It was Undercliff Sanitarium for people that had Tuberculosis and had to be kept away from the general population. I think it was built in the late 1800's. When they made penicillin it became a mental hospital for children so they would not be exposed to the adults. I got loose a few times and wandered the upper floors which were really creepy where the TB hospital was. Just everything falling apart. The place closed in the 80's and the kids there merged with Riverveiw Hospital to save money.

I was there in the late 70's. I was in Altobello for depression. Then I was in the detox for drinking for a few months and they let me work at the retardation center. I got adopted by a nurse at the retardation center and she was a drunk klepto that put me to work in a nursing home and took all my money. It didn't have all the fences when I was there. Only the first floor of Altobello was in use. It wasn't a bad place. It was a lot like the movie, "Girl Interrupted".

Even non-abandoned buildings are more than "just" a building. That's why people like to visit them sometime even if they are not supposed to be there and then there's homeless people looking for a place to stay where they hope nobody will come find and bother them.
Abandoned places usually are interesting and give off a creepy vibe from the fact of nobody taking proper care of them anymore....one doesn't even need to insist there's something paranormal going on there as they are creepy enough just existing.
well u never know before we moved there in the 70s it had very sick children who lots of them died way back in errly 1900s so it chould have sprits of children in there i odnt remember hearing anything but other kids said they have heard funnt sounds and noices at night

There are no houses near the property, so no residents have reported any noises from there. The only thing close to the facility (as mentioned at the end of the video) is a Target (which has recently shut down) and a large mall (Westfield Mall) and a highway. The closest occupied house to the facility is about 1.5 miles away.
Oh yeah, and because the state owns it, you will be trespassing if you go there...and there are plans in the works to recover the property for further use in the very near future (hence the construction)
That place is an old school for the mentally retarded and brain damaged. Mostly children lived there at the time, but there were some adults that grew up there and never moved out. It was a state run hospice, and is not reported to be haunted.

my and my friends went to this place last year at night we heard screams of something up near the school sounding like something or someone was getting tortured or killed it was crazy . we tried getting into the building with the 30 ft fence around it but it was impenetrable and then we would see cars go up only at night time and had a guard watch the front entrance, we had to go through target where there was a hole in the fence we got all the way up to the top and went in the abandoned house

Yes, that is a pool that you see, and it was there when I visited. In the basement of that building were rooms that had iron gates for doors, not really sure what they were for, but it sure added to the creep factor. We took a wheelchair with us that night and used to roll around in it at my buddy's house where it probably still resides. I have since learned that the bldg burned soon after I visited, probably a good thing. closed.
Beds, chairs, just about everthing left behind,,it looked as though people had just gotten up and left 20 or 30 years prior. All of the contents were dated and the paint was pealing off the walls i huge flakes, rather disturbing sight.
the road you drive up at 7:20 used to lead to a 3 or 4 story brick bldg similar to the fenced bldg. It was abandon when I visited it in the mid-80's. The inside was still furnished and had many personal items left behind. We went thru the bldg at night with flashlights, there was easy access and looked like homeless may have been sleeping there. The place had a piano upstairs as I recall and many old wheelchairs strewn about,,many of which were small (children).
Don't get me wrong i'm sure it was scary as hell being there but to me it just looks just like another building.. The fences probably kept the visitors out from their so they don't get sick as well.. Just my opinion
It used to be a insane asylum where many people died. I been in there before at night and it was insane. you can sneak onto the roof. We did not see any ghosts or anything but the inside is trashed.There are holes in the walls and lights ripped down. People have spray painted all in it and every room is covered by papers and ripped down walls. The morgue is also in the basement and it is completely flooded. Its actually mad creepy at night

This place has a bad history cause they had brought children here to die when it first opened. Many had died. It was a sanitarium rather then an institution to begin with. While it was a mental institution facility, there was a few murders committed by a patience who killed other patience. The place is notorious to be haunted and very eerie.
No, it was a sanatorium place, and the children were expected to die because they had measles and diseases, all that stuff... so they were brought the children there to die, in those buildings. Near by there was a School for Boys that held boys that had bad behavior, and some of them died at the school and were buried in unmarked graves because no one wanted them, which is where the hospital is now in Meriden.

Even non-abandoned buildings are more than "just" a building. That's why people like to visit them sometime even if they are not supposed to be there and then there's homeless people looking for a place to stay where they hope nobody will come find and bother them.

u missed a part there part of it -THE MAIN BUILDING-REOPENED in late 70s as ALTOBELLO CHILDREN AND YOUTH CENTER the building did close for good in the 90s and ALTOBELLO merged over to RIVERVIEW HOSPITAL FOR CHILDREN AND YOUTH as for the building its been and most likey be closed for good now the reason i know this 1 i was there as a kid myself when it reopened we moved from CVH RUSSLLE HALL it was for kids 13 and up back then but now rvh keeps them till 18 correcting that it was 14 and up

There are no houses near the property, so no residents have reported any noises from there. The only thing close to the facility (as mentioned at the end of the video) is a Target (which has recently shut down) and a large mall (Westfield Mall) and a highway. The closest occupied house to the facility is about 1.5 miles away.

That place is an old school for the mentally retarded and brain damaged. Mostly children lived there at the time, but there were some adults that grew up there and never moved out. It was a state run hospice, and is not reported to be haunted.

my and my friends went to this place last year at night we heard screams of something up near the school sounding like something or someone was getting tortured or killed it was crazy . we tried getting into the building with the 30 ft fence around it but it was impenetrable and then we would see cars go up only at night time and had a guard watch the front entrance, we had to go through target where there was a hole in the fence we got all the way up to the top and went in the abandoned house

Yes, that is a pool that you see, and it was there when I visited. In the basement of that building were rooms that had iron gates for doors, not really sure what they were for, but it sure added to the creep factor. We took a wheelchair with us that night and used to roll around in it at my buddy's house where it probably still resides. I have since learned that the bldg burned soon after I visited, probably a good thing. closed.

the road you drive up at 7:20 used to lead to a 3 or 4 story brick bldg similar to the fenced bldg. It was abandon when I visited it in the mid-80's. The inside was still furnished and had many personal items left behind. We went thru the bldg at night with flashlights, there was easy access and looked like homeless may have been sleeping there. The place had a piano upstairs as I recall and many old wheelchairs strewn about,,many of which were small (children).

It used to be a insane asylum where many people died. I been in there before at night and it was insane. you can sneak onto the roof. We did not see any ghosts or anything but the inside is trashed.There are holes in the walls and lights ripped down. People have spray painted all in it and every room is covered by papers and ripped down walls. The morgue is also in the basement and it is completely flooded. Its actually mad creepy at night

I walked around this place today and it was totally creepy. I walked by the fenced in "life guard chair" area all the way to the basketball court and to the building with the 20ft fence which is called Cliff's Cottage. You don't even wanna know what I saw (and heard) in the woods!

we have a old insane alylum near my house, and my friend's mom's friend told us that it is somewhat torn down, and there are houses built on some of where it used to be, and when she drove by there one time, people had put drawings and symbols on thier doors to keep spirits away. and part of the reason they tore it down was because it was scaring people around it

This place has a bad history cause they had brought children here to die when it first opened. Many had died. It was a sanitarium rather then an institution to begin with. While it was a mental institution facility, there was a few murders committed by a patience who killed other patience. The place is notorious to be haunted and very eerie.

No, it was a sanatorium place, and the children were expected to die because they had measles and diseases, all that stuff... so they were brought the children there to die, in those buildings. Near by there was a School for Boys that held boys that had bad behavior, and some of them died at the school and were buried in unmarked graves because no one wanted them, which is where the hospital is now in Meriden.
