To give you an example, Grand Master Ortega had me on white belt for three years, but when finally he decided to promote me, according to his guidance, instead of promoting me to yellow, he promoted me to orange. Interesting... I was just curious because the kids have not changed much physically since the videos were recorded. I have heard a lot about kajukenbo but I've been told that training lacks sparring techniques and most of the techniques rely on one person standing still (uke) while the other (tori) kicks the crap out of him. The uke is suppossed to take the beating because that will make him stronger... No thanks!
I was browsing a video from Sifu Serrano dated April '08 and now I see this video dated August '08 and noticed that his son advanced at least 2 belts (from blue to brown III) in 4 months. What is the philosophy for advancing in rank in this style? I thought it took years to advance from one belt to the next in Kajukenbo (especially so for advance belts)

Well to explain to you so that you have an understanding, even though these videos are posted at the dates that you see, it does not mean that they were recorded on that particular date. My sons have been practicing since they were toddlers, so trust me, I have not been given them their belts, they have earned them. I hope this answer your question. Peace.
