Jerry Nolan was the best man at Peter Criss' wedding in January, 1970. They were close friends when they were younger.
what the fuck do you mean its BS he's tellin them not to use because hes addicted and he doenst want anybody to go through the hell he was still goin through even at the time of that interview, he really did try to help others out too he reccommended his methadone clinic to sid and nancy
I used to go out with Jerry on and off in the early 70's, from about 1972 or 1973.What he's saying here is BS about telling people not to use.You can tell from the way he sounds,he lost some teeth. He didn't drink or use drugs when I knew him.I met him when he was about 23.
I met Jerry at Max's KC in '79 and all I could blabber was how I discovered rnr from his playing on the Don Kirshner show in '72.So real.

read the last interview with him in the Village Voice for his telling of the story. Don't argue with me, argue with Jerry.

Despite his drug issues, he should always be remembered as one hell of a rock n' roll drummer.

I just put up the entire thing in 2 parts, it's not quite as good quality as this but it's not bad either.

Fascinating. He pretty much says that they did their best work with the Dolls.
