Psychology and Sociology conducting these types of investigations/experiments have made me wonder if 'impartial' or 'clinical objectivity 'could be demonstrated in these activities? How effective would 'self-liberated' soldiers, police officers or prison guards would be in their respective employments? Do Doctors or health care providers or parents become 'effective' person if 'transformations' occur?What happens to these individuals in 5,10 or 20 years? How do you correlate data to this end?

Monastic life is older than Catholicism and embraces celibacy as a form of channelling energy for the purpose of deep, intense meditations that, if done properly, give the seeker profound experiences and insights not available to people dissipating their energy thru ordinary human channels. Sadly, many monasteries did not promote teachings to channel the energy properly. Many modern religious communities are remedying that lack, but it does not mean there is no value in celebacy.

i consider homosexuality to be a perversion, however that is a controversial statement, not everyone agrees, but for you to deny that pedophilia is a perversion is worrying. if you look at what occurs in prisons, you get men entering prison straight, forming homosexual relationships and then leaving straight again. they were not born gay, they turned gay due to sexual repression. the same occurs when celibate priests are around children too long. these perversions are from repression.

to be honest i only have a problem with celibacy when people follow it religously as catholics do, not when those who want to experience mysticism and energy undertake it. the distinction between the two is simply one is pretty much forced into celibacy leading to problems whereas the latter is on a spiritual journey but feels no compulsion to continue celibacy when it becomes difficult.

I understand & respect your thoughts. However, celibacy is most difficult at the beginning of mystical training, when the aspirant first enters the ashram or monastery. If they are getting the right training and are catching on (and there is never a guarantee of enlightenment), celibacy becomes easier because the energy has been channelled to the higher chakras. Catholic religious r free to leave @ any time. Some pervs hide behind the cloth, and not all spiritual teachers r legit.

The kind of person who would molest a kid but be afraid to leave due to peer pressure is not a person who is just acting out sexually because he feels unwillingly restrained from "normal" (hetero/adult) sex. It is a sick person who would still be sick even outside the order. In marriage, many sexual "deviants" also feel obligated to pretend to be "faithful" while they act out on the side. I don't think monastic life can be implicated with creating deviance by forcing celibacy.
