IF, and only IF there is to be another Tsar, could he be an elected one? I mean: the tsarievich is nowadays a German, Georgij, son of a half-Bagratuni and half Holstein-Gottorp-Romanov mother and a Hohenzollern-of-Prussia father! Is this still the imperial line?

@Rotebuehl1 First they need to resolve the succession issue among the Romanovs. The other alternative is to call the Zemski Sobor or an assembly of the land to crown the next tsar if that can't be resolved. That's how the Romanovs became tsar. That's how the tsar was selected traditionally. A monarchy would have to be a constitutional monarchy. There is a question about whether the Bagrationi are a ruling house or not since Georgia became part of russia when it was conquered.

As far as I know, there are even some rurikid princely lines, like the Dolgoroukis, who seem to descend directly from the 7th grandson of Igor I, Юрий Долгорукий of Rostov, son of Владимир Мономах of Kiev!

Suggestion for the Bagratuni: in Germany former royal Houses were still considered ruling houses! How 'bout that?

@Rotebuehl1 The reason why romanovs became tsar was that all the rurikid princes at the time refused the offer when they were offered the crown. As to the restoration of the monarchy I don't think that is possible given that hardly anybody wants to have a monarchy in russia. The Hohenzollerns are still considered ruling house. They do have a branch that had ruled Romania as well. Check out the Almanach de Gotha for directory of Royal Houses.

@redwhitedude Well, I also have the impression that in Russia noone really wants the monarchy! As people say: "we don't want it BACK". As if one could "go back"! It would be a new monarchy anyway and one can only move forward in time! Again, the monarchy is not an end in itself! The monarchy would serve Russia! It would exist for the best of Russia! As nearly nobody believes that the entire issue is mere virtuality and mental acrobatics. Pity!

@trentoboy260 Communist made a mess out of Russia. They collapse because they wasted too much on their bloated military. They created a very inefficient economy and killed out a potentially productive members of society the so called Kulaks. If it weren't for WWI the bolsheviks would not have been able to take power. Russia economically was a fast riser but most of the people still had a difficult existance just like a poor country embarking on a path of economic development.

A very moving and poignant video. I cry whenever I see the Grand Duchesses and Tsarevich. The family deserved a kinder fate. It is a very beautiful anthem Russia should have adopted this instead of reworded old Soviet anthem. I am happy that the Church canonised the family and many Russians today regret what their ancestors said about Imperial Family. Once again, a wonderful and touching anthem. You are really out-of-date! Tsarevna Tat'yana Nikolaevna and Tsarevich Aleksei Nikolaevich were laid to rest last year! The Patriarch and Metropolitan of the Russian Orthodox Church have granted sainthood and martyrdom to the Imperial Family. Lenin was removed from hid tomb years ago and laid to rest in a private cemetary next to his mother and brother. Lenin's tomb was demolished in 1998.

Imperial Romanov eagles have replaced all the red stars on Kremlin towers and are on all gov't buildings

Beautiful pictures and singing. What finer tribute to a wonderful family? It wasn't so long ago. I'm still furious. Also, it is high time that the last two of the Romanov children, Alexei and Tatianna, are laid to rest in the family tomb in St Petersburg. To me, the Russian authorities and church hierachy continue to insult the Romanovs with this cruel delay. Are they still so scared of a little boy? All the while, the mass murderer, Lenin, lays grotesquly preserved in a place of honour. Shame!

@dangar45 This is very interesting! You realise that the Imperial Family rarely stayed in the Zymnii Dvorets in Peterburg. They chose to live in more secure and secluded Aleksadrovskii Dvorets in Tsarskoe Selo. However, they did at times on certain occasions stay at Zymnii Dvorets (Winter Palace).
