In my humble beginnings searching for the truth, right from a small kid, before anybody told me anything, I just knew by instinct or conscience or God or whatever, that there must be a law to the way to God, and my thought was on the Ten Commandments as the law, so I can say from personal humble innocent beginnings that there is a lot of truth what Ray sais about the Ten Commandments as the mirror of God's Righteous Standard.

I had the opposite experience growing up, I was raised in a catholic household, and as long as I could remember (by instinct or conscience as you say) I knew that there couldn't be a God. But I didn't take speculation as fact, I went to school, learned about evolution in university, and learned the truth through facts... not guessing through feeling.

I dislike how Comfort asks people questions on the street such as "Where does the conscience come from?" and when they can't answer it, it's supposed to completely invalidate the atheistic viewpoint on regards to the question. Just because some random person on the side of the road can't answer your questions, doesn't mean there isn't an answer that doesn't involve God.

The conscience is closely tied with morals and a sense of right and wrong, simply speaking it is a behavioral tool with which we are able to determine good and bad behavior. Morals can be developed from an evolutionary point of view due to the fact that we are social animals...

Within groups of social animals, behavior that benefits others is a desirable thing, as this in turn benefits the individual. From this we can see how taking something from another member of the group or harming another member would be a bad thing. The conscience is a function of the brain which allows us to recognize these things.

our conscience is our determining knowledge of what is right and wrong. the evolutionary social relative morality which you describe does not make sense because it could be used to justify almost anything. what if we, as a society decided to kill off all the very sick and contagious people among us because we deemed it a "behavior that benefits others". Would that make it right. of course not.

If that's the way society thought, then from that point of view, it would be right. Look at slavery, we now know that it is wrong, but for hundreds, if not thousands, of years, it was seen as socially acceptable.

All I have to say to that is hindsight is 20/20. We know slavery is wrong, now, yet if we had have been born a hundred years ago, we may have thought it was right because that was the prevalent way of thinking at the time.

We only see rape as wrong because we view ourselves as 'enlightened' creatures. Animals rape each other all the time, and we don't think it is wrong for them. I'm not advocating rape, because personally I think it is something we should have moved past in our evolution, however if you say it's wrong because of God, you must explain why atheists also view rape as wrong. If you didn't believe in God, would you be a rapist? I hope not.

every person is "enlightened" because every person has a conscience given to them by God. an atheist knows that rape is wrong because he too has a conscience given by God. just because an atheist does not believe in God does not mean he is exempt from God's law of right and wrong

A lion tears another animal to pieces and doesn't feel bad about it, it's just survival. The conscience is only a human element, not animal. Evolutionists have categorized humans as animals, and that's why they have problems with the conscience.

This is a hot topic or heated debate as you know. Christians/Creationists have always held that humans are not mere animals, but instead are above them (though they sure can act like animals at times). This will probably never be resolved as there are passionate people on both sides. You have your beliefs, I have mine. The important thing will be who will be right when he dies? What is life all about? What will happen to us when we die? That's something science can and never will answer.

Where does conscience come from? The purpose of conscience is to prevent people doing something that is bad for the community, so it good for the species. It's a feature we have got by evolution. Some other animals have concsience too, so it's nothing supernatural.
Asking "Where does the concsience come from" is like asking "where do the horns of a goat come from".

I agree with all you say Ray. In my humble beginnings searching for the truth, right from a small kid, before anybody told me anything, I just knew by instinct or conscience or God or whatever, that there must be a law to the way to God, and my thought was on the Ten Commandments as the law, so I can say from personal humble innocent beginnings that there is a lot of truth what Ray sais about the Ten Commandments as the mirror of God's Righteous Standard.

I see your point j7keith but how does that make it truth? I had the opposite experience growing up, I was raised in a catholic household, and as long as I could remember (by instinct or conscience as you say) I knew that there couldn't be a God. But I didn't take speculation as fact, I went to school, learned about evolution in university, and learned the truth through facts... not guessing through feeling.

My point is: as I was a kid at the time, I think I happened to be looking into finding the truth, without the knowledge of someone actually saying to me, 'the ten commandments' is the law etc etc', I just happened to just think 'that it may be a the way to find God', and remember, when your a kid, looking for truth, its really sincere and innocent etc. Because years of corruption that comes to you through years of being in the world.

If you really look at the facts, creation/evolution have the same amount going for/against them. I'm a Christian, and i believe that creationism doesn't have all the answers, but nor does evolution, both have their problems, but I'm on the creation side.
