November 14, 1980 (Friday) Atlanta, GA Omni Coliseum [P] (Paul Jones (01) Promoter / Georgia Championship Wrestling) > Steve Olsonoski over Tom Stanton > Ray Candy over the Assassin (01) by disqualification > Steve Keirn & Terry Taylor over Charlie Fulton & Roger Mason > Mr. Saito over Jerry Oates > Ted DiBiase over Killer Khan > Jim Brunzell over Dennis Condrey > Georgia Heavyweight Title Match: Tony Atlas* over Ole Anderson >
National Heavyweight Title Match: Jack Brisco* over Terry Gordy > Georgia Tag Team Title Match: the Freebirds (01) (Michael Hayes & Buddy Roberts)* versus Kevin Sullivan & Austin Idol ended in a no contest / Notes: Condrey substituted for Terry Funk in the match against Brunzell. Gordy was in the Freebirds corner during the match against Sullivan and Idol. Hayes and Roberts were in Gordys corner during the match against Brisco
Ray Candy was a good dude who doesn't get the respect he deserves. He is largely forgotten except for his run in the Zambui but Ray was a great babyface.
Ole was a big mouth bluffer as far as how tough he was. Fuck Lanny Poffo told him to grab his best hold after he run his mouth and Ole didn't do shit. He sent Gene after Lanny to try to sucker Lanny and Lanny stretched Gene and Ole still didn't do shit. I love Ole to death. He is a grouchy old fuck and a colorful old dude but he was all talk.
Ole Anderson'c career was so such greater that tony atlas, ray candy, and thunderbolt patterson combined.Ole was also known as a legitimate tough guy in the locker room.
as for ole havign a great career most people remember him for the 4 horsemen and the kicker is that everyone stills says the line up with barry windham was the best, as for ole being a legit tough guy, you got lanny poffo saying he stretched ole, and in eric bischoff's book he told a story in the 90s how blackjack mulligan ko'ed ole with one punch just because mulligan didnt like how ole would talk shit bout bischoff, just cause a guy yells on tv doesnt make him a tough bastard
I just saw a interview with Tony on WWE 24/7 and he said in his words "Ole would call you a N***** in a heartbeat" Teddy Long confirmed it and talked about how Ole didnt like black people to touch him. Always knew Ole was scum and Ray's comments were more shoot than people knew at the time.
Now he's living karma as a disgruntled. grumpy old fool.
@songoku350 I don't know if Ole said this for the sake of the story or what but if you check out the you tube video where Ole turns on Thunderbolt Patterson and then he an Arn double-team Patterson, he did tell Arn to "get that n***** up here".
Ray Candy would become Kareem Muhammed with Leroy Brown (Elijah Akeem Ambalika) and become The Zambuie Express. Candy later teamed with Grizzly Boone in WCW as The Commando's. Whatever happened to Grizzly? If anyone knows, please post.
There is a clip of that up on YouTube already but I just found a stash of Georgia tapes in my basement (forgot I had them). I'll see if there's a better copy of it around. I also just posted the follow up to that angle where they replayed the famous Mid South angle blinding JYD.
Ernie had bad knees and underwent various knee surgeries . He went into acting for a little while. He had been writing a book about his life and career, (the ups and downs). I don't know if he had placed it with a publisher or not.
Sad irony of this posting, with Holmes' passing today. One of the original "Steel Curtain," Godspeed Enrie. How long was his wrestling career? I know it wasn't long. Didn't Otis Sistrunk wrestle for a few weeks, too. I remember Solie and someone lamenting that they just didn't have what it took to wrestle.
Sistrunk teamed with Michael Hayes against Terry Gordy and Jimmy Snuka. Hayes and Sistrunk beat Gordy and Snuka for the National Tag Team Titles. Sistrunk, however, quit after a few weeks, and the titles were vacated. A tag team tournament for the titles followed.
He was cool. Ernie Ladd used to say bad things about him but I really enjoyed watching him wrestle.

I like Thunderbolt Patterson he a good wrestler but Ole Anderson is a cranky wrestler and he was a jerk back in Georgia Championship Wrestling.
