Ender wasn't the smartest. Bean was. Ender was the most effective because of other qualities like intuition, determination, and empathy. Have you read Enders Shadow yet.
@emailpobox666 I would agree except for two things. First during Enders game Jane did not exist. First there was the game, then the Queen bug added the life spark, followed by modified programming to handle Enders investments. The sense of self developed during Enders other travels.
Second Jane wasn't human. At the end of the Ender series she did acquire humanity but it cost her all the access she had to unlimited information. While Bean was genetically modified he was still human.
@stanparrish1 Yes she did as the psychological program in the war games, So she was human intelligence is intelligence. And you is to say that humanity is the ultimate goal
@emailpobox666 She had access to unlimited information. Access to information and knowing what to do with it are 2 different things. All that info and she was helpless when they began to shut her down. It took an innovative human mind to find a solution. This is what gives humanity the edge. True intelligence.
@emailpobox666 No doubt she was intelligent. She just wasn't intelligent enough to use all the data she had access to in a way that a really creative person could.
@stanparrish1 She altered reality almost achieving godhood. After she was dissed by Ender she became autonomous and needed no more direction. Hardly helpless. nd after she attained these powers was theoretically invincible ( though portrayed as dependent on the
@emailpobox666 She did take them to nowhere land but it was Ender that altered reality though his thoughts were somewhat undisciplined. Getting to nowhere land was impressive without the idea she would not have used the vast resources she had. She did become autonomous but not invincible.
@stanparrish1 She was a sentient being helping friends. You claim her intelligence is not sentientience? Like I said your opinion of human intelligence is oner rated. Humans by far are simple dreatures comparied to Jane
@emailpobox666 I never said she wasn't sentient. I never said she was not intelligent. I will say her access to data was man made and man controlled. Her creativity was limited to whatever was suggested to her or whatever references were available in her data bank. Her true sentience, intelligence, and creative nature were whatever she was able to take with her into the body of young Valentine at the end of the series.
@stanparrish1 What is the definition of intelligence you are using?"Her creativity was limited to whatever was suggested to her or whatever references were available in her data bank. " Isn't that also a limitation on human intelligence. Being in a biological body is not a requirement of intelligence
This book, Ender's Game, and John Steakley's work, Armor, are among the most-frequently-cited among our military sons and daughters; the ones charged with defending our liberty with their very lives. That being said, I give both works my utmost respect. What good is everything else in our lives if we are not free, after all.
Thank you soldiers!
Oh, and utmost DISrespect to the one who would take our liberty away, B. Obama. Who ever thought that the first black President would be a slaver :'(
i liked speaker for the dead better, altho i still regard enders game very highly...I just enjoyed the more philosophical undertones w/ the sequel and the whole irony of Ender the Zenocide and Ender the Speaker for the Dead. phenominal read.
I have not had the honor of reading all of the enders part of the series, I have read Enders Game, speaker for the dead, and all the bean series plus other novel in between. Speaker for the Dead was great, very sad but completely different than the first novel.
not trying to be mean but the book was a little overrated and not as creative. It had a very generic plot with the exception of a plot twist or two. But had no symbolism or inspiration.
Bean is smarter in some of the test taken before entering to battle school. And Ender scored higher then bean in other test. And yes Ender was a better leader, in the other books in the bean series they get more into the difference between the two.
Well I've only read the first two, and I remember something in "Ender's Shadow" saying that he scored the highest on all of the tests, except the ones having to do with physical endurance. Although... I could be wrong (It's been a while).
Yeah, bean was smarter. But he lacked the charisma that Ender had. That and Ender REALLY cared about people whereas bean cared... but not nearly as much as Ender. Also, I think it was worded something like "Ender truly understood a person and when you understand someone completely you love them". Something like that, again, it's been a while lol.
I know, bean could not understand what made Ender so popular with the other battle school kids. Until he found out that he actually wanted his approval just like everyone else. He understood then. If you want me to recommend any other ender series books, just give me a tap.
I read the first two in both the Bean books and the Ender books. I liked them, it's just that I got burned out by the third book in both. I really liked the whole concept of the battleschool, however, the earthside battles didn't captivate my attention quite as well. I'll probably read them all sometime.
@ShadowManiac2552 I dont really know if Bean could have won it. While Bean had a higher IQ he did not have the understanding of the Formics that Ender had. His choices of formations and how to go about it would have been different.

@stanparrish1 My friend you have way too much optimism with regard to the capacity of humans

@emailpobox666 I would not say optimistic. The capacity is endless but will it be for good or ill.

Bean is the smartest, but Ender was almost as smart and he was better at being a leader (e.g people respected Ender more than they did bean).

I agree that Bean is smarter, and in the third and fourth books of the Shadow Series, taller and stronger.
If Ender hadn't been there during the final battle with the Formics, then Bean could of won the war.
What I'm saying is that Bean is a GREAT commander, just not as GREAT as Ender Wiggin.
