I remember the first time I heard of him was on one of those Bugs Bunny Cartoons where they made parodies of Hollywood stars. He always had giant eyes and was clapping his hands and mincing around.
Eddie was a remarkable man. Along with his big talent was an even bigger heart. Not many people know he started the march of dimes. Like one user said, we sure could use him now.
Happy Birthday to one of the funniest people in the entertainment world ,You left very good advice for everyone to laugh their way through the toughest times in life. Rest in Peace EDDIE CANTOR 31/1/1892 TO 10/10/1964
Eddie Cantor was a very funny entertainer through his music he is telling everyone to laugh their way through life no matter what is happening in life, Thanks for your laughter through your movies, and for this positive song. Rest in Peace Mr. Eddie Cantor
I know that "syndicated television show" quite well ('The Eddie Cantor Comedy Theatre"), which was shot at Ziv Studios, because my late father, Stuart Jerome, was one of the writers! In fact, I remember Dad telling me about bringing my grandfather, songwriter M.K.Jerome down to the set one day and he and Mr. Cantor had a reunion). My grandparents' had been neighbor's of the Cantor's in Long Island in the 20's. I don't remember him as an active performer as a child, but if you say so, okay. R.J.
I am so glad,n't that I am not part of the "younger generation" they think this stuff is hokey, I think it's great. As my father would say, "they don't make em like they used to"!
I nearly did a "spit-take" with my coffee over the reaction of the two-tramps (Stanley Fields & Warren Hymer) in the box-car, watching this "nut"! Priceless! It's a rather melancholy thought, but when I was a little-boy, this would be on at 1 in the morning here in L.A., on a late-movie called "Classic Theatre", and Eddie Cantor, who was then alive but a recluse, and I understand very-sick, and living just a few-blocks away from us in Beverly Hills, was probably up-too, watching this! R.J.
Eddie Cantor was never a "recluse" he had a syndicated tv show on which he collapsed and later died! He was active and still performing up until his unfortunate heart attack!
I didn't like the philosophy in this song at first, but his spirit just captures you! It's truly one of Eddie's best; almost as good as "Vote for Honest Abe"!
Sure, he threw himself off the train, but you could tell the hobos wanted to push him anyway.

I always love Eddie Cantor (well, maybe not the blackface stuff so much). He was such a lovable goofball, do people see how very handsome he was?
