  • @rockybalboa101 no problem

  • now i know why the taking of pelham 123 was noisy compared to other blu rays.....

  • @DarthMuse I haven't seen that one on blu-ray, just on dvd. Did they not put any work into it?

  • @rockybalboa101 it does have lots of artifact nosie seems to me that MGM movies might be like this because i watched heaps of other movies like Spiderman all 3 on blu ray and LOTR and they look so smooth.

  • @DarthMuse Hmm. Rocky 1 and Rocky Balboa looked fantastic. Rocky II-V were the ones that had no clean up. I think MGM takes short cuts on some of there movies. I don't have any of the Spidermans or LOTR's movies on blu-ray yet.

  • The so-called "dust" is film grain. It is supposed to be there. That is what makes up the picture. "Cleaning" it up actually lowers the picture quality.

  • @Chris82bcThe film grain is there because of the "film quality" back in those days. Rocky 1 has no grain because they cleaned it up for blu-ray. They did not clean up Rocky II and some of the other films, hense why the grain is still there, and hense why I said in the review that mgm didn't spend anytime cleaning up the sequels. Rocky 1 looks the best it has ever looked on any release to date.

  • @Chris82bc (continued) Why would Rocky II have grain, but not Rocky 1 which came out 3 years earlier? Because mgm spent time cleaning Rocky 1 up. I understand that some people like the way movies looked originally, and that is there opinion. You saying "cleaning it up actually lowers the picture quality" is an opinion. I disagree. Look how good some of the older movies look on blu-ray (Wizard of Oz, Star Wars, etc). Rocky Balboa looks awesome on blu-ray. Rocky II-V are ignored.

  • my family now have an 3d tv and blu -ray player which is so awesome but we need more dvds for it i might tell them to buy the rocky blu-ray collection and we have the normal collection but is this a good buy dan thanks

  • @solidvercetti No problem Josh. I don't think I know anyone with a 3d TV!

  • first blue ray i am gonna get is this once i get a good tv

  • @AKking27 A great idea for sure!

  • I really don't know what to do, I mean to buy it or not. Anyway, great review mate, thanks.

  • @lucasl86 Thanks Lucas.

  • well done, thanks

  • @souljainlisted No problem. :)

  • With that being said, they should give us more special features. It is not worthy of they "UNDISPUTED"

  • @MudbloodWizard I totally agree.

  • I like dust on dvds and blu ray. They just feel more old and i love old stuff.

  • On sale for $20 on Amazon right now. Great deal. Great review BTW!

  • @gretschdrummer100 Wow, that's a steal!! And thanks for the comment!

  • Pity the UK packaging is so crap but all great films and really look fantastic on blu-ray

  • @NUTTER1234567890123 Thanks for commenting!

  • I own this Blu ray box set, and it's pretty good you know. Even on a 19" HD Ready 720p TV is still pretty crisp and impressive. Bit of film grain at times, but that is not really a bad thing for me, it tends to add to the sharp and crispness really.

  • @31cify Thanks for commenting! :)

  • Oh, no probs mate. Didn't think anyone was really gonna' respond to it, but yes, this is a crackin' set. I know some people have done it down, but I mean, I can't see this set really being replaced by another set any time soon really. As I say you know, even on a 720p TV, it's still more pleasing to look at than anything we would have had before.

  • @31cify My biggest issue with all of the Rocky sets is the lack of special features. I have seen PLENTY of behind the scenes stuff here on youtube and what not, but mgm must not care to put some awesome stuff toward Rocky II through V. By the way, have you seen the Directors cut of Rocky V?

  • I havn't seen the Director's cut of Rocky V no, and the game on the bonus disc is something that you'd really only bother with once. Yes though, there should have been more extras like the making of Rocky 2, 3, 4, and 5, but who knows, maybe the studio, MGM, think that most people really only want to watch the movies rather than every bit of detail into the making of every film in the series. They obviously felt that what they put on the bonus disc was quite sufficient for most people.

  • @31cify I agree with you on the bonus game. But the whole point of putting out more than one copy of a movie is for something new in my opinion. This is at least the 4th Rocky boxset. Why release the same stuff over and over again without adding anything new? It just seems lazy to me. Of course, mgm went bankrupt awhile ago, so maybe that is why. You should give Rocky V DC a try. You can watch it online. :)

  • Yep, I've just had a look at it, and it seems odd to look at doesn't it? A lot of people don't like looking at Director's Cuts, but I find them quite interesting, obviously you do to. Sometimes though, you can see why some things are left out of final cuts.

  • @31cify I really liked the DC of Rocky V. With the exception of a couple bad scenes, I actually prefer the DC. The end fight is better, and Rocky acts more appropriately during it. I also like the added scenes with Adrian and Robert. They gave the movie more character depth.

  • @TheGeorginaStokes It's ok. I show the game in another video. Check it out on my channel. :)

  • @TheGeorginaStokes If you want to own the movies with the best picture quality possible, then you should get the blu-ray set. It also comes with an interactive game. But no new special features. If you don't really care about the picture quality, you could skip it. :)

  • Dan , i will take the rocky challenge and watch every movie in one night im doing it from 1 to 11 im only a kid

  • @mcdom89 Awesome! I did that back in 1996. :)

  • Rocky V gets too much jip. Glad you didn't jump on the hateful bandwagon. Still, it needs a director's cut or something...

  • @whitechocandy I agree. Have you seen the producers cut of Rocky V? With the exception of a couple of scenes, it is way better than the theatrical Rocky V (which I still like regardless.

  • Comment removed

  • I saw the deleted scenes on YouTube before they got taken down. I didn't like all the scenes (especially the extended one of Mickey embedded within the fight at the end, which saw him saying "beat the shit out of him" to Rocky). Still, I would like to watch the "full" version. Where did you watch it, mate?

  • @whitechocandy You can watch it online for free! I will pm you the link. :)

The Mickey scene you referred to and another scene with Rocky drunk (it is the worst scene ever, and thank God it was removed) are scenes that I'm glad were removed. But there are MANY alternate scenes that make the producers cut, MORE like a Rocky movie. The Rocky/Adrain and Rocky/Robert character development is extended and a lot better. The end fight is WAY more how it should have been. Watch the WHOLE movie. :)

  • this is an excellent review man i wanna see special features for rocky 2-5, i couldnt agree more

  • @drffrd1 Thanks for the great comment! :)

  • i wanna see the uncut version of Rocky 5 make it into to a boxset!

  • @Makle84 The Rocky V uncut version is really good! I have a copy of it myself. :)

  • Rocky 1-3 need restorations and all new transfers. The series overall received disappointing blu-ray transfers. Gone With The Wind, a 1939 movie looks much better than Rocky's 1-5. I want all new, better transfers for the movies, but that will likely not happen.

  • @rockybalboa101 @rockybalboa101

Well, each one got better and better. Thankfully from Rocky 2 onwards, the AVC codec was used a consistent bitrate in the low 30's and it certainly is a noticeable improvement over Rocky 1. There is still noticeable print damage in rocky 2 as well. Rocky 3-5 look decent enough taking into consideration the age and source material, but the classic rocky's for me top out at a 7/10 for pq with Rocky 4 and Rocky 5.

  • @highwaysonyfan87 Sounds like you know your stuff! I thought Rocky II looked the worst. And Rocky V seemed to take a slight step back from Rocky IV in my opinion. But regardless, you are right that the transfers were disappointing and need to be re-done which won't happen.

  • Rocky 1 looks terrible on blu-ray. It is the best it's ever looked on home video, but it still looks mediocre. It's very soft in most shots, and has quite a bit of print damage. It also uses the outdated MPEG-2 Compression codec, and with a lower bitrate than the rest of the movies.

  • @highwaysonyfan87 Out of curiousity, how did you think Rocky 2 through 5 looked?

  • @rockybalboa101 do you like rocky?

  • @mcdom89 um....yes!

  • @NoFair0nez Sorry, no. I won't be selling any of my Rocky stuff for a long time. :)

  • I got this on Easter and watched all 6 movies. Not the biggest fan of Rocky 5 but the rest of them are great! I like Rocky 2 and 3 the best which is your favorite?

  • @Mrjaketheretard Thanks for the comment! Rocky 1 is definitely my favorite. Rocky 2 and Rocky Balboa are my next favorites. :)

  • i got a dvd version of this box set, except it didn't have a bonus disc and the dvd's were all just like the one-disc versions. They each had their own boxes, and i got the whole thing, new, for £10! What a bargain for six great films

  • @Ca11meron Awesome buddy! Glad you got a bargain on them. :)

  • wow, that's a huge collection right there!! Sweet! ^_-

  • @PrincessRaizo Thank you much! :)

  • @rockybalboa101 anytime!!

  • great review and great dvd collection got my the other day just need to play the game that comes with it from your review you said it waz good so look faward to playing it

  • @jim70041 Thanks Jim! The game is good, but after about 30 minutes you'll probably be done with it. At least for awhile anyway. :)

  • sweet i need to get this set!

  • @GameCollectorRob "DO EET NOW!" haha

  • You got cut off at the end too.

  • @hockscape Yeah, I did that on purpose. I stumbled all over my words and forgot about it until I was editing the video. So I cut myself off, lol!

  • Nice dude!

  • @hockscape Thanks!

  • I mos def have to buy this. Awesome bro.

  • @MrPunisher2012 Thanks Louis. Good to hear form you!

  • great review!! gonna get the box set when i get my New tv

  • @AKking27 Awesome! Thanks for commenting.

  • MGM bankruptcy is delaying lots of projects, including Stargate direct to video productions. :(

The good news is Warner Bros is saving millions, not having to pay Charlie Sheen, for a while. According to reviews on Amazon, their Tango & Cash Blu-ray, video quality is "razor sharp" and "amazing". Finally a company that knows how to prioritize. :)

  • @briang9581 Yeah, Charlie Sheen is crazy, lol. I'm glad WB didn't cave in to him. I will be reviewing Tango and Cash sooner or later on blu-ray. Thanks for the comment Brian.

  • yo dan nice review man i also love the artwork of the dvd.

  • @solidvercetti Thanks Solid. :)

  • Dan - Glad you said what all of us feel about 2 - 5...No respect from MGM, or as I call them - Must Get More (of our money for nothing). Thanks for the review. I'm holding out another year before I buy....what Ia lready have.

    You Da man Dan!

  • @adnuk68 Thanks Mike. I honestly can't think of any other reason for MGM to hold out on making a COMPLETE Rocky set other than trying to milk everything they can out of this series with re-releases.

  • All im gonna say Dan, is that I agree with everything you said here!

  • @eccentricness81 Thanks Gino! Good to hear from you buddy. :)

  • Holy! That Blu-ray looks so good. Lucky! As for the movies, well, they're amazing. So I should probably get this collection. If I can find it, probably not.

  • @TheMovieBuffGuy Thanks Ryan. I know Walmart carries it for $40 dollars. Not sure if that helps.

  • That's an awesome set, Dan. I would love to buy that set myself. One of the greatest movie series in hi-def plus a bonus disc! What more could you ask for! I also like the cover art too. I also really like your discussion on digital projection. Great video, my friend.

  • @Moviefan7359 Thanks Josh! I wasn't sure on when digital projectors took over, but I can remember seeing them for the first time. It was so clean looking. I was amazed.

  • Good stuff.

Since I had this set long before you, there's really nothing here that I didn't already know. Good review though.

  • @TylerCharlesFisher Glad to hear from you Tyler! It's been awhile. You're usually really good about posting comments, but I didn't hear from you on the last few videos I put up. I was hoping you weren't dead, lol. :D

  • ROCKY needs a remastering like what they did to The Godfather

  • @GrayWoIf Well, Rocky 1 looks perfect. It's Rocky II through V that need some clean up. :)

  • I need to get this considering...I don't have any of the Rocky movies on DVD. Don't hate me! Lol.

  • @MovieGamerChick1920 WHAT!?!? I'm sorry, but we cannot be friends anymore, lol. ;-D

  • @rockybalboa101

I know, it sucks! They are very hard to find here though. :/

  • @MovieGamerChick1920 That does suck Nikki. Just visit my channel if you need a Rocky fix. ;)

  • Good review Dan. Had a question. Not this set but the regular dvd Rocky set. It's been awhile since I watched it but in Rocky IV there was no captions when Drago and manager where talking back and forth in the ring. Was wondering if yours was like that?

  • @ItchyGoomie Thanks! Yes, the very first Rocky boxset that came out was missing the captions on Rocky IV when Russian was being spoken. I have the second boxset that came out. This set has the Rocky IV with no problems.

  • @ItchyGoomie I can answer that!, I had both the Aussie and the American DVD of Rocky IV. I noticed the same thing on the American DVD. When you watch the 'full-screen' side of the disc it says at the start the the movie 'this has been modified' etc. Well thats whats modified, Dragos russian subtitles. So you need to watch the 'wide screen' side of the disc and youll see them.

  • @eccentricness81 Thanks for the info.. I was even trying to cut on the closed captions to see if that worked. The one thing about it is I had seen that movie so many times I knew what they where saying anyways.

  • @ItchyGoomie Hmm, that wasn't the case with my version. Both the fullscreen AND widescreen were missing the subtitles. And I think the "this has been modified" was specifically just for cropping the movie to fullscreen. The second US boxset release DOES have the subtitles put back in for sure though.

  • @rockybalboa101 Thanks Dan.. I didn't mean to make this question the main subject on this video. I have the blu-ray boxset and like you said the picture is amazing even with the dust. I bought the VHS boxset..the dvd boxset..the blu-ray boxset.. and will buy whatever else they come out with in the future. I'm guessing 3D Rocky is next. Damn technology. I guess Drago was right. "I must break you"

  • @ItchyGoomie No problem here. I have the vhs, dvd, and blu-ray as well. Ugh, 3D Rocky better not happen, lol!

  • @eccentricness81 Hmm, that wasn't the case with my version Gino. Both the fullscreen AND widescreen were missing the subtitles. And I think the "this has been modified" was specifically just for cropping the movie to fullscreen.

  • @rockybalboa101 yes of course that wasnt the only thing modified. i actually had 2 USA copies and both had the subtitles for Dragos Russian on the wide screen side. hmm thats strange that yours didnt. Your bluray version should be fine yeah?

  • @eccentricness81 Yeah Gino, the blu-ray version is fine. As well as my dvd copy which is from the 2nd US boxset released. I no longer own the Rocky IV from the first boxset in question. I just remember trying out both sides of the disc for the subtitles and they weren't there. Maybe I had a double screwup, lol! I'm curious though. Do you have the movie still? What exactly does the disc say was modified?

  • That sucks that the 2-5 movies have dust still. Those people were probably lazy . Thats dissapointing. Considering Rocky 4 was my FAVORITE of the series. Hey dan I also have a ?, If you have a PS3 that of course has a Blu Ray player, do u absolutley NEED to have an HD TV?

  • @boygeorgebaby84 I actually have a PS3 Marta, and I use it for mainly playing blu-rays. You don't NEED an HDTV to use the PS3 or any blu-ray player, BUT, you will NOT see the quality. The movie will just look like a dvd. I had a PS3 4 months before I got an HDTV. It works perfectly fine without an HDTV. But when I got the HDTV, HOLY COW!!! lol. ;)

  • @rockybalboa101 Ohhh lol so okay, if i buy a Blu Ray DVD and play it on my PS3 WITHOUT An HDTV, The quality will remain the same?

  • @boygeorgebaby84 Yes Marta, you are right. The quality won't be bad, but the blu-ray will look just like a regular dvd. Say, how come we've never exchanged our psn id's? I will send you mine in a message. :)

  • Yo dan !!!!!! Awesome review brother !!!! I also have this collection !!!! The movies all cleaned up pretty well i thought !! The cover is really sweet !!!

  • @MattsMovieReview Thanks Matt. I don't know, I could see these dust spots show up every-so-often. It was a little distracting, but the picture QUALITY was spot on. :)
