  • contour does not have "disposable" casings like the gopro. the gopro has a wider/larger capture than the contour. the contour does not stabilize the image as well as the gopro in my experiences. gopro is definitely the winner for me.

  • is that an pontiac fiero ? :)

  • Is anyone else having problems viewing this in 1080P? It feels like 0.5fps.

  • i mean seriously the gopro is the first in of it's kind. Personally i like it better because of that. Don't be hating on other cameras, just keep it to yourselves. *What other helmet camera has its own commercials?*

  • i think the countour"s quality is better but the sound does suck but for what i am using it for music will be added so i dont care about sound

  • the contour sounds like a steaming tea pot haha

  • the gopro has a retarded form factor. its like having a side-wise brick strapped to your head - this video is completely over-compressed and full of artifacts.

  • are they both in the same housing? i'm really looking to get one for on a dirt bike helmet and maybe some under water stuff. which would you suggest?

  • @Monsterenergy8771 get the gopro definatly if u get the contour you probly wouldnt be able to even hear your bike. and the gopro is an all around better camera

  • @Monsterenergy8771 Go pro. It comes with a waterproof case right out of the box. It's more durable for dirtbiking if you ever crash and hit it hard. For dirtbiking and underwater, Go Pro is the best choice.

  • @awesomeness1367 Although you can get the ContourHD for $150 dollars cheaper than the GoPro on Amazon.

  • contour needs a 170deg lens

  • His GoPro 1080P doesn't look as clear as when I record in 1080P with my GoPro...

  • Is that in pennsylvania?

  • wow that Contour sound totally sucks...I think all the cameras need the option to add an external mic for decent sound...

  • countour sounds like shit, slighter crisp image, however the go pro has better color

  • since we dont know what the settings were with both cameras, I cant compare, only that the contour looked more clear...

  • I can't stand the fisheye effect on the GoPro cameras.

  • The GoPro is better because it's fish-eye, larger field of view, better sound, better mounts, waaay better sound quality. The only thing the contour has better is the colors which is barely notable.

  • The gopro gives you much more field of view and also much smoother images, i would go for the gopro hehe

  • the sound of Go pro is poor, we can not even record a voice properly or other sounds of everyday life... many people complain about crackling sounds . Most videos go pro without music which are cleans, were recorded with external microphones.

  • @yolovema I'm pretty shore GoPro is one word.

  • this video made me buy the gopro hd. and i´m very happy this way =)

  • As stated the ContourHD has better detail but it has the jelly effect which is bad if you plan to take videos at higher speed or just fast change in direction.

  • Contour seems to have better detail, Gopro has nice color though.

However, I can't edit in image clarity in post, whereas I can do something about saturation. Contour for me i think.

  • go pro wins with the wind reduction

  • You guys must be blind. The GoPro wins hands down for picture quality and sound. The Contour's picture resolution doesn't hold up to the GoPro HD.

  • Comment removed

  • Every other video of the Contour the sound is not like this.

  • Contour easily has the better quality and, as stated below they have an interactive website where users are able to share files and an easy to use forums page.

  • the Contour Pic "Jumps" a bit more then the GoPro, watch the Tree's and the Building if he drives a bit slower

  • the Contour Pic "Jumps" a bit, watch the Tree's if he drives a bit slower

  • Had both, hero wins easy better picture and sound, contour has skew and more shake than the gopro hd.

Also the laser red dots on the contour are useless as tits on a bull!! And the rear battery flap keeps opening when you try and stop recording. Not to mention its comes with the water proof housing. No contest.

  • See Contour hasnt improved on the dire sound quality.

Contour wins hands down on picture quality, better resolution and better unmuted colour arbitration though.

Thanks for the compare, wont go for either, Tachyon XC 2010 or lash out on HD POV PRO 1080.

  • ummm right gopro for the win

  • Yes, Loved contour HD Pic quality...

  • There's a side-be-side mountain bike race of these two cameras. In that video I'd say the Hero has much better colors. And I thought the Hero's sound was poor when you used the waterproof casing, which you must use to mount it on anything. In this video I'd say the Hero's audio is fine.

  • They are both quality POV's. GoPro has better mounts, Contour has better color & sharpness. Both have top-notch customer service. Contour's website allows users to post their vids and share info between users in a you tube like fashion and compete in filming contests to win accessories & other prizes. This sets Contour HD apart from GoPro.

  • Contour has a slightly better picture. Look at the separation between the double yellow lines in the road. The detail goes a bit further with the Contour. GoPro wins overall though. Wider view and better sound. Color looks a little better too.

  • Gopro is better

  • contourHD works just awsome and you put music under your vids

  • the colours on the contourHD are greyish and sound is awful

  • GoPro! ftw

  • nice job..

  • Look at the yellow street signs "no shoulder" and the left arrow, you can see/read both much earlier with Contour. I was almost set on the GoPro until I realized this.

Regarding sound, most of the time you add music to your action video anyway

  • @YurVanGor

Only if your car or bike sounds like crap

  • well sound is better with go pro. u can hear the car..

  • Open same video in two windows. Play one till the ContourHD segment starts. Get them in sync and then pause with the same scene displayed... Like at 0:32 (HeroHD) and 1:14 (ContourHD). To me, the ContourHD shows more detail with less lost to noise or compression. Plus I like the ContourHD color better.

  • were was the recorded.

  • Good comparison. Only problem with Contour's setting changes is you have to do it thru a computer so on the road changes aren't going to help. Also think GoProHD has more mounting options and better sound.

  • @seadog1967 I purchased a contour HD a while ago, and used it to record whilst I was riding a bicycle. It wasnt bad, however, I had jerky video, the sound didnt work properly most of the time, ie NO SOUND, and then the thing fell off my helmet, even though I put it on the purchased vented helmet mount. After it hit the ground it no longer worked, Keep in mind I was only riding a road bike, and along smooth road.

Since the contour HD1080p has the same mounts I would not trust it.

  • @KrunchyJD

I purchased the GoProHD and the latch broke, the costumer service with GoPro was excellent. They quickly sent me two new latches. Just on the costumer service side, I would recommend GoPro.

  • I still haven't purchased a POV camera yet but have narrowed it down to the GoPro and the ContourHD. Both have good points but I'm leaning toward the Contour because of design. Just seems more user-friendly and streamline.

  • This isn't a good evaluation of the Contour's capabilities. Go to the vholdr website and look at the videos that dozens of users have downloaded. You may be pleasantly surprised at the ContourHD 1080p's capabilities.

  • With the Go Pro the colors seem more crisp and vibrant, but with the Contour everything looks a bit more grayish and dull. Still good quality, but Go Pro blows it away!

  • UMH GO pro has more real colors if you look at the car and sound is beter

but the prices are the same in Holland €300 Thats 422,16 dollar

  • @Machini18 I don't know about that. It looks like the GoPro has a green filter on or something.

  • oke thanks for the response

  • My problem is that I keep reading that Gopro's mp4 format is not compatable with a lot of editing softwares esp. premier pro CS3 & CS4. How hard is it to convert if this is the case? Awsome comparison. 5 stars. How come you don't respond? Your the person with the answers ;#(

  • GoPro all the way, video and audio is much better (I evaluated both and went with the GoPro HD).

  • gopro wins i see no difference in quality but the gopros sound is remarkable and the contour is horride

  • @2fstmotox

If you don't see any difference in the video quality you need some glasses friend:)

  • If a picture is worth 1,ooo words, good sound perhaps adds another 5,oo or so more words to the total???

  • Both have excellent pics..hues are quite different. Gopro has a wide angle which ads depth of field(I prefer). I appreciate your vid. I checked these cams out and chose the Gopro hd 1080p. It is awesome and the better sound and wider visual field helped me choose. will be here Dec 17th. And on my street luge(etc.) soon thereafter! Both cameras are very nice...I just thought the GP had more to ffer for the price.

  • I think the go pro has a very neutral picture but the Contour is more detailed

  • GoPro seems to be better in visual and audio quality

  • It seems, GoPro HD Hero has wider view

  • is the vholdr sound quality realy THAT bad??

  • Sound sensivity is adjustable by software

  • actuallly they just changed that, 1080p now avail...

  • the quality is amazing =OOO

  • is this footage 1080?

  • Not on Youtube

  • @eddymunn

Yes it is 1080p now on youtube:-)

  • yes if your computer has 1080p
