  • The Bangles version is just a carbon copy of this one. A very well-executed carbon copy, but still... This is the definitive version, and the later Katrina & the Waves version where they raised the key was kind of pointless.

  • years ago '79-85' I herd a song by Katrina, I did not know it was her. The voice, the timing and raspy delivery was so Joplinesque I was stunned. I wish the reception had been cleaner. The name of the song was not mentioned. Every blue moon I search but only disapointment i'm left with. Tell me some one knows of this recording

  • It's Katrina singing

  • @sockerconny2008 There's much confusion over "Liverpool" because Rew "did" sing on an early version. I have the Shock Horror LP (when they were just called The Waves) and just played it back. It sounds just like this version. It's a known fact he sang lead on most of the songs on the LP, including "Liverpool", while Katrina sang only two, "Atomic Rock 'n' Roll" and "Saturday Week". Once it became apparent what a powerhouse singer she was the band made her lead.

  • @sockerconny2008 Sounds nothing like Katrina singing.

  • @edgeofz I stand to be corrected:) I've got an early vinyl with Katrina singing it and took for granted that this was the same version and did'nt listen so well. So there obviously there are two versions of the song......

  • Wow, I stumbled across this while looking for a different video of "Going Down to Liverpool" (about 5 mins 20 secs long, one of those "on the turntable" videos, it sounded different to this version). I really enjoyed "Plastic Man" though. I think I'll check out some of your other work Motownmaniax, thanks.

If anyone knows of the whereabouts of the "other" version, I'd welcome finding out where it is on youtube, assuming it's still uploaded...

  • I like the surface noise..thank you! :)

  • There must be a couple of different versions by Katrina of 'Going Down to Liverpool'. There was a another version on youTube but it's gone. Either way, their best song.

  • @kolbpilot I believe the biggest difference with this version of Liverpool is Kimberley Rew is singing lead, not Katrina Leskanich.

  • @motownmaniax Never knew that either. So, in effect, there are three versions.

  • @kolbpilot Yes, the person who uploaded the version I mentioned earlier had their account deleted for copyright infringment. From doing a lil googling, the band re-recorded the song for their 1985 album "Katrina and the Waves" (so says wiki).
