The fable games were terrible as games. You could get through them with pure repetitious button mashing. There wasn't even an option to play the game in a way that presented any sort of challenge.

After the first hour nothing was challenging at all, and it became one of the most boring games of all time.

Fable was decent, but at its time, it was advertised as an sandbox game with an similar experience to Morrowind, while heavily altering the hero and landscape with your choices.

It is a cartoony introduction into RPGs for the average Gamer, who finds RPGs nerdy and testiclefree, while it was protrayed as the next generation of RPG. It's like advertising a kid's electric car to be the next step towards emissionfree vehicles.

So after playing I went crazy and played tons of other RPGs. By the time Fable 3 came out I had played such great games that it just seemed like a dumbed down RPG for the masses. I actually thought the interface was cool. But I feel like they really let the fans down with the story and "choices".

Personally, I found 2 to be more enjoyable then the original.  I also thought 3 would've been better than 2, but there wasn't any massive twist, so the only real improvement came from having a voice for the playable character.

@stbays 3 was disappointing to me because they missed out on an opportunity to tell us more about the awesome world they originally created. For example, Theresa's character was so interesting to me in 1 and 2 and now she is basically your babysitter. I guess it's hard to like fable 3 when there are so many bad ass rpgs out there that actually implement awesome game mechanics and tell great stories instead of just talk about it in interviews.

The steps are to take The Ransom Victim quest, Talk to the Chief, Go to the Temple of Avo, Hero Save, Donate Enough gold (around 250k), Teleport out abandoning the quest and repeat. Have you tried it and does it work?

So to try and review Fable while IGNORING this is like trying to drive a car while ignoring the steering wheel. It just can't be done. A critic has to review a game based on gameplay, not whether he found it fun.
