TKD can be divided by two styles: WTF and ITF. WTF stands for What The Fxxx for Olympic games and children. ITF stands for Incredible Tkd Fight for real.
i am a second degree in tkd and i sparr wtf and itf and over all they are both great fighting styles but i just love wtf better for sport becuz it is alot more fun...no hands just feet it is alot of fun....itf is better for street another great style but it is alot harder when you sparr. you gotta worry about fists and feet not just feet...but hey i love tkd and sparr both ways either way they are both hell of a fun way to sparr
eto bil tkd vs tkd a ne kickboxer, esli eto realno bil kickboxer to on ne doljen bil podstraivotsa pod tkd a doljen bil delati vse kak evo uchili po kickboxing tehnike
I feel Sorry for the Kickboxer. At least he tried. D: . In a way, taekwondo and kickboxing goes hand in hand. Taekwondo is mainly like all kicks. In Kickboxing, it combines Taekwondo kicking techniques combined with boxing techniques
@billysue2 weaker hand what are you talking about? we use our hand just as much as our legs and Kickboxing was dirived from taekwondo,but what i was saying was train in both ITF and WTF taekwondo and its amazing combinding the 2 but no the punchs are not weaker taekwondo strikes are designed to use torque wich make them harder and faster hits
@dedlock itf tkd uses hands but badly because the coaches have no boxing background,I did itf for 17 yrs and fought in many countries,eastern europe has typically the best hands for tkd.Kickboxing uses karate and tkd kicking,it uses boxing hands obviously.Every style in the world uses torque to punch,you cant punch without it.Tkd discourages hand work,have a look at itf pro,its full contact,the hands are even bad in that and those guys are the best the style has to offer and the toughest lads.
@billysue2 dude...TKD (ITF of course the traditional) comes from a mixed betwen karate, tae kyon and another one that I dont remember now...so we do how to punch and box...the thing is that per many years the way of combat of TKD was almost pure kicks and only straight punches cuz of the tournaments rules,...so...many fighters train only for tournaments
@uncabro youre missing the point entirely,just because there are hundreds of hand techs in tkd and there are,does not mean they are useable.Karate is also useles with the hands,if a style doesnt do full contact sparring with head punches it will have useless handwork.The only tkd lads with decent hands are ones who crosstrain in full contact styles,stephen tapilatu was 1 of those,zelg galesic another and mark weir another.The other style youre thinking of was the 8 kwans trained in korea.
@billysue2 very good point...but is up to the instructor to teach techniques and use whether be in full combat, the streets or tournaments.....Bruce Lee once said: "if you want to defeat a martial artist who has train 15 years....train box and wrestling for a year...and he will be yours" so you have a good point bro, but not because we punch in a way in tournaments we are going to punch the same in others combats
@uncabro what youll find is that the way you spar is the way you fight under pressure,een in self defense.If traditional punching was going to come out in self defense,why doesnt it show itself under the pressure of sparring full contact.Self defense shouldnt be sparring,it should be a 1 sided asswhupping initiated by surprise on the attacker,if he defends or attacks you first it will become more give and take and very risky.
i do wtf and ITF and i fight with my hands down and ill tell u what if u want to be really good you will train in both wtf hep u learn to read peoples movments alot more and i have done both for alot of years one is not better then the other but when u put both together unstopable in striking,
@dedlock wtf tend to be better,faster kickers but the style is a joke,it isn fighting.ITF is much more effective,its kickboxing really but boxing isnt really taught properly.The coaching in wtf is better due to olympic status the rules are an embarrassment.
@tapeduck21 ITF is the International Tae Kwon Do Federation. For a long while, it and the WTF (World Tae Kwon Do Federation) were the only two, however there is now the ITF, WTF, ICTF (International Chang'Hon TKD Federation), and the GTF (Global TKD Federation). To my knowledge, ITF, GTF, and ICTF all originated from what was the ITF largely over political conflicts.
@minase0906 a Muay Thai match, probably. Different sports, different rules. In a full contact ITF match, or in Kickboxing rules, absolutely not. Thai boxers lose the elbows and knees, so ITF and Muay Thai are left with basically the same tools and allowed targets.
full contact karate but called kickboxing to upgrade themselves in the 80s,as they lost so many.all the world [so call] champions full contact karate.ask chuck norris,the jets.all long pants Korean stylists. look in old blackbelts mags for more info. thay took tang soo do .i dont know much about itf.same thing??? need info.
I love to see that real TKD is still real and not all the schools only teach the dumb sport... I went to a ATA Taekwondo school before, and its hard to remember not to punch them in the face cause they always have their hands hanging down lol
I"m a 1st degree Black Belt and I loved the Kick to the head. ITF and wtf are 2 different art form and i believe they should both be in the Olympics. ITF sparring you have to play it like a chess match and you have hands and feet to worry about and it's more realistic for the streets if your in a fight and your fighting with you hands down your asking for trouble but in ITF we spar with our hands up ready for anything
Do you mean semi-contact continuous sparring? If so, that's what i always did in my younger days. The reason why i ask is that just saying 'semi-contact' nowadays seems to refer to that stupid stop/start points fighting crap, and not continuous sparring.
that would have been very difficult, if you look closely the first kick was deliberately mid-section so he would bring his arms down to block, although he probably shouldn't have brought two arms down,
WTF and ITF are incomparable. I've trained in both. ITF only allows you to punch to the head and the padding is positioned differently as ITF is predominantly semi-contact. Unless you are willing to make a level playing field there is no way to match the two evenly.
No way! This doesn't have anything to do with the question. ITF is as much oriented as a sport as WTF. Only is a little bit more violent [and pretty xD]

And yes the red glvoes is a kick boxer. Some KB fights go on without kicks being used. Some fights dont lead into that.
Not a very good fight because the Red gloves just got destroyed. But the blue gloves is very good fighter.

@DW01
It was the taekwondo itf fighter who did the kick. You don't learn that in kickboxing.
and look at his hand position, thats how black belts stand.
BTW for you people who don't know, the blue gloved fighter is Taekwondo-ITF and he kicked ass with the pwnage K.O
br3akd4ncing 1 year ago 2
@br3akd4ncing
Yeah you do learn the spinning-back-kick in kickboxing, but then again it is usually not practiced so much in full contact fights.

No semi contact has always meant no strikes with elbows or knees and no strikes below the waist i think. Well to me anyway.
