Nice to see the Micro VR has a nice sizzly bottom end with fat low-mids. I just would like to know, can this amp pull off a decent B-15 kind of sound? I want something that can pull off an SVT and B-15 type of tone. I would save up for a PF500, but I only need something around 200 watts for what I'm doing these days. Thanks.
@theeuprise Depending on the stage volume (what is the guitar rig, does the drummer hit hard, etc) you will probably need PA support with a mic on the cab.
@theeuprise check into the PF-500 head with a PF-210HE cab. Next thing up in pricing that could handle it, I think. Or SVT-7PRO head and almost whatever cab, but that's another step up.
@ampegtv I'm sorry, I meant the amplifier (Micro-VR), there seems to be 2 versions of it: the one who is played at in this video (with an aux. input and phone on the right) and one without those two. (I'll send a PM, youtube doesnt allow me to paste an URL)
@SkateboardBassguitar Thanks for the link. That is an old picture that is still around. It was the original design, but never available. All Micro-VRs will have the Aux input and headphone. They will also have the red power switch as seen in the video and not the toggle switch. So, the video version is the production version. Sorry for the confusion!
Nice little amp. Just one thing: I think would be good if you covered more angles in your demos and reviews. ie. how does it sound with a pick? How does it behave with pedals (with more focus on overdrive and distortion, crucial on a non-tube head). I'm very interested in this head but I use a lot of different sounds other than finger picking or slap, like heavy overdriven ones, and I can't really decide if it's good for me or not. Thanks!
@BLONDUM hi there. the difference is that the BA600 is 600 watts rms (that's a lot), but it's CRAPPY AMP. i owned it once and failed after a week. do not buy that amp. so... the micro-vr might be the best choice.
Hello!! I run the head with one 210AV cabinet. My band is very loud so I have to go all the volume up and I get the Limiter light on every note I play. Does it damage the head? Thanks
ok it's probably bad to ask the official ampeg channel if i should buy a micro vr or a ashdown abm 500 because i really like ampegs but i'm afraid that thisone is a little to quite, i mean is it loud enough to play with a drummer?
I'm looking for a good portable bass amp (preferably with a head) that's inexpensive. This sounds like what I'm looking for, but would you recommend anything else along the same characteristics?
Will the Micro-VR be a lot louder than my Fender Rumble 60? I only play in my bedroom but I want something that will be really loud. If I buy an extra cab will it add more volume? Thanks.
@86tylertylertyler86 The Micro-VR will DESTROY the Rumble 60. You will want to set it on fire or give away once you get the Micro-VR. Adding a second cab will pull more power and some extra volume. I would go with one at first and check it out. My bassist uses it for rehearsal with full drums, guitars, vocals and stuff in my basement. Certainly loud enough.
I want to go check this one out at the store. I guess if the head can be used with two 8-ohm 2x10 cabs - which from the manual are rated 200W -, I take it it would be no problem to use it with one 2x10 plus one SVT-15E (also 8ohm, 200W rated)?
Hey Dino, thanks for the info. Amp sounds great and looks very portable, my only worry is it'll get lost live. Will the sound be able to compete with 2 les pauls and a loud drummer?
That's strange, when I try to use just the head, it does nothing unless I plug in the headphones. Can anyone help me with this because I need the head for School
@cheeseperson03 Since it's solid state, you can run the head without the cabinet. You can do that with headphones for practice, or use the DI out for live or recording without hooking up to a cab.
@CrankTheBass98 It is a direct out of the amp. Just hook up an XLR cable (mic cable) and you can send it up the sound engineer or you can use it to record.
@ampegtv thank you very much. i been thinking about investing one. my BA112 isntt cutting it wiht my guitarists' amps. im running a 50 watt against a hundred 100 watt fender and a randall halfstack. my only concern is losing my bright punch with low ends . i play in a punk band. will it give me that tone?
This is one of the only actual ampeg demos there are. The rest of the videos are just to talk about them. I want to hear more. If I want specs I can just read, or learn to read.
@hybridmcgee Yeah, a lot of the videos are older. As new products roll out, our videos will incorporate demos. Dino is working to get all our new products on video, then we can work on demoing some of the main line of gear. At this time, you can also get audio demos of our entire PRO NEO line with the SVT-7PRO. Just visit our channel.
I have a 70's B25B tube amp rated at 55 watts. It needs a 16 ohm speaker setup. Is there any way to set 2 of the SVT-210AV to be 16 ohms (without rewiring the whole things)?
@flamesfan011 you wouldn't have to re-wire the cabs, necessarily. You could build (or have someone build) a series patch box. This basically will let you plug in both 210 cabs, and you could get a 16ohm signal to plug into the B25B. Here's a page with all the details...a pretty simple job for someone with a soldering iron and a little experience. YouTube won't let me put a dang URL in here, so I will message you right now
The Micro VR and 210AV is a great little amp for a lot of situations and it is loud enough for basement jams and rehearsal rooms. I've been using mine with a second 210AV stacked on top of each other and it's been working well in my 7 piece horn band. Granted I have great PA support as well (all Mackie) but it's plenty loud enough to be heard on stage over all the horns, keys, drums and guitars.

@netmics Check out out the Ampeg Speaker Grill Removal video on our channel under "Tips and Tricks". It's the same process as the big boys. In fact, newer runs of the SVT-210AV will have little cloth tabs hanging in between the grill and cab to make it easier.

You CAN run a Micro VR into an 810 cab and it will sound pretty cool up to a certain point!!! I've done it in my in-store demos plenty of times. However, be VERY aware that you are grossly under powering that cabinet. The Micro VR is 200 watts @ 4 ohms and the 810 is looking for no less than about 800 watts. Be sure to have that limiter on and use your ears to know when the amp is at it's limit!!!! I won't take much to square wave that amp into that cabinet.
@oldschoolbcrich5 Is it possible or safe to run my Micro V R through a svt 8x10 using the 4 ohm speaker output jack as the svt 8x10 is 4 ohm's also ,thanx Mike
@modestvermin995 via a co-worker: "it was kinda raunchy in a cool way. never used a pedal, though. The cleans were really natural." He did say it was a very particular tone, so probably fairly subjective if you dig it or not. Any cool dealer should have no problem letting you plug a guitar in.
@agungkodok wow! glad you got that fixed! 2 cabs allows the Micro-VR head to deliver to its full potential. You will get a bit more volume and move a lot more air. It is the ideal setup for a Micro-VR head.
Hi first of all great job on the video.. I just ordered two of these cabs a couple weeks ago.. should be her any day.. YEAH!! Question for ya.. Have you guys made any changes recently cosmetically speaking? Specifically the grill cloth, some photos online look like there blue and others more black/white salt/pepper.. maybe it's just the photo quality that varies and the angle.. I'm hoping mine are blue... Either way these cabs are absolutely amazing..!!
Hey thanks.. yeah I can't wait!! And yes I ordered 2. A friend of mine has 2 of them which I've been using on gigs for the last month and I absolutely love em' They really do have that SVT 8x10 vibe which is exactly what I want tone wise. Still haven't decided on a head.. Looking @ the TC Electronic RH450..
i just received this amp with 2x 210av cabs few days ago. it looks impressive stacked on top like it is a full size stack. sounds impressive and i love it how it works in New Zealand with the simple voltage switch on the back.
Is it possible to get a 4 ohm version of the 210AV? I have an SVT-400T and a PR-1528HE and really like them. I'd like to use 2 210AVs with the 400T and get the 2x200 watts. That way I could carry my whole rig myself...and it would sound awesome.
@jaciedogg we would not be able to provide one. But, you could always change out the speakers to get the cabinet to the impedance you want. The current speakers are 4ohm each, wired in series to get 8ohms. You could get two 2ohm speakers and wire them in series to get a 4ohm load or, more likely, get two 8ohm speakers and wire in parallel to get a 4ohm load. So, a custom job, to say the least
One of the big differences between the B410HE and the 210AV is the 410HE has a horn so the B will sound a bit more "hi-fi". The 210 is essentially 1/4 of an 810 cab so it's going to sound closer to that.
You mentioned three completely different types of players there too. That's a tough one.
Lastly, the B being a 4x10 vs a 2x10 will have a bit more volume than the 210.
what would you reccomend this or a MICRO-CL Stack

Hi Attitude Castle,
One of the big differences between the B410HE and the 210AV is the 410HE has a horn so the B will sound a bit more "hi-fi". The 210 is essentially 1/4 of an 810 cab so it's going to sound closer to that.

Lastly, the B being a 4x10 vs a 2x10 will have a bit more volume than the 210.
Hope this helps!
