Cantonese songs are not sung as spoken. Hence, don't beat yourself to death if you cannot understand it. For example, "joi jeh ngoi hoi" (in this ocean of love) will not be heard on the street! It is poetic and nice to listen to though.

@MsPizZa5678 Most people in China speak mandarin. To put in a different way, you can say it's the main dialect. There are other dialects though, like shanghainese and hakka, and of course canto.

In the north and the south west they speak forms of mandarin, in the extreme south they speak cantonese, around shanghai, Wu is spoken, and in Fujian, diferent forms of Min are spoken. There are many others. However, everyone in school learns to speak a standard form of mandarin in school. In Taiwan they speak a form of Hokkien chinese, but Mandarin is learned in schools too.

I'm trying to learn Cantonese. I have watched Cantonese film with Vietsub for nearly 6 years but I have ever never understood this beautiful language by myself. At the moment I cannot understand any word of this song but I believe that I can at the end of this month.
