Two of the members are still gigging around New Orleans: Orange Kellin and Lionel Ferbos who will turn 99 years young this year and gigs every Saturday Night a the Palm Court in the French Quarter. Some times he'll do two gigs in a day playing trumpet, singing and leading the band!
I am the great great granddaughter of Mr. Henry 'Booker T' Glass; the bass drummer in this video. He was the only original member from the Olympia Brass Band during the late 1800's, to join Harold Dejan's Olympia Brass Band, founded in 1958. He was born 8/10/1888, (died 6/19/1981). He played bass drum with both Dejan's Olympia Brass Band and Eureka Brass Band.
I recently purchased the Sing On! video that you narrated. Great job! I was acquainted with your grandfather and great uncle back in the 60's (as well as Kid Sheik, Danny Barker, Harold Dejan, many others).
How wonderful to see this. As a teenager I saw all of these musicians perform live (With the exception of Booker T Glass). THANK you for posting this.
It's from a time when the musicans had fun AND still respected the music - and dressed for it. No longer the norm in New Orleans I'm afraid.
Of all these folks only Orange Kellin anmd Lionel Ferbos (in his 90s!) are still with us.
Left to right I see Percy Humphrey - tpt & leader DeDePierce - tpt (seated) Lionel Ferbos - tpt Cap'n John Handy - alto sax Orjan (Orange) Kellin Cie Frazier - snare drum Booker T. Glass - bass drum Jim Robinson - trombone Billie Pierce - piano Paul Crawford = Trombone Alan Jaffe - helicon (tuba) and Willie Humphrey ( a great clarinetist) - who made a wonderful grand Marshall
your good at playing your instruments! My Grandad just showed me your video!

The concert was actually a tribute to Louis Armstrong, who only sang, illness prevented him from playing his trumpet.
It's Crawford on tromb. Thanks for this!

Please note it is definitely Paul Crawford and NOT Lucien Barbarin on trombone. Though Lucien is a great cat and fine player.
