Would be ideal for ruining my neighbours vegetable patch. If they are getting rare it might be worth an investment before they get expensive and/or blown to bits care of NATO. T55s are antiques, a symbol of the Cold War and AH64 video games :-)
I hope you are still selling these things when I start earning some money. I worked with some friends on a T-72 for a week and it was so awesome I just have to get one.
wouldnt it be easy to just put it on a ship at gdansk and ship it to the states? no need to ship it through germany or any other country. once found, only hard thing is the paperwork to be done.
I mean that not long ago I saw that the Polish army shelves few T 55. These were new tanks, straight from the store, never used and fully functional. Of course, were not armed. They are specially companies that have licenses to sell former military equipment.
As of 2009 Most if not all the T55s & T55AM2s have been cut up, All that are left are some recovery varients. If you can find me new unused T55s were available Ill buy 5 from you tommorow!(seriously) Yes I know all the licenced dealers in Poland, CZ, Hungary & Slovakia. Thanks
@stug3ausfg Are you really serious that you would potentionally buy more than one tank? And what are your requirements then.. Cos I know there are for sale in the Czech rep. T55's and also T72's.. I dont get it.. Tell me what you are actually after and I can ask around.. even in Russia or Ukraine.. Have few contacts.. (I will ask for commision for me, but dont worry, I am not a greedy guy) :)
1) The main gun will never fire. The breechblock is wrecked by welding it shut before it is imported. Furthermore, even if you managed to get permission somehow to import one with a functional gun, I know in the US at least each 120mm round is considered an explosive device that you have to get a SEPARATE federal permit for.
2) The tank will never be road legal. It's about 1.5 lanes wide and the treads destroy pavement. If you want a vehicle you can make road legal, buy a Ferret scout car.
@Bullzeye95 You can get rubber tracks, I've seen a Ti67 Turan with rubber track pads. But I don't know about US law, I know in England tanks are road legal provided they have rubber track pads
You mean that someone actually imports russian tanks to the U.K. for selling them off just like cars? Man! That's awesome! I want to buy one! Don't worry for the money - I'll sell my own house and start living in a tank - that's a dream coming true! When I wiil get pissed off for living inside it I will just start blowing up my neighbour's houses to calm down the nerves! Do they sell ammunition too or got to buy it apart? Have they got T-80/T-90's too?
system KLADIVO (hammer) is czech modernization of T-55, includes balistic computer, field laser rangefinder, temperature sensors of barel, air, atc, wind speed meter, barometer pressure meter atc. . Firing system KLADIVO was best firing system during that time , beter then rusiia systems.
@Glassybubbles1231234 It's awesome but it seems a bit hypocritical. You can do a lot more damage with a tank then a rifle. They should lift the weapons bans in the UK but we know that will never happen. Once they are gone they are gone.
@swedishvolvo no owning a .22 rifle is easy, owning a rifle is easy as long as you don't have a criminal record and you don't use them to be a complete prat. I own 2 and a shotgun. But yeah you can own tanks and if they have rubber track pads then they are road legal so you can drive them like a car and cause huge traffic jams in your local area. Funny old country England!
all you need is the correct permits, tracks, and the demilled guns. but you also cannot drive it on public roads, aka hwys or freeways but on back and surface roads are very possible. also you will have garunateed no tailgaters! lol
I think it's still legal to buy an Abrams, just not the M1A2. And of course the guns have to be disabled. I was actually given an Abrams (I'm not sure if it was legal). The reason why i didn't take it was i had to get it out of there myself. And seeing as how it was in Southern California, and i live in Northern Oregon. I couldn't get a truck to bring it up. It was donated by mistake to a RR museum, And they didn't want to care for it/restore it (had enough on their plate as is).
how much does one cost? and i wonder... if you placed rubber shoes on the tracks and were able to somehow make it fit in a single lane... would it be street legal then??
if you need to ask, then you can't afford it lol. And if you're in the US. it depends on the state. Every state that i know of however, wont allow tracked vehicles on the road, rubber shoed or not. Not to mention most roads have a weight limit, a tank would simply crush it. Best bet for a road legal "tank" would be to buy a rubber wheeled APC. their both lighter, and steer and drive like a normal car. Not nearly as cool though if you ask me :-)
Wasn't trying to be an asshole. I simply stated that it's out of the price range of 99% of the people out there, so the popular saying goes "if you need to ask, you can't afford it". Maybe you should try to understand what people are talking about BEFORE calling them an asshole!

the popular saying goes "if you need to ask, you can't afford it. It's a VERY popular saying, and has been around for ever. Most people can understand what it means right off the bat, but since you obviously can't, here let me simplify it. It means if you don't have allot of money, you can't afford expensive things! If you can't understand that, then you're hopeless.
no maybe you need to know what you're talking about before you start letting your keyboard warrior mentality take over, just because someone asks how much it costs it dosent mean shit for all you know he could be a millionaire that is asking a logical question like most people do when they are buying something you stupid fucking HICK!
Dude it's FUCKING PHRASE MEANING IT COST ALLOT!!!!!! It has nothing to do with how much the person has, it is NOT an insult! God why is everyone getting all fucking butt hurt over it. Seriously, People need to learn to take a fucking joke. This is over you stupid fucking brit wannabe.
In a nutshell, no, for a lot of reasons. Biggest one being that it's far too wide for any traffic lane. It doesn't help that the stock tracks on the T-55 have offroad spikes which unfortunately destroy asphalt and concrete.
These are legal in UK? I don't think you can own a tank in US. Won't matter to me, because I'm going into the Military after school, as an Abrams crewman.
Whats the cost and availability of T55 or T72?
