  • The thing with goth is that there is _NO_ real definition. if you consider yourself goth, good for you, and that makes you goth.

  • This video is both great and extremely concerning. I really don't know what to think of the people coming up with these totally nonsensical "facts." I am a white Australian too, but seriously had to laugh at almost every one of the statements. I can't comprehend how people can even question the validity of some of those statements, let alone treat them as fact. Do we really live in a world where people no longer think for themselves? I know the West is becoming more and more like that; is Japan?

  • THAT KID IS SO CUTE. 9:39

  • We've actually been accused of eating "dolphin" here in the USA too. Out of ignorance people confuse eating of the dolphin fish or mahi mahi with the bottle-nose dolphin porpoise. Misinformed angry people make a lot of unnecessary noise all over the world.

  • @Quikdrawmagraw I know I make sure my fish products say dolphin friendly.. especially american product.

  • Funny, the most fun part of this whole video was you talking to those children :P

Oh I wish I could speak Japanese so I would know what you were saying to them. WTB subtitles! :P

    Love your videos :)

  • @vanoosterhoutje

my Japanese is far from good, but as far as i got it he greeted them, told them he was making a video for foreigners about interesting things in Japan (or for foreigners who are interested in Japan), then told the boy his vehicle was cool (first he called it "bike" then "car") and asked them where their mother is.

when the kids come up with the vehicles he screamed "scary" in a high pitched voice and after a while he asked them if English was funny/interesting.

  • I think you should make more videos on myths about Japan. I thinks it's important to let people know what's really true and what isn't.

  • leave our sausage alone stupid foreignerjew

  • I get the feeling people hear things about other countries, and perhaps because they do not know a lot about Japan or other countries in general, so they get confused about what country matches which fact, especially when there is some comonality between the two countries, such as they are both in Asia

  • I couldn't concentrate with the cute little kids in the frame!

  • kawaii twins!

  • Comment removed

  • Actually it is China that belching is considered not rude.

  • I remember this video with the kids on their tricycle :D

  • Is it true that although Japanese people are rater xenophobic they actually like like Portuguese culture? Because the Japanese ambassador here in Portugal stated that Japanese schools mention Portugal quite a few times in history and fado ( traditional Portuguese music) is very well appreciated there .

  • another myth(?) is that japanese language is so difficult that even japanese themselves arent good at it.

  • Law against being fat???ROTFLMAOOO!!!! one word: SUMO!!!

  • you're good with kids man, i can tolerate an adult being an ass until hes midway through a swing to my jaw, but i cant seem to understand the kiddies, i wouldv'e been just like you at the start but when they started making loud noise, BAYUM out would come the jandal

  • I'd bet a large sum of money that Americans know less about their own history than the Japanese do, Japanese people may even know more American history than a lot of Americans do.

  • @nachtatix 100 percent man, completely correct, and hell im korean (japs and us apparently hate each other :S) and im telling you, when i was in japan, everyday people could list off who the first couple of presidents were and shit like that.

  • those kids are very kawaii

  • Are you Australian? if so what state or territory are you from? :)

  • that kid was cute XD

  • GERMAN SAUSAGE! THUMBS UP!

  • needs a sign behind him saying "dont walk on rocks, might leave grass stains." XD

  • I disagree with your take that the japanese know of Nanking and WW2. That's not true. It's obliterated from the their social studies text. I know this as I taught in their schools.

  • Can you make more videos for this playlist? Thank you for your time and I love your videos.

  • Sadly my friend, most myths about other people are born out of pure ignorance and then spiced with the usual prejudicism.

It is always interesting to hear you handle this or other topics in the open minded and nondramatic way you do. You are a great ambassador for introducing all of us into this world that you live in.

My own perception of Japanese people is that the are more advanced and skilled socially than the most of us westerners/ whities are. I like them. Warm and considering people.

  • that girl picked up a stones watch yourself mate :D 10:46

  • Well for the goth example thats less about them thinking they know better than Japanese and more about their failure to realize goth style can be different by country. The term goth came from the west so they probably view Japanese goth like some kind of warped form that has drifted from what goth actually should be. (Though if thats how they view it they should realize goth today in say Britain is not the same as it was even a few decades ago.)

  • Every comment or every comment up until a certain point? I mean you have hundreds if not thousands of videos....I dont see how that could be possible unless you spend like 5 hours a day on it....

  • @R3D54ND

I choose my words carefully.. and say what I mean.

  • @TheJapanChannelDcom o.o; time to go comment on some obscure 5 year old video.

  • 1000 messages a day must take ages? Do you feel like you NEED to or do you do it because you want to and want to find the "good" ones?

  • How can anyone possibly be so arrogant to think that they know more about Japan than it's own native residents?! That is quite absurd for me to even consider thinking

  • I giggled with those kids because I know what your saying :D

  • Thank you SO much for this. Some of these are just simply ridiculous. One thing that bothers me is people who think people in Japan act like anime characters or that Japan is like an anime. Can you/have you made a video about this? Because some people are just so ridiculous with their fantasies. >,< Anime is pretty unrealistic, that's why Japanese people like it. It's be pretty funny if the Japanese watched the Simpsons and thought all Americans acted like that. xD

  • @JourneyInJapan what the hell are you talking about?!

I mean obviously japan is populated by transforming magical school girls, aliens, tentacle monsters, and creepy middle aged men. They just don't show up the news because of ninjas.

  • @undeadsos5 At first I though you were ignorant, then I had myself a good laugh. xD Cuz I totally know what you mean. I met a lot of ninjas when I was there, so it makes sense. :P

  • One rumor i read on a video that was uploaded and filmed in japan was just so ridiculous and dare i even say stupid. I am not Japanese nor have i ever been to japan, but the up-loader stated in the video and description that they were in japan, and the comment a person posted said "There isn't internet in japan" and i replied "Then how do you think he uploaded the video from japan"

  • I liked the kids the most. :D

  • That's unfortunate, since this is one of my favorite channels to post stupid comments on.

  • Those kids are just chilling in front of the camera

  • I'm curious as to how hard is it to make a living in Japan as a musician compared to how difficult it is in the West.I'm assuming more difficult because the populations are more dense, but thought I'd ask.

  • Can you make a video describing the Japanese version of ''cuteness''. I have seen this being referenced many times in Japanese society and it seems to have a broader meaning compared to what I am used to.In many other countries , we use the word ''cute'' only for babies, very young girls and dogs-puppies/kittens.

  • @Zyleiss

We have a whole playlist of it..

  • @TheJapanChannelDcom huge playlist. Thanks for taking time out to make this.

  • @Zyleiss only?. Really?. where are you from?.

  • @Zyleiss That's a rather generalized statement you got there...

  • Yeah you're awesome, you've wrote me a comment op my channel and asked for friendship :)

  • at about @10:10 what did you say to the kids about english?

  • @ydoiwatchthese "hey, is this english funny?" -"yeah"

  • @Arnofkd haha that's what i though. at least the kids were honest XD

  • What is the legal age for driving in Japan

and what's the legal age for drinking in japan

  • @MsILOVEmilk use google ffs

  • @MsILOVEmilk i think he has some vids on the subject somewhere.

  • I love the random kid at the middle of the vid ^^

  • While there are no laws about going to the beach in Japan from date x to date z, there is a cultural phenomenon that dictates when it is *socially acceptable* to go to the beach. Being a gaijin, it's easy to not care and go when you get the whole place to yourself. But people will still find you odd for doing so, in my opinion. Fortunately for me, I'm married to a J-girl who doesn't care about such things, and we've visited the Nihonkai in January to poke around, even.

  • sooo, whos kids are those?

  • That kid was so cute.

  • video starts at 3:25.

  • I love how the kids didn't know you, but they hanged around you! This shows how likable you are even to strangers :D

And those myths don't make sense, I don't know where people come up with this stuff!

  • I really appreciate you making these videos. Im going to Japan this year so its nice to know about these types of things.

  • Thank you for your insightful video.I really appreciate it.Keep up the very good work. The twins are adorable, beautiful, and precious!Absolutely awesome video and live audience.

  • Lol your first live audience with TheJapanChannel

  • I think I heard Godzilla at 6:38

  • Where are the kids' parents? That's not very safe.

  • @JumbaJohn It's a very safe society.

  • @JumbaJohn i used to play outside like that when i was a little kid in japan. everyone does. its so safe you probably cannot comprehend.

  • @artsho I guess it's just hard to imagine because I live in the USA(enough said).

  • @JumbaJohn i do too and i can (nuff said)

  • @artsho what state? im jealous

  • Love your videos mate. Japanese don't waste food at home, but they do when going to izakaya (which happens about 4 times a week). Used to work in one and they order much more food than they will generally eat (same with beer pitchers).

  • @Fedende You think that Japanese families go to izakaya four days a week? lolololololol.

  • @Tzadeck not a family, but salarymen do on a daily basis

  • @Fedende Yes, salarymen do go to izakaya fairly often, but how often depends largely on the company and the people themselves. You implied that 'Japanese' go to izakaya 'four times a week', a claim that I think you will agree is absurd when reconsidered. Salarymen are a substantial part of the population, but not anywhere near 50% (women, children, retired). And even for salarymen, 4 times a week is a lot. Saying that 'Japanese go to izakaya 4 times a week' is just not true.

  • @Tzadeck My statement is not less true than saying "Japanese don't waste food" which is also a generalization. In a country with an unemployment rate of 5%, if you only account the people in the 15-60 years range, where most of that ppl works in big companies, and go to nomikai, party, uchiage, etc, etc, etc, 1-4 times a week (easily) you will easily see that I am not exaggerating.

  • @Tzadeck And I am not trying to say that "Japanese waste more food than other countries" I just tried to say that it is untrue to affirm that they do not waste.

  • @Tzadeck And I see you like SC2.... right on mate!

  • So if you go to North Korea and someone tells you Kim Jong Il was the greatest leader in the world...I guess they must be correct because they live there! What could someone on the outside possibly know.

And to suggest that external news sources have an even comparable influence to the Japanese media on public opinion and public perception is being incredibly obtuse.

Do you think the Japanese media shows a diverse range of views on controversial subjects? Comment on that if you are honest

  • @squiggly101 He talks about that at around 7:40

  • @squiggly101 A native WILL know more about their own culture compared to a foreigner.

What you are suggesting is like going into a Japanese sushi restaurant and claiming they aren't making real sushi.

  • Myths start at 3:33

  • @11jdaly

    Thanks :D

  • i see it this way.. there's racism and horrible people in very country, i dont judge a country by its people or history.. <3 Japan! and those kids were brilliant made me laugh! definatly a +1

  • Comment removed

  • Those kids are adorable. It's hard to believe that there can be discrimination and racism in a world where it's so easy to see that people are basically the same everywhere, especially all the cute children!

  • lol the kids trollin ya

    XD <3

  • Interesting Video, thanks ^o^

an yes .. we germans eat SAUSAGE all day long .. usualy with KRAUT XD

Someone got to make a "Internet Myths About Germany" - Video *lol*

  • Just though i would take the time to say i really enjoy all your videos and all the hard work you put in to them, it's really nice to see someone who is genuinely enthusiastic about another culture and has an open mind about it.

  • Thank you for posting these videos. I'll stay in Japan for 6-7 months starting from this Februrary and I was quite nervous before watching your videos. Ok, I'm not Polyanna or whatsoever... I don't expect flawless time in there but these videos help me to feel more prepared. Now I'm much more in a "here I come" mood :D

Seriously, thank you so much oldie!!

  • belching and farting while eating polite? LMFAO

  • those cute kids video-bombed your whole episode! hahaha!

  • RT for the win! I couldn't agree more!

  • That's interesting that some people believe that Japanese media is controlled by the government. The Japanese government was specifically banned from doing such a thing in order to meet the conditions proposed by general Douglas MacArthur after WWII. Great vid.

  • Can you do an interview on filesharing sites?

  • i think a lot of people confuse japan for china, by the things they asked.

  • @HASHlRAMA A lot of people don't bother to learn the difference. My mom didn't even realize Japan was an island until I pointed it out to her on a map.

  • i like the little children

  • I've had to correct many of my fellow Americans about misinformation that they receive or think about Japan. Many Americans confuse Japan with China. So they think Japan is over populated, and super high tech with hungry people. I personally have never been to Japan, but I've taken two Japanese language classes and one Japanese Culture class, and most stereotyping that other cultures have about Japan is based loosely on media. I hope to go there within a year to find out the facts.

  • You should have title this vid "Attack of the cute little scene stealers"

  • This cideo would have amused me if I weren't aware that there are actually people who believe these things. Many Westerners don't know how to differentiate between Asian countries and cultures, which I suspect is why some of these myths clearly confuse Japan with China (which IS a Communist country whose media IS controlled by the state). Sad... though when the kids showed up I couldn't help smiling. You were a good sport for humoring them, lol.

  • Seems like some people are mixing Japan up with China or something, but never mind that. You can't seriously be reading all the comments you get? That's just mental! O_O Says i, like i expect a response... But still >_O

  • @Namaechan

Yes, I read all the comments.

  • @TheJapanChannelDcom I'm impressed.

  • @TheJapanChannelDcom O.O" WOW!!!! And those little kids were probably thinking, "Why is that man speaking gibberish to a camera?" But in Japanese of course.

  • @Namaechan speed reading...

  • Living in Japan, do you hear stereotypes on foreigners? Every country seems to have stereotypes on other races, nationalities, and etc. Do you hear any about foreigners from certain places? Or, do Japanese citizens, typically, not stereotype? I think that could make an interesting video.

  • The leaving food on plate thing is from Victorian times. To show that humans were civilized you would leave some food on your plate to throw away, because only animals eat everything they catch in one sitting, also, we are far to advanced to worry about such petty things as food. Or at least that's how the Victorians thought of it. About media,, look up "freedom of the press" yearly report. Also look up metabo law about being overweight.

  • The kids were trying to run him down

  • Hahaha, "Tell me to go away" very nice way of putting it.

  • @ 3:30 THE BLOODY POINT

  • damn this guy reallyyyyy loves japan. He talks so highly about it.

  • @heats1

Speaking highly and speaking the truth are different things. Of course he loves it. That's probably why he calls it home. But he doesn't speak "highly" of it because he loves it and is ignorant to any fact. He just speaks the truth about it from what he sees as a foreigner looking in.

  • actually japan waste alot of food.

  • @heats1 Man, stop talking rubbish if you don't even know what you are talking about. The issue is not 'this guy reallyyyy loves Japan', the problem is,... you are too brainwashed. Where are you from little brainwashed guy? :)

  • @heats1 Sorry for the 'little' brainwashed guy. Please forgive the 'little'. Have a good day, peace.

  • @DtorBillAgain aww you're so cute acting tough and then saying sorry.

  • hi

  • I really like how you're so open minded. YOU'RE VIDEOS ROCK!!!!

  • Goverment controls the media in Japan? That's China isn't it

  • I had to stop watching it is reticules what some ignorant people will believe. Of course Japanese will know more about their homeland than foreigners!!!( ̄▽ ̄)

  • Fashion is the last thing I care about, but it's the foreigners who were wrong (shocker). Goth Lolita is a whole different thing than the (western) Goth.

Well, in a way they were right, it's not THE Goth they were referring to, but they were just arrogant or something.

    It's kind of like this:

I'm holding an apple and I say: "This is an apple". You say: "that's not an orange". You are right, it's no orange, but it's still an apple.

    Stupid enough xD?

  • I've heard Japanese people dont learn about pearl harbor?

  • Comment removed

  • @matcpn

Are you serious right now? Or just trolling? Of course the Japanese know about Pearl Harbor. Jesus Christ. It is an event forever etched into their history.

  • Your so lucky to be in Japan, It seems really nice there, the culture, the scenery, EVERYTHING !!!

  • That is so true, that foreigns know more about Japan then Japanese do, because I found a friend that is Japanese and she rarely knows about Japanese bands and anime, manga and you see me naming so many japanese bands, artists and anime, manga + video games lol.

  • Have you done a video on the economic system in Japan? I'm really curious about how it is similar and different from other western countries.

  • i agree, so many people have ignorant things to say about japan, they always go by what they read or saw but never ask a real japanese person, im in japan and half the things ive heard is 100% not true.

  • Question, I have seen and read comments on youtube about racism in Japan. I know that youtube is not a great source of info, but my question is this. Is Japan racist against foreigners? I have seen many videos of groups of Japanese individuals expressing a racist attitude toward foreigners. I know that these videos do not represent the nation as a whole and do not believe that all Japanese people are racist. Just curious on what you have to say, and sorry if you already responded to this.

  • @roxas006

A video is coming about that.

  • @TheJapanChannelDcom cool thanks

  • @roxas006 Why is it that Americans living in the United States get so bothered with the potentiality of racism existing in other countries? Racism can be found in any country. As Christ said, do not be so concerned with the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye when you have an entire plank in your own eye.

  • @stevethefishdotnet true, true.

  • I got one..I think it's a myth but not sure..On alot of Japanese Anime you see a sign when the person is using a restroom at school or some public place 15CM toilet paper limit..I think that is just a myth..I couldn't see ANY country imposing a toilet paper usage limit XD.

  • All the Japanese people I know did not know about UNIT 731 which was a covert biological and chemical warfare research and development unit of the Imperial Japanese Army that undertook lethal human experimentation during the Second Sino-Japanese War (1937–1945) and World War II. Look it up on the internet. It's well known to other people just not Japanese.

  • Your video interrupted by cutest kids. You got to love it. All your videos are very enjoyable. Keep up great work.

  • Maybe this doesn't need to be said...but those kids are adorable!

  • correction: i meant OR a communist democracy. obviously you cant be in a capitalist dictatorship and communist democracy at the same time xD

the point is: capitalism and communism are economic systems, democracy, dictatorship, anarchy, etc are social/government systems. completely different things

  • Just to put this out there, wheather a place is communist or socialist or capitalist has nothing to do with whether its a democracy or a dictatorship. the opposite of communism is capitalism, the opposite of democracy is dictatorship. a nation can be a capitalist dictatorship or fascist which is an extreme corporatist state -which is what the US is turning into, and a communist democracy. in reality, if a "communist" state is ruled by a dictatorship it isnt actual communism.

  • Honest, True, Respectful!! You Sir are my new Hero! If you are reading this... I want to tell you thank you for the hard work you put in these videos day and night! I hope everything is going great in Japan for you and if I could with Luck I would really like to meet you somday!

    Thanks Again! :)

  • @CenturysSamurai

    Thank you.

Yes, I read all the comments.

  • @TheJapanChannelDcom haha, Now I believe you xD

Keep up the good work mate! Oh and did you ever made video about teens/Adults in Japan?

  • i love ur channel! u should make some videos about their mythology n folklore...urban legends n whatnot...like for example kuchisake-onna n the tongue cut sparrow! ur awesome n thanks to u i kno how it is to live in japan without moving there =D keep up the good work

  • Ha, great video! I have encountered a few of those questions/statements too. I think one problem is that some western people think that all of east Asia is the same. On the dolphin topic, I actually had a girl really angry with me arguing about that. So she doesn't like Japan or Japanese people because of that which just strikes me as really ignorant and frankly closed minded which sums up some people's attitudes toward Japan and Asia in general. Obviously this isn't most people. Love your vids

  • @singsing4753 Have fun in communist China. c: Also have fun in warzone Korea.

Oh well, that's your opinion, but you should know there's plenty of upsides to argue against your downsides.

  • Thumbs up if you understood what he and the children were saying in Japanese... :3

  • I really like your videos. c:

& the kids are cute -.-

  • Is it true that packs of unattended children roam Japan? :)

  • This has nothing to do with the subject, but nice job framing your shot. Very cinematic.

  • I have a good one, I liked how you mentioned Japan did not force foreigners to dye their hair. I read a blog months ago on Japanese fashion of a foreign girl with blonde hair living in Japan, she blogged alot of stores and clothing in Japan. In one of her posts she said a man was passing out cute napkins/ flyers and offered one to her but then pulled away and wouldn't give it to her after he looked at her hair/eyes. Do some Japanese act different like that to foreigners that look TOO different?

  • @singsing4753

U do realize that 3 of the 4 reasons you said that Japan sucks are due to natural disasters, something that Japan has absolutely no control over genius. But here's something FACT: The U.S. has a crappy health care system. But the health care system in Japan, as a whole, is FARRRRR better than the one of the US.

Cant say Japan sucks if you're dead or maimed XP

That alone is enough to make Japan awesome.

  • Was that little boy your son? He is so kawaii! Sorry if this seems like a stupid question, but this is my first time watching any of your videos XP

  • "If I came to Germany and told German people that their German sausage wasn't real German sausage, you'd tell me to... [fuck off] ... go away, wouldn't you?"

    Nice save : )

  • The government in Japan does control the media, of course they do.

    Just like in the states.

No, I'm not being ignorant, I was actually born in Japan.

I really enjoy your videos, but whether you blow my comment off about this as untrue or not, it is indeed very true.

The government in Japan, like most countries, control what is being put into the media, as the media influences the way everybody thinks and acts, for example: fashion.

  • oh my gods, look at the comment below, why so many anti japanese people come into japanese videos and say bad things about japan? what the hell is their problem?

  • is it ture that japan is sinking?

  • And this is why I'm subscribed to you :'D. Actually in my geography class, my whole class was talking about that Dolphin topic. And they were saying basically everything you covered about what foreigners think. I honestly didn't believe them, I didn't think that the Japanese would actually be like that... but then again, what did I know? But now you covered that. Keep up the awesome vids! I totally understood what you said to those cute twins~ x'3

  • People who think the Japanese government control the media clearly haven't been to Japan and seen Japanese media IRL

Also I love that those kids keep videobombing you. People are the same the world over xD

  • access to the same information as us? well then they dont know shit.

  • @ZachBMil

    Yes.

    Covered on the environment playlist.

  • Claiming that Japan is comunist country made me thinking for a second if it is really true. :D Omg, people are very likely to make up a lot of nonsense bullshit. Even though you receive a lot of comments, mine you have answered almost all. I like you care about the feedback of your subscribers! Greeting from Czech Republic!!!

  • i this this is really cool, its good to have some clear up on the myths. plus the kids are adorable ^^
