They are looking for the perfect shot. You're asking a novice to be as perfect as what was shown in the movie. That's just unrealistic. And who give's a fuck about how well you can do. Be supportive and encourage the guy to do better. You sound very critical.

Scenes of this kind, no matter how you do it, because you do it once while you record and if it is good because they take the shot. But I think if what you are doing is to copy the scene from another actor, at least do it well, I said that physically have to look like Jim to do it, but if I could do the same gestures.
