  • Hey Bruce, where is the anger over the handling of the oil spill.

The current White House resident makes Jimmy Carter look like a genius.

  • Preach, Bruce! Preach!

  • While I wasn't a big fan fan of George Bush, it's way too convenienient to blame the this awful trajedy on him. Would it have been any different with Al Gore or John Kerry at the helm? I'm not so sure. That being said, I still find myself watching this video over and over agian. I love this song. A great song and great commentary, even if you're not sure if you agree. Very similar to 41 shots...

  • great song, great message, but the sound mix is awful. Too bad

  • president bystander...hey that's every last one of them since Roosevelt.we've been sold out..or souled out if you prefer...game over..game over..game over..."Said I'm with ya..then he took a little walk..." think about that for a minute..Uncle Sammie loves you..bullshit..another number to work into the ground til old then to shoot out behind the Chemical Shed.Sad Things,Sad days..sad end to a great story.Pray for Us ALL if you're one of those who still pray.

  • ry cooder doesnt have the feeling and anger that bruce has,or write 3 verses!!!

  • I love the Sessions Band. I've just been watching the Live in Dublin DVD, this song is awesome.

  • Ry cooder do it better...D:D you know

  • STFU

  • Bruce Springsteen--Spoken like a true Liberal.

  • mackela - he says president bystander. hes saying how bush is just chillin as all this shit was happening

  • bush should be blamed is the saying not "The buck stops here"

  • What are the last two words he said before he started the song? Does anyone know. It was something to the effect of President bystand or whatever that means.

  • He said the song was dedicated to "president bystander" (George W. Bush. who failed to help the people of New Orleans).

  • ...dedicated to a president bystander....

  • i watched all the other bruce springsteen performances of this song . not to mention loads of others an in all honesty .. his voice never sounded as strained as it does here ever .. well maybe on seven angels on TRACKS lol .. to listen to i like the other performances alot better ... but in terms of passion .. this performance is great an the passion shows strongly an urgency in the message an his voice ..if id heard it on radio would think he having a bad voice day .but seeing it makes it great

  • the verses bruce added are fantastic and bring this song into the present.

  • Great Song

  • i was there when he played this it was amazing

  • Excellent version and time appropriate.

  • I just have 3 things to say to the ignorant FGGTS right below :

    - Cooder did NOT write this song, Bruce says in his speech that it is Blind Alfred Reed who wrote it (in 1929) so if you are unable to hear that, how can you be able to judge this song ?

    - The US has not got the highest living standars in the world. The highest is Norway. The US 6th. And be sure that even in the US, some people do not live decently.

    - Springsteen is nothing but the Boss, he rocks and that's a fact.

  • ...that's a fact!!!

  • If ry cooder wrote this song, this is a disgrace to his version. If not, look up cooder's.

  • Bruce is a genius. He's so talented and so compassionate.

  • Highest standard of living in the world? No, not even close. But nice try.

  • babinm: Try reading a book.

  • I kinda prefer this to the live recorded one in dublin, this one sounds diffrent in a good way less of a concert hall sound! Thanks for posting this!!

  • Bruce should play this song with the E Street Band on the 2008 tour, and also Long Time Coming.

  • bruce is a legand tickets should be alot of money lol

  • Fucking awesome. Dubyah is a scum bag.

  • to all of you that are complaining about the price in the tickets to bruce's conserts: in Great Britain a ticket to a premier league football game costs over 125 pounds, per person, THAT'S EXPENSIVE!

  • thats to get into a wanky London club!

  • 125 pounds to watch a match in the EPL your having a laugh 25 quid to watch Man Utd

  • this is not a publicity stunt, don't be stupid

  • thanks

  • So what's your little point, neocon? That rock stars are millionaires? That rock star millionaires sometimes have trouble when they buy things? "Apparently," "allegedly" -- do you know the story from Bruce's side?

  • Apparently Springsteen and his wife agreed to buy a pizza at Fat City Ron's for $16.85. Fat City Ron said that their daughter also got a Pepsi.(Bruce paid respects to the men's room before departing)

  • Give 'em hell BloodNGutts!! :)

  • What A Man!

  • How can anyone not hear the truth in this song? unless, you are paid by the Federal Government to refocus the blame. Way to go Bruce!!! I am with you, and I live in Canada. Thanks for posting this great video!!

  • Judgement is coming Mr. Bush, and that's a fact. Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Ashcroft, Roberts and some of the other former or current members of the Ruling Facist Regime will be sentenced harshly. It will take this country decades to recoup from the actions of these selfish, malicious miscreants. "Them who ain't got left to drown" happened all over this land, not just New Orleans. When the poor and middle class get it and when the wealthy regain "conscienceness" is the start of recovery.

  • "when the wealthy regain 'conscienceness'"

I believe you mean 'conscientiousness,' and also 'gain.'

They don't care about anybody and they never will. It's either wealth or morals; if you have both, it won't take you long to lose one of them.

  • this man earns good money his tickets are expensive but get over it bruce could rebuild america himself thts wat he has done

  • No one forces anyone to buy a freaking t-shirt; at the end of the day, it is the concert itself, and the costs aren't out of line...and his donations and work for those not at the top of the food chain is pretty unique

  • To those who judge Springsteen simply by the cost of his ticket prices -- take a look around, pal. "Working class families" drive $40,000 SUVs and watch plasma TVs. You may not believe it, but quality comes at a price. And I have yet to see a Springsteen show that was disappointing.

It's not 1978, and you can't see Bruce at the Capitol Theatre in Passaic, NJ for $10. Get over it.

  • As a longtime resident of Asbury Park, I know EXACTLY what Bruce Springsteen has done for "working class families" and the schools, playgrounds, business districts, local museums, food banks and just about every other organization a "working class family" might come in contact with. Unlike just about every other rock star on the planet, Springsteen does this without press releases or TV crews. He just lives an honest life and supports his local community.

  • IG, I'm a Jersey Boy too. All the good things that Bruce has done with his time and money are hardly secrets. Don't waste your time throwing those pearls before idealogical swine. Facts don't sink in to their puddin' heads.

  • lol, would you rather hear a young kid rap about how much more money he has than you, or someone sing for his audience?

  • netslob u need to quit bitchin, and listen with your ears to this badass song, smoke a bowl, chill out. no one cares if Bruce Springsteen loves money, cuz we all love money.

  • NETSLOB- = dumbass. 40$ T-shirts for the kiddies.? At what concert in the history of mankind sells toddler's shirts for 40 bucks? aahahaha uhh probably never in the history of all concerts...and- it wouldn't cost 340$ to go to this concert for 2 adults and 2 children. Slob u r full a bullshit, shut your mouth.

  • Monday is Coming, So sad to see the weekend Go away.

I have a new song coming soon, Hopefully it will be done by Tomorrow.

The Title will be called "I'll Do Anything"

My songs are Produced by Marty Rifkin

at Rifkin Studios in Santa Monica.

  • Springsteen cares about working class families? Okay, how much would it cost for a family of four to attend one of his concerts. $340 for tickets...plus, let's include a couple of $40 t-shirts for the kiddies. We're at $420 -- and we haven't even had any food or drink yet! All for 2 hours of entertainment.

Again, one must wonder: "How Can a Poor Man Stand Such Ticket Prices?" Springsteen cares about making a LOT of money, first and foremost.

  • So,NetSlob,I assume you were in N.O. during Katrina and Rita and the contiuing aftermath? It makes no difference to me how much money Springsteen makes, at least he shows he cares. How much did you contribute to help rebuild a devestated community?

  • net slob...hes speaking or singing for the people...not so much from his personal status.

  • Springsteen charges at LEAST $85 per concert ticket. He should be singing, "How Can a Poor Man Stand Such Ticket Prices?"

There's nothing like hearing a pampered, whining multimillionaire bitch and moan about being poor.

  • HE's for the people dumb shit, he's one of the greatest rock icons of the century!!

  • First of all, Slob, Bruce could easily get away with charging three times his concert ticket prices (like the Rolling Stones), but he won't. Second, your argument that he can't stand up against poverty and government incompetence because he's rich is paltry and idiotic. His charity and donation work for those without is second to none. Get a clue before you open your fat piehole.

  • He played this show for free. He made a six figure donation to N.O. relief, zero publicity. He quitely supports many many causes with free concerts and cash, especially around his hometown. He organized the Vote For Change shows in 2004 in which about 20 bands, included his own, played for free to defeat Bush/Cheney. His ticket prices are 1/3 of other musicicans of his stature and popularity. Does he have to give all his money away and live in poverty to sing about it?

  • i thought ry cooder was the original....

certainly the only heart felt song and not this piss.

  • Listen to the video. He announces the song was written in 1929, before Cooder was born. Bruce wrote the last three verses. It's easy to label anything "piss." It's harder to explain this view. Do you have the ability to explain yours or is it a knee-jerk reaction to something else, ot what? Seriusly, please elaborate, if you can.

  • great song great show mr or miss sublime your funny im not being sarcastic im being honest its a compliment i seen you on another page somewhere on here you funny dude ..later on yall take it slow no.lol..take em as they come thats better peace out

  • Sounds like his voice always has :)... rough but full of character. Great song.

  • this is so sick...i keep hearing from people..."he sucks now, he has a bad voice" when in this concert hes relating this earlier written song to N.O. tragedy...all you gotta do is listen. This right here is the shit.

  • crap

  • The Del Lords usedta do this better...

...okay maybe not better but different and just as good... they ROCKED it.

  • he took a look around gave a little pep talk, said i'm with you, then he took a little walk, now that's the truth.

  • Sat in this chair and watched it live on MSN. The emotion was palpable, piercing. Wanted to jump through the screen and be there. The Boss has a knack for speaking the mind of the people, doesn't he? He nailed it. We can't forget New Orleans.

  • legend! Pity about the audio mix though.

  • Every time I think about Katrina and the king of vacations on holiday while his own people drown, my blood boils just a little. I can't believe this happened in the richest country in the world.

  • Way to stay relevant, Bruce!!!

  • I liked the original version better, but I was Born in the USA. Right G?

  • saw in manchester earlier this year, this song just blew my head off.

  • Awesome song and video, funny how he broke a guitar string.

  • i love this song..but still my favourite is HAPPY

  • His voice is like gravel here at times - similar to Tom Waits.Superb, very moving.

  • What else can be said, except... phenomenal!
