But when they interogated them it was revealed that nuclear weapons had not been a priority for hitler who was focused on being a complete phsycopath. The American grab was mostly to slow the russians from getting ahead, but they had spies in the Manhattan project anyway. The rest is history.

Iran will not stop its nuclear program, it's going to do through with it then they will be a huge threat to mainly Israel but also the whole world, if Iran doesn't stop the production of these weapons war will happen and it will probably involve most of the world. The first Bomb was dropped in order to show them what we could do. The 2nd was dropped to show them that we had more than one. We only had 2. The Japanese diddn't surrender after the first bomb. They were still going to fight. It wasn't until it was demonstrated to them that we had more than one and made them think we could drop more at will before they surrendered. We diddnt even know they would work actually, but the war needed to be brought to a speedy conclusion without invading Japan.

I'm a liberal, and to this day I stand by our decision to drop Little Boy and Fat Man. We eliminated the US casualties that would have been incurred by an invasion, and lessened the Japanese civilian casualties when one considers EVERY civilian would have been used as a soldier in Japan to repel an American invasion.
Slayerking, you might want to take in to account the times in which the bomb was used. War with Japan was dragging on and on and invading the Home Islands was going to be the only way to end it. Look at Iwo Jima, Tarawa, and Guadalcanal and every other Island they defended to the last man. How do you think it was going to go when they were defending the emperor? Dropping the bomb saved many more lives, 2 cities nuked, instead of hundreds and hundreds of thousands more deaths from invading.

Nuclear winter was debunked quite a while ago. And even if the small chance that it did occur IT would only occur if the explosions were ground bursted. I have a marine manual on nuclear vs conventional weapons that say so! Radiation and dust kick up is negligable if it is air bursted(which gives maximum damage). The bombs would have to be purposly detonated when they hit the ground which would reduce the damage radius.
Not according to a study published in the Journal of Geophysical Research last year. Cities hit by nuclear weapons burn, which produces smoke and soot, which produces nuclear winter.

Truman didn't want to have to explain later to the American people that he had a weapon that could have ended the war and save american lives but decided not to use it. He would have been assasinated or worse.

The first Bomb was dropped in order to show them what we could do. The 2nd was dropped to show them that we had more than one. We only had 2. The Japanese diddn't surrender after the first bomb. They were still going to fight. It wasn't until it was demonstrated to them that we had more than one and made them think we could drop more at will before they surrendered. We diddnt even know they would work actually, but the war needed to be brought to a speedy conclusion without invading Japan.

My grandfather would have been in the invasion fleet to invade Japan. He would have probably died. Thank god U.S. nuked Japan to surrender or millions more would have died from the invasion. Only retarded liberals would disagree.

I'm a liberal, and to this day I stand by our decision to drop Little Boy and Fat Man. We eliminated the US casualties that would have been incurred by an invasion, and lessened the Japanese civilian casualties when one considers EVERY civilian would have been used as a soldier in Japan to repel an American invasion.

Slayerking, you might want to take in to account the times in which the bomb was used. War with Japan was dragging on and on and invading the Home Islands was going to be the only way to end it. Look at Iwo Jima, Tarawa, and Guadalcanal and every other Island they defended to the last man. How do you think it was going to go when they were defending the emperor? Dropping the bomb saved many more lives, 2 cities nuked, instead of hundreds and hundreds of thousands more deaths from invading.

You got that fact from COD5, didn't you? Admit it. :) Fact is Imperial Japan had territorial ambitions long before the oil embargo. Look at Korea and China. The oil embargo only made rush through their plan for a "Co-Prosperity Sphere" in the east Pacific.

Not necessarily, thats an assumption. Why would they surrender if we did that? Consider that they diddn't surrender after the first was dropped on a city now. (we only had two, and they had to bring the war to an end.) Thats a big gamble, and not one you would be inclined to make, if you were 5 years into a world war that wasn't close to finished.

If there was a large scale exchange of nuclear missles (or nuclear war) were to happen it would wipe out the population. The latest estimates say that if every country who had some fired all of their nuclear weapons, they could kill 8 billion people. The bad thing is that there are only a little over 6 billion people currently living on this earth.

Nuclear winter. So much dust and soot would be kicked up into the atmosphere that the sun would be blotted out and global temperatures would drop by ~7C i.e. a new ice age. Growing crops would become impossible over much of the earth and the majority of the worlds population would starve.
If the nuclear winter is bad enough it could even create another snowball earth.

Nuclear winter was debunked quite a while ago. And even if the small chance that it did occur IT would only occur if the explosions were ground bursted. I have a marine manual on nuclear vs conventional weapons that say so! Radiation and dust kick up is negligable if it is air bursted(which gives maximum damage). The bombs would have to be purposly detonated when they hit the ground which would reduce the damage radius.
